Around this time of year, end of January and into February, is when the charm of winter starts to wane and we daydream about those warm sunny days. It's easy to get frustrated during this time, but just like any other season, there is a reason for it, and there are precious things to gain here that we can't during other times of the year.
So in this short and sweet episode, I share with you my top two things to do when you are feeling that winter angst. Give them a try, and you never know, this could become your favorite time of the year! Or a least a time of year that you don't dread.

And we are back with the first podcast episode of 2022 and another year-end round up episode talking real talk about the healing lessons learning in 2021.
This will be the fourth year my dear friend Artist Nichole Rae and I share with you our biggest lessons from the past year and what our intentions are for the year to come. And this year we are joined by our other wise friend, past podcast guest, and the designer of this very website, Ashley Dedin Carlson.
As finding a quiet space to record a podcast when you have little ones around is quite the challenge, we actually recorded this episode in Ashley's bathtub. Yup, we are that cool and that close of friends.
So I hope you enjoy our bathtub chat as we share about:
accepting the stories our bodies tell
how self-acceptance comes before self-love
the importance of seeking out how much pleasure and joy you can feel
postpartum rage and exploring anger
embracing the victories big and small
undoing the layers of body image issues
how to be more Betty...RIP Betty White
and more!

We live in a very forward-moving culture. When one thing ends, another thing immediately begins. Or we start the next thing before we even finish out the current phase we are in. Not only is this behavior expected, but it's also encouraged and celebrated.
But the unfortunate thing about moving on too quickly is that we don't take a moment to honor where we've been, what we've accomplished, what all happened during that meaningful phase of life. And when we brush over or dismiss all of that, we aren't actually moving on. There can be unfinished business or this continual feeling of not being enough.
So in today's podcast, I ramble on about:
- the complex emotions that can come up when you are letting go of something or moving on into a new season of life
- the importance of honoring where you've been
- why it's ok to move on from something even when it's good
- honoring the complexities of grief
- ceremonies or rituals you can do to close chapters of your life or ways of being that no longer serve you
There also is quite the cameo appearance from my six-month-old, and I share what's next for the Simple Self Care podcast.

A common philosophy in the world of health practitioners is that you can only go as deep with others as you have with yourself. When you do the work yourself, you are then able to facilitate others to that work, as well.
In this week's ramble, I share with you:
- my recent experience of doing my own healing work around my birth trauma and the positive results of doing that work
- how prioritizing your healing is the opposite of selfish
- how to heal as a community
- how to find a practitioner you can trust
- and more

It's common to have a go big or go home mentality when it comes to connecting with nature. Like we have to go on a big camping trip or live in a place with a grand mountain range. And we discredit the beauty and wonder that can be right out of our front door or even a quick drive away.
Join me outside today as I ramble on my morning stroll about how to connect to the nature closest to you.

While there's a lot of talk about how to feel better, there isn't a lot of talk about what to do when that actually happens. It seems counterintuitive, but when you've gotten so used to living with pain and stress, feeling better can actually be difficult to embrace.
In this naptime ramble episode, I explore:
- this reaction we can have to joy and why we shut it down
- why it's so hard to relax
- how we can and why we need to lean into the happier seasons of life
- and more!

Ah yes, the Springtime. The earth is waking back up. The animals are coming out of hibernation. We are refreshing ourselves after the slow Winter pace. And the Simple Self Care podcast is making a comeback!
I'm not counting this as an official new season of the podcast because I'm experimenting with a new format that will help me still greet you on the airwaves while living that new mom life. We are testing the waters with this to see how the podcast will be moving forward.
I'm calling it the "Nap Time Rambles" where I ramble on about a self-care topic within the duration of one of my five-month-old's naps, which happens to be around 30 minutes these days. So they will be more like my old school short and sweet episodes that are packed with self-care considerations and inspirations for your week.
And to kick it off, I'm helping you make the most of the end of this Spring season by sharing my top tips for aligning your self-care with the healing energies of this time of year.
Take a listen as I share some thoughts on:
- letting go of perfectionism and showing up anyway
- how to work through some of your self care hold ups
- the healing qualities of Spring
- the most simple and supportive way to detox
- how to make the most of the Spring cleaning energy
- and more!

2020 was certainly a time, wasn't it? Along with the events and challenges we all shared globally, we also had our own personal high's and low's to work through. And while we are just starting to process all that went down last year, and we still don't have a lot of answers and solutions and a clear path forward, what we can do is stay in community with each other and find solace in relating to and learning from each other.
So with this special bonus episode, I bring on my dear friend and podcast regular Artist Nichole Rae for the third year in a row to recap our year, share what we've learned from what's been thrown our way, and offer some insights on moving into the new year with more positivity and intention.
Take a listen as we share:
- Nichole’s journey with endometriosis and how it’s empowered her
- some of my birth story and healing from an unplanned cesarean birth
- dealing with things not going according to plan
- life after trauma and leaning into who you are now
- the power of staying present
- holding space for joy and grief at the same time
- and more

This pandemic has been weird and trying and unpredictable for everyone. We all have our own story of how it's changed our lives and shifted how we show up in the world. And for me, it's been happening amidst another huge life shift - pregnancy and becoming a parent for the first time.
But the silver lining of any season of difficulty is that there are also very valuable life lessons to be learned and implemented. So to close out this season of the podcast, I'm sharing with you the top 5 lessons I've learned from being pregnant during a global pandemic.
And since I know that only a small percentage of listeners are pregnant or planning on becoming pregnant during this time, the lessons I'm sharing can be applied to any phase of life or circumstance you happen to be in. And if you are pregnant, you'll get an added layer of value from this one.
So take a listen as I share my insights on:
- how to lovingly deal with an identity crisis
- how to honor the grieving process
- welcoming in new traditions and rituals
- honoring your weird and quirky rhythms
- how to celebrate your body, no matter the size and shape
- how recovering people pleasers set healthy boundaries
- staying present to the love and joy that you may be missing
- the importance of staying in community, no matter what it ends up looking like
- and more!

Women's health issues are on the rise, and more and more women are feeling lost and confused about how to care for these issues, especially in natural and nurturing ways. Though this is improving, there is still a huge lack of education around women's cycles and how being in tune with them influences the health of our entire body.
In this episode, I chat with Lisa Hendrickson-Jack a certified Fertility Awareness Educator and Holistic Reproductive Health Practitioner and host of the Fertility Friday podcast who teaches women to chart their menstrual cycles for natural birth control, conception, and monitoring overall health. We cover a lot of ground on all things women's health and the importance of understanding how your body works, and I know you will get a lot out of it.

The Autumn season is a time for nesting and a time for establishing healthy and intentional habits as we head into the winter months. But it can be difficult to know what habits to let go of and what habits to bring in.
So to help give us some guidance on habit setting and doing it in a way that is enjoyable and sustainable, I'm re-airing a conversation I had with Anthony Ongaro from Break the Twitch where we deep dive into all things intentional living and create habits that are in alignment with who we are.
Take a listen as we chat about:
-compassionate habit setting
-the importance of creating simple habits
-our individual origin stories for how we’ve come to preach what we practice
- how to break the mindless twitch of habits that don’t align with who we are
- how to turn your personal growth and life lessons into a tangible practice
-how to turn up the volume on your own inner wisdom
-the power of continuing to begin again

Implementing new habits, especially when it comes to self-care, can be tricky and overwhelming. And it’s easy to want to apply the “all or nothing” mentality to building these habits because you are ready for results and you want them now.
But this way of going about it is not very sustainable, and it can lead to burn out, negative self-judgment, and defeat when you fall short of your big expectations. And when your self-care is laced with those thoughts and feelings, it really isn’t self-care.
So in this episode, I share a different approach that gives you some instant gratification, simplifies your habit changing process, and it's something that you can do every day to care for yourself no matter what.
Take a listen as I talk about:
- how to create a self-care practice that actually sticks
- the power of showing up for yourself in small and simple ways
- how your whole day can change in just five minutes
- how to create a self-care non-negotiable you can start doing tomorrow
- my personal non-negotiable that I do every day
- and more

But holistic psychiatrist and best-selling author Dr. Kelly Brogan is here to help guide us back to ways we can loving care for our mental health and beyond by tuning us back into the powers we have within to heal in a powerful and sustainable way.
