This is a podcast about how runners can live better lives through consistent self-improvement.
Unlike other running brands, The 1% Better Runner focuses on how small, daily habit improvements ripple into broader life success, helping runners perform better both on and off the road, track, or dirt.
I’m Daren DLake: Certified running and nutrition coach, Sub-3-hour marathoner and 10-hour Ironman finisher.
Since 1996, I’ve been helping other self-coached runners, researching, and experimenting on how to better myself 1% each day.
A few times a week, I’ll drop how I’m tweaking my training, sticking to habits when life’s messy, and cool stuff from coaches and health pros. It’s a no-BS cheat sheet for building better habits—not just for running, but for work, relationships, and personal growth too.
Join thousands of other committed runners listening to the most exciting run and endurance sports content on the internet and get more tactics and strategies in your inbox each week.

This is a running podcast for all runners of all levels with the legend Sonia O’Sullivan and comedian Jarlath Regan. Expect conversation and craic around every aspect of athletics and running with the occasional special guest.
In lockdown Sonia promised to teach self-confessed coach potato, Jarlath, how to run. 2 years on, they’ve gathered together a community of runners from across the world. Hear about Sonia’s work coaching the elite athletes at Nike HQ in Portland and Jarlath’s ramshackle journey towards the London City Marathon in 2023. Voted Ireland’s number 1 running podcast in 2022.

Welcome to my show! I’m Shangrila Rendon, 2x Guinness World Record Holder, best-selling author, professional endurance athlete, triathlon coach & motivational speaker (https://www.shangrilarendon.com/).
I was abused as a kid and sexually assaulted as an adult. At 24 years old, I was diagnosed with extreme depression, PTSD, and struggled with eating disorder and alcohol addiction. In sports, I didn’t know how to swim, was afraid of open water, didn’t own a bike and started running only 15 minutes on a treadmill. I was a non-runner, non-cyclist, and non-swimmer at 24 yet I became an inspirational athlete regardless. I trained very hard and aimed for excellence. I coach athletes to achieve their dreams.
My goal is to share with you my journey in triathlon and endurance racing that is full of tough lessons learned, mindset, race, training and nutrition strategies, and secrets to success. The goal of this show is to introduce you to the people and ideas that will help you execute your dreams. You will level up your skills, attain joy with your triathlon & endurance goals and live up to your full potential.
Every Tuesday, I drop a weekly dose of inspiration on alternating topics:
- Interviews with inspirational athletes, who will inspire and motivate you in achieving your goals and dreams. We will talk about their journey, achievements and experiences as well as key strategies, habits and lessons they learned you too can incorporate in your training, racing and life in general.
- Interview with health, nutrition, mindset and triathlon endurance experts where they will share findings and key information from their expertise and experience. Various topics from ambitions, time management, sleep, family, drugs, ego, failure and so much more. No topic is off-limits.

Endurance sports are our most unrecognized Orwellian dystopia - weakness is strength, strength is weakness. Have athletes just reached a point where simplicity is truth? Or are we too willing except structures which see the few succeed and the many fail? Maybe those are two sides of the same coin. Taking a new view of the puzzle of individual endurance sport. Combing ideas from history, psychology, physiology, cultural anthropology, training methodology and more to understand the experience of an athlete and search for new ideas to help us grow and develop into the best possible version of our competitive selves. Black Cats Run strips it all back to the studs and offers a new, better way to feel good in training, racing, and, just maybe, in life.
