We feel fortunate whenever we have the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Scott Hadland, a pediatrician and head of adolescent medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Scott is a teen addiction specialist whose clinical and research interests focus on preventing and treating drug and alcohol use. This episode focuses on the very real and alarming world of fentanyl. Every parent, guardian, caregiver, friend, and relative should listen to this episode and have a conversation with the young people in their lives. One single conversation may not make it stick; it may take seven, eight, or nine times for the message to sink in. All pills, unless they come directly from a pharmacy, should be presumed to contain fentanyl. We encourage you to follow Dr. Scott Hadland for valuable insight at @drscotthadland.

Tune in every Monday for a brand new episode!

When it comes to teenagers, powerful emotions come with the territory. And with so many societal pressures facing today’s teens, it’s easy for them—and their parents—to feel anxious, overwhelmed, and insecure. We brought in parenting expert and author Dr. Lisa Damour to talk to us about her book - The Emotional Lives of Teenagers. In this podcast, Dr. Lisa gives parents the concrete, practical information we need to steady our teens through the bumpy yet transformational journey into adulthood. It's no secret that there's a history of sexism, misogyny and hypermasculinity in sport, particularly in elite men's hockey. In elite sport, masculinity is often defined by glorifying toughness, promoting aggression, encouraging 'bro culture', and upholding the locker room 'code'. But what does this mean for parents raising kids who want to take part in sports like hockey? We put our kids in sports so they can make new friends, get active, and learn about sportsmanship - certainly not to fall into a culture of toxicity and misogyny. Dr. Teresa Anne Fowler, PhD in Gender and Sexuality Studies, joined us to break down her research into the cultural reproduction of masculinity and how parents can work to make change and protect their kids from unhealthy masculinity in sports. For more on Dr. Teresa find her at https://profiles.ucalgary.ca/teresa-fowler.
