What are men’s voices doing on a show for women who want to thrive at work? What they should have been doing a long time ago: taking a stand against toxic masculinity and doing their part to eradicate gender-based violence.
So say the collective voices on our show today.
Gender-based violence has so many facets and one episode is not adequate enough to cover it. But the men on this episode agree about one thing: it’s a men’s issue more than anything else.
In episode 17 of Hungry Woman at Work, Nevelia Moloi speaks to Jaco van Schalkwyk, founder of The Character Company, Beverly Gumede of Lawyers against Abuse, and a few other men who are saying “GBV stops with me”.

What season of life do you currently find yourself in: an exuberant summer, an uncertain autumn or an overwhelming winter? More importantly, how are you responding to the season? There’s been a lot of talk around women and the confidence gap at work. One school of thought says women get overlooked for promotions because “they’re not confident enough”.
But others say that, what shows up as a lack of confidence is really a mix of different reasons. Some of those include a fear of backlash, being taught that others – not yourself – should praise your work, and generational gender norms of how women should present themselves (i.e. sweetly and quietly!)
Host Nevelia Moloi, Mwansa Chokolo, an actuary working in the insurance industry, and Khodani Nematei, a youth development manager chat about women and the confidence gap at work.
