Dick has been a motorcyclist for 60 years, starting in 1964. He has owned five motorcycles, including a Lambretta scooter, a Honda 160, a Honda 450, a Honda CB919 sport bike purchased new 22 years ago, and a Triumph Rocket 3 bought new 8 years ago. He rode the 160 and the 450 across the USA in the past. With the CB919, he has explored California, Idaho, and Montana. The Rocket 3 has taken him to every U.S. state except Hawaii and every Canadian province except the Northwest Territory, accumulating 115,000 miles (185,000 km) on the odometer. Dick has also ridden a Harley in Hawaii, and missed the Northwest Territory due to its lack of roads. His adventures extend to the chaos of New Delhi, India, and the splendour of Bhutan in the Himalayas, nestled between northern India and Tibet, east of Nepal. Bhutan is characterized by towering north-south mountain ridges, 2,000 meters above the valleys, and a single east-west highway that zigzags from one ridge to another, talk about twisty-curvy roads.

After spending years building successful careers, Ken and Zsofi started to become a little disillusioned and began to dream of something bigger than the usual 9 to 5 (don’t we all). Sophie was a former flight attendant, and Rag has always looked for adventures by motorcycle. This is something that Sophie has also become addicted to since passing her motorcycle test over a decade ago. Holidays for the last decade or so have always been about touring on motorcycles. To date, they have covered the UK to Hungary and back again twice, the UK to Luxembourg, a tour of Transylvania, and a tour of Italy. Recently, they covered quite a bit of the Balkans with Serbian friends. Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Croatia are incredible places to visit by motorcycle and have become some of their favourite regions to explore by bike. Touring the world by motorcycle was always a dream and never much of a reality, especially as they have two Border Collies called Ricky and Molly that they just couldn’t leave behind. Then one day, they heard about a couple who had been doing just that and now had a business that manufactured and sold dog carriers for motorcycles. Suddenly, that dream didn’t seem so far away. A seed had been planted, and ideas were starting to form. What if they sold the house and all their possessions? How long could they last on the road? Would the dogs take to riding on the back of a motorcycle? Listen to episode 4 to find out more!
