Today we are joined by my good friend Sophie Lane to chat all things running and more! For the few of you that don’t know, Sophie is the most friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable runner around! She is an Exercise Physiologist, Strength & Conditioning and Running coach, while also co-hosting a very successful running podcast on the side called the Stronger Stride which you should definitely go subscribe to if you somehow haven't heard of it!
A very well known name across Sydney despite having moved hear not so long ago, it's an honour to have gotten her on the pod! Thanks for everything you do to the running community Sophie!

Jack Anstey - Professional Runner for Underarmour Dark Sky, Australian representative in the World Indoor Championships 2022 and Illinois State alumni joins us today to talk about his extremely interesting story on the lead up to getting his professional contract, and also starting running at a later age of 16 (unlike other runners who start a lot younger).
We go through many awesome stories throughout his career so far, a bit of info about strength training and also a bit of NCAA jargon. I had an absolute blast chatting with him and I’m sure you guys will thoroughly enjoy it too!

Today we are joined by a trail ultramarathoner and a great friend of mine, Daniel! He is very experienced in the sport of running and has a very community oriented outlook! We touch on very important topics such as not tying too much of your identity to your race results and performance, and that the ultramarathon is a completely different sport. Daniel also recaps his recent UTA 100km experience (his fourth one!), which proved to be a tough challenge this time round. We go quite deep in this episode and I appreciate Daniel so much for sharing some of his wisdom, knowledge and experience.

It was an absolute pleasure to have Drew Fryer and Jimbo Fitzgerald, two very accomplished running coaches to share their expertise and the importance of good communication and people skills to develop a good athlete-coach relationship. We also briefly touch on their vision with their new Eastern Suburbs Project
It was an awesome chat, so good that we ended up having a further 40 minute chat off camera afterwards (which probably could have been another episode in itself)! Drew Fryer was named the Sport NSW Young Coach of the Year in 2021 and Jimbo Fitzgerald has coached all disciplines of Athletics to either a national or Olympic level, while also working with many juniors and still having never had a junior athlete with a bone stress injury ever, which shows that he truly believes in longevity and sustainability when training to be a great runner. He has coached the likes of Jenny Blundell and Milly Clark up to the Olympics, so you'll definitely learn a thing or two from this episode! -

In this episode, Sota Maehara and Walter Boehme talk about 5 factors to consider when going travelling as a distance runner. We wanted to talk about this as we are currently on a trip in Thailand where we both raced the Laguna Phuket 10k and Half Marathon where we both placed in both races! It was awesome recording a podcast in person for the first time as there was no internet lag/delay! We have some more episodes coming soon with some big guests, so stay tuned!

It was a pleasure speaking to Caitlin today about how she started running, complications with being an NZ born athlete competing in Australia, her NCAA experience, injuries and health setbacks and her coaching business she has established since finishing her time at Florida in the US Collegiate system. She now coaches 40 junior athletes who have achieved some remarkable results in the past few years. It is awesome to see how much effort she puts into her club, and you can just tell from scrolling through their Instagram @cmbrunningacademy. We even had a cameo appearance from one of her athletes Tess Hannigan, who has recently come off winning a national title in the U18 2k Steeplechase and a third place finish at the 3000m at age 16!

It was awesome catching up with Ed Goddard today! He’s got an incredible running resume: ASICS sponsored, 62 minute half marathon, 2:13 full marathon, but most importantly, he’s a very respected and liked guy in the Sydney running community because he takes the time and effort to connect with his followers and is happy to be transparent with his training, and gives some great advice! In this episode we touch on his recent Sydney 10 victory, his upcoming Half marathon at the HOKA Runaway half, his weekly training structure, his ambitions to make the 2024 Olympic team for the marathon, nutrition, a bit about the Cubs, baseball in Japan, the Singapore running community and the importance of marketing yourself well as a runner in order to push the sport forward! He answers a couple listener questions at the end too.
Overall, he gave an incredible amount of insight so make sure to give the entire episode a listen and rate the Wave Running Podcast 5 stars so we can get more high profile runners like Ed!

Pleasure to have a good friend of mine - Zach Aspinall on the podcast! Zach was a Pace Athletic customer but we clicked when we met, had a profound chat about his Bondi to Manly event and the gluteus medius tendinopathy that unfortunately resulted from it. He was looking to take a break from the corporate world and wanted to experience working at Pace Athletic (a running specialty shoe store). In this episode we touch on his unique background, his Boston Marathon experience, working at Pace Athletic and more! It’s crazy to think he has done 3 marathons and has never NOT broken 3 hours while only starting running two years ago.

Was a great honour to have James Constantine come on the podcast at such a momentous time in his life, finishing off his 6.5 year tenure at Athletics NSW and moving onto a big team at Pont3 to help the Sydney Marathon become a World Major! It's been a pleasure knowing him and doing a bit of photography and videography work for him over the years and I'm excited to see what he brings to the table at Pont3.

In this episode we are joined by Luke Smith, who had an amazing 2022, running a personal best in the 5k, 10k, half and full marathon. In this episode we touch on how he got into running and his rapid progression to fast times, but we also touch on his recent hiatus from running and a bit about his shoulder nerve damage which he hasn't talked about anywhere else yet! We also talk about Delta Running Project too, a club that we both train with sometimes. Hope you enjoy the episode, any feedback is appreciated!
