    Episode 29:
Tim explains his medical reasons as to why there hasn't been any new episodes in a lengthy amount of time.

The max cushion movement. A trend that was started by Hoka One One during a time when minimalist footwear was gaining in popularity and trending at the time.

Maximum cushion footwear was embraced by ultra runners for the cushion, minimal weight, stability and shock absorbency. Now, many other brands of footwear are designing shoes to mimic and/or rival those from Hoka.

    Episode 27:
Ultra Marathoner Kelly Hutchins joins the podcast to discuss his recent Western States 100 finish. Western States is one of the, if not the, most iconic 100 mile races in the country. Western States is the oldest 100 mile race in the world.

Kelly discusses how he trained and prepared for the race and the approach that he took to just soak it all in and have a good time. The lottery to get in and 7 years of waiting before being selected are just a few of the topics we break down.

Overall, it was a fun interview with some moments of emotion. Enjoy!

    Episode 25:
Our guest on the show is Adventure & Ultra runner Phillip North. Phillip shares his story of running/power hiking Rim to Rim to Rim - a 48 mile journey through the Grand Canyon on April 13th.

It's really two adventures rolled into one story. The 1st adventure details the planning and coordinating leading up to. Everything from forgetting his running shorts, trying to catch a bus that doesn't start running its route until May, needing to sleep in his car because his time share was 2.5 hours away, and underestimating the weather down inside the canyon.

The 2nd adventure details the actual running of Rim to Rim to Rim with a total time of 16:51 and a total moving time of 12:18. Through the breathtaking views and challenging 11,000 feet of elevation gain, Phillip was able to “Go fast enough to get there, but slow enough to see.”

Before talking about the great aforementioned adventure, we spent some time talking about his first time as a Race Director with the Red Cedar Half Marathon Trail Run at Giant City State Park. Make sure you look for the 2023 version of the event if interested in jumping in on the fun next year!

Kyle explains the details in working with the various communities involved as the Relay rolls through their towns and cities, the number of volunteers it takes to pull off such an endeavour, and what he learned from his first year.

Our guest on the show is Shawn Gossman with Hiking With Shawn. Shawn shares the story of what led him to be involved in cycling and hiking the Shawnee National Forest.

Shawn's passion for cycling and hiking eventually evolved into the popular Hiking With Shawn Youtube channel. Shawn provides guiding, does public speaking and writes several blogs. Shawn has provided many guided tours to the well known "Snake Road" area of the forest.

Shawn provides details of many of his favorite trails, but the reality of it is, there are way too many hiking trails throughout the Shawnee that we simply could not cover them all. Maybe a part 2 coming in the future.

Lindsey and I talk about our experiences running this year's River to River Relay. After missing the last two years, it felt good to be back out on the course. F*** hills!!!!

If you aren't familiar with the event, it is an 80-mile relay, with a team of 8, traveling from the Mississippi River to the Ohio River across southern Illinois.

Andy with Thorogood Boots joined the show to talk about their hiking boot product line. This was actually a segment taken from the Backwoods Bowhunter podcast.

    Episode 20:
Lindsey Roberts breaks down her entire self-supported FKT (Fastest Known Time) attempt (day by day / hour by hour) on the River to River Trail.

She describes the various ups and downs of the journey, the challenges faced when dealing with below freezing temperatures at night, and the excruciating shin splints that she had to overcome to make it to the end of the 159-mile technical trail.

What began with Lindsey tipping her toe in the Ohio River, as customary, ended 71:48:42 later with a dipping of the toe in the Mississippi River.

The new self-supported R2R FKT of 71:48:42 will soon be made official.

    Episode 19:
Our very own Lindsey is embarking on a journey to set the "self supported" FKT (fastest known time) on the River to River Trail in Southern Illinois. It will be the hardest task to date in Lindsey's running journey.

Lindsey already owns the FKT for the "supported" version on the same technical, at times, trail.

Lindsey explains how she plans to navigate the potential weather conditions, what shoes she will be wearing, the gear she is utilizing to maximize success and how she plans to hydrate and get nutrition.

It will be both a physical and mental challenge, but for anyone who knows Lindsey, we know she will be up for the challenge. #PushYourLimits

    Episode 18:
Big race announcement - Wicked Pig Ultra coming on December 10th.

RTS Sports will be hosting this Ultra Event on the Southern Illinois River to River Trail. The River to River Trail is a 160 mile trail that serves the Shawnee National Forest in far southern Illinois. It will be divided into 4 sections over four years. Therefore, if you complete all four sections, you will have completed the entire River to River Trail.

The first year will be approximately a 60K. Don't like the word "approximate?" Welcome to our wicked ways. The trail is both wicked and beautiful…wickedly beautiful?

The race will start when the Race Director's eat their piece of bacon followed by a wicked whisky shooter!

We are only waiting for the official approval documentation to arrive in the mail before we go full launch!

As if that announcement wasn't enough, Tim and Lindsey discuss the Barkley Marathon and the Land Between the Lakes (LBL) 50 Miler.

Love having Morgan Davis on the show. There is always so much running information to uncover, but not enough time to get to it all.

Morgan talks about her experience at the No Business 100 in the Big South Fork Recreation Area. Despite the technical terrain and over 14,500 feet of gain, she finished 5th overall female.

Morgan ran the Cloudland Canyon 50K two months after No Business. The race is held in Georgia and despite navigating 4,500 feet of gain, she accomplished a 8th overall female finish.

Morgan and I went back a few years and talked about her experience at the Barkley Fall Classic at the famed Frozen Head State Park.

Morgan will be tackling the very difficult Pinhoti 100 in November. "Only recommended for very experienced adventurers" is all that needs to be said.

What powers Morgan through these ultra races? My guess is it must be the Fireball!

We also learned that there is a new Race Director for the Southern Illinois River to River Relay. Kylo Orso is taking over for Brad Dillard and Kyle is determined that there will be a relay in 2022!

  • Morgan Davis joins the show to discuss her Leadville 100 experience. Anxiety with Hope Pass, battling the Colorado altitude, a clogged hydration pack, and blisters at mile 5 all presented challenges, but none were going to stop the ultimate goal of completing 100 Leadville miles.

How does one become an Ultra Runner? We get Morgan's take on it.

Morgan discusses her experience at the 2020 Last Boyscout Last Man Standing event as well as her Tunnel Hill 100 race where she ultimately finished 3rd fastest female.

Morgan has a crossfit training regime and does weight training along with juggling in the running miles each week.

Hoka Bondi! Doesn't matter if it is trail, road, or whatever terrain you want to throw at her. The shoe of choice is the Hoka Bondi.

Morgan has created a hydration concoction (although cannot be replicated since there is no true formula) that we have nicknamed as "the Morgan."

Good luck at the upcoming No Business 100 Morgan! We at Lace Up and Run will be rooting for you!
