Happy Halloween everyone! So over here at MRML we're watching a little John Carpenter today, but we thought we'd stay away from the obvious stuff like The Thing and Halloween and see if we can talk you into one of the many other awesome flicks in his catalogue. Crystal wants you to take a look back at 1998's VAMPIRES, while Trevor from Terror in Toronto suggests revisiting 1980's THE FOG.
Who is your vote with? Let us know @MRMLpodcast on twitter! -
Some of our MRML panelists are enjoying some Alfred Hitchcock suspense to get ready for Halloween and they're going to try to talk you into doing the same. Danny has selected 1948's "ROPE", while Devon has selected 1963's The Birds... it's also worth noting that the two have made their picks for very different reasons.

Nic and Brandon take a look at horror's newest box-office darling, "IT". If we've learned anything from the IT(2017), it's that clowns are super creepy, kids swearing is always hilarious, and cocaine is a hell of a drug. There are differences between the book and the movie; are they improvements, or simply creative choices by the team behind the film? Do we care? Can the Muschietti siblings continue their cinematic winning streak into the sequel, "IT: Chapter Two"? Who knows... we sure as hell don't.

Alright, so Paula and Brandon went to see BABY DRIVER on opening weekend. They recorded an episode discussing it. Devon jumped in for a segment. It was a lot of fun. Then they all forgot about recording that episode... THIS... IS... THAT... EPISODE!

While MRML is on hiatus take a listen to an early preview of "Oh No, Kids Movies!", Paula's new podcast for parents and lovers/haters of children's film and television that just can't take the repetitive viewings anymore and need to vent. The show launches mid-September and will be available on iTunes, GooglePlay Music, Soundcloud, Stitcher and every other podcatcher that you can imagine! Keep an eye for details over at OhNoKidsMovies.com, and join the Facebook Group to share your thoughts and kids movie stories with other parents and child caregivers.
ON THIS EPISODE:
It's okay if you're still trying to rationalize the EMOJI MOVIE's existence. Yes, it's low hanging fruit. Yes, the social commentary it attempts is probably over a year too late, but at least they can apparently round up a decent voice cast and carry a big budget. So let's talk about this soulless cash machine for studio execs and try to come to terms with the reality that a sequel or spin off isn't out of the question. With kids being overwhelmed with product tie-ins from clothing to fast-food meal toys, it's almost certain that this movie will be a thorn in our side well past the upcoming holiday season. So this movie sucks, and the kids seem to love it... Let's, us parents, have some fun at the film's expense. Also, who is the little dude that comes out of the bartender's back? Spin-off material anyone? "This summers best bartender stirs up some action and changes the way we see the service industry forever in... Back Man!" -
To celebrate the approaching birth date of Paula & Brandon's daughter, we decided to put on a rock concert and talk to a live audience about Mary Harron's cult classic AMERICAN PSYCHO (2000) starring Christian Bale. With 10 panelists, 2 rock bands and one bloody movie discussed, this may be our most ambitious podcast to date. What do you get when Danny disappears just before the show starts for 2 segments only to return in the third segment and have the GREATEST MOVE IDEA EVER? When Nic doesn't watch the movie before the talk and Tommy and East play the final DWP power struggle live on stage? When Devon and Jesse look back at their high school days and Matt from the crossover podcast is thinking Dorsia... This very special FIRST EVER LIVE TAPING of MRML!

Nic, Abdullah and Brandon discuss the latest incarnation of everyone's favorite web-slinger, SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING. While the box office numbers are healthy for the official introduction of Spider-Man into the MCU, it only takes a quick glance at any social media site to see that fans are not all in agreement over the film... So let's talk about it! Also, Brandon's upset about the "Easter egg" hunter in his screening, Abdullah gets greedy with his imaginary podcast earning, Nic petitions for Shia LaBoeuf as Carnage in Sony's upcoming VENOM movie.
-
Okay.. So for the sake of transparency, we actually forgot that we recorded this episode. Brent had some strong opinions of this movie, Paula was confused, and Brandon was void of any emotions. All that being said, it was a surprisingly fun talk to have about a movie we didn't really have a lot of fun with. If you feel like talking about Alien: Covenant, you know how to reach us... but we'd much prefer to talk about ANY of the other Alien flicks.
-
Paula takes over the show and talks to Abdullah and Brandon about Patty Jenkins' WONDER WOMAN starring GAL GADOT as Diana, Princess of Themyscira. It's been a long time coming to see this member of DC COMICS' "holy trinity" on the big screen, let's talk about it!
-
It's Brandon's birthday, so let's dust off the VHS collection and get into 1986's Highlander. East, Devon, and Brandon get a little carried away with this Sci-fi/Action franchise starter; Ramirez conspiracy analogies, the Kurgan's weird sexual predilections, How to deter Christopher Lambert from trying to breastfeed, and the acoustics of Sean Connery's bathroom are just a few of the topics that may or may not come up in this discussion(spoiler: they totally will come up). Also, Devon pitches his idea for "Top Gun 2: The Goosening". There can be only one!(... And there probably should've only been one.)

If you had to program a 6-film Movie Marathon of Wes Craven flicks, what would be on it and why? Trevor from Terror In Toronto is back and he joins Brandon and new panelist, Scott for a talk on this very subject. The gents take a look back over the career of this horror icon and argue for their selections to make it to the MRML Craven Marathon list. Hopefully this doesn't come to blows.

Enjoy this talk? Check out episodes 3 and 4 of last October's SLASHER FEST for more talk on Mr. Wes Craven's work. -
Devon and Brandon discuss Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 right after seeing it. Also Devon's painkiller induced rant from last November's Doctor Strange discussion.

Is it just us or did there seem to be a lot of people with harsh things to say about GHOST IN THE SHELL leading up to it's release? But with the film now in theaters, it seems as though the negative chatter has quieted and is being overtaken by a positivity around this visually-ambitious live-action adaptation of the classic manga and anime film/TV franchise. So is the film any good? Devon, Abdullah and Brandon get into the film in detail (so, SPOILER WARNING) and through the course of their discussion, find their answer to that question.
-
What film should a newcomer to the COEN BROTHERS filmography watch first? Should they get to know Joel and Ethan by exploring their early works like BLOOD SIMPLE and THE HUDSUCKER PROXY? Should They dive into their comedic classics like FARGO and THE BIG LEBOWSKI? Or maybe they should try their hand at some of their critically acclaimed novel adaptations like NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN and TRUE GRIT? Needless to say, Danny, Abdullah, Devon and Brandon have differing opinions. Let's help them decide, tweet @mrmlpodcast on twitter or use the hashtag "#moviesruinedmylife", wherever you talk about movies!

Which X-Men, Spider-Man, and Fantastic 4 properties will make it through to the Tournament? Can Superman and The Punisher sneak their way into the bracket? Let's find out...

After a week of Darkness from the MRML panelists, comic book month returns With our talk on LOGAN! Nic and Brent are back for their first episode of 2017 as they and Brandon are joined by Matt from the Crossover Podcast to get back into comic geek mode with a discussion on the R-rated final installment in the WOLVERINE trilogy. Also, Bryanna from StarCrossedStyle.com joins us via telephone as she combats a really bad cold to share her thoughts on the film. Now of course we have to warn about spoilers for those who haven't seen the film, but you should also keep in mind that this film will almost certainly be both Hugh Jackman and Sir Patrick Stewart's last X-Men movie.... and after 17 years spent with these actors in the roles of two of our favorite mutants realized on the silver screen, we may get a little emotional. Expect a rant or two!
-
With our discussion on LOGAN coming on March 15th, Danny and Brandon decided to first take a look back at X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE and THE WOLVERINE. We're all having trouble saying goodbye to Hugh Jackman after 17 years as Fox's Wolverine. Join us in the first of this two episode focus on the last two decades that we've spent with WEAPON X on the silver screen!
