Can laughter ease anxiety? Comedian Julian Clary certainly thinks so. After living through some incredibly dark events and anxious times, he’s decided to choose to laugh and think positive thoughts.
In this chat with Fearne, Julian talks about feeling naturally happier and more comfortable in his skin as he got older. Most things, he says, just aren’t as important as you think they are, and that’s a freeing realisation. Julian also explains why he’s embraced causing outrage and even offence.
Fearne and Julian share how they’ve each combatted poor sleep, and the sleeping aids, medications, and techniques that have worked for them. Plus, Julian’s not a massive fan of therapy, so he turns the tables on Fearne and quizzes her about her experience of it...
A Fistful of Clary, Julian’s western-themed stand-up tour, will be heading out round the UK from 30th April. Get your tickets now: julianclary.co.uk

Let’s return to this classic history of the Roman emperors and hear a bit about a ruler both famous and infamous in his need for public adulation. Why pay attention to affairs of state when you can perform for judges you’ve bribed? Stately!

We acknowledge that the youth are our future but... are we considering their best interests when planning new initiatives and programs? How can we empower our youth effectively?
To ensure inclusivity, especially from a gender perspective, we must consider those who are less outspoken and those outside of our usual circles, not just those who are already empowered. This brings us to another question: How do we identify empowered youth?
By addressing these questions, we can create programs that genuinely serve all young people and foster a safer and inclusive environment.
In this episode of GOSSIP, we invited Qistina Johari, Campaigner at Amnesty International Malaysia, where she leads the development, implementation, and monitoring of the organisation’s campaign strategies, and Abdullah Nishad, our very own Advocacy and Outreach Officer at KRYSS Network.

Introduction: Minutes 0 to 11:00
I watched Paradise with Sterling K. Brown on Hulu and didn’t like how it ended. Chandra felt the same way about Feud: Capote vs. The Swans. I love The Pitt on HBO. We’ve both been watching Severance and love the performances. Chandra is watching The White Lotus and recommends Court of Gold on Netflix. I watched Heretic but don’t recommend it.Oscars: Minutes 11:00 to 19:00
We had the Oscars this week and Chandra’s favorite movie, Anora, won the most awards. We’re glad Mikey Madison won for best actress over Demi Moore. Demi won plenty of awards and didn’t go home empty handed. I wish that June Squibb was nominated for best actress for Thelma, my favorite movie of 2024. It takes a ton of money to campaign for an Oscar.Royals: Minutes 19:00 to 36:30
Since we last recorded we had the Invictus Games in Canada and Duchess Meghan’s show With Love, Meghan came out. Last week, before the release of With Love, Meghan, Kate and William visited Wales and were such obvious copy-keens. They visited a cake shop and “made” cakes and Kate was sure to mention her jam and said she’d give the recipe to someone. Then we got a weaksauce story from a royal expert claiming Kate didn’t marry for a title, but Meghan did. There’s been a real silence from the palace as they figure out how to copy Meghan. I remember when Kate copied Meghan’s Zoom background. With Love, Meghan is a sweet comfort watch where she makes food and does crafts with her friends. I’ve watched the first five episodes so far. Chandra has watched the whole thing and loves the episodes with Roy Choi and Vicky Tsai. It was cute to see Meghan interact with her friend Abigail Spencer. We talk about some of our favorite recipes including the salted fish and fried chicken.
We recorded this episode before the news that With Love, Meghan got a second season. Chandra wants Roy Choi to go on again. She thinks the vocal critics of the show have never watched a cooking or lifestyle show. The critics want Meghan to be all things at once. In season two we hope they don’t change things too much and just make little tweaks. Meghan was very smart this week about her PR including being on the cover of People. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about With Love, Meghan.
Comments of the week: 36:30 to end
Kaiser’s comment of the week is from EmpressCakey on the post about Ione Skye’s new memoir. My comment of the week is from Jess on the post about Jennifer Garner thinking Ben Affleck has a dark side.
Thanks for listening bitches!

Our chat today is with the former AFL player and sports psychologist at the Saints (now at the Bombers) Dr. Ben Robbins.
What a conversation! It's really valuable to hear a perspective on Mental Health from someone not only who has worked with incredible people but is himself and amazing bloke.
We dig into his own life and Mental Health journey, his work in and out of sport as a psychologist and a highlight of this is really to see the close relationship between Stocker & the doc! A real mutual respect and caring between them just filled us all up.
Enjoy! MoW. -

Retired Detective Constable Ron is called to the scene of a fatal car accident. At first, the driver was nowhere to be found. Then suddenly, a man with marked "prison swagger" appears on the scene...or reappears, as it were. As Ron works to build a case against this driver, he reveals just how far quiet confidence will go when it comes to wrapping up a case.
The detective: Detective Constable Ron
Detective Constable Ron retired after 32 years of policing. He spent 20 years in patrol, which included 15 years being part of the Emergency Response Unit (SWAT). He also worked as a detective and crisis negotiator, and held many other roles. One of the biggest highlights in his career was helping organize and taking part in the annual Police Memorial Bicycle Ride to Remember which finishes at the Nations Capital the day before the annual Police Memorial Service. He continues to take part in this ride every year! He is currently a Professor in a College Policing Program as well as a Personal Fitness Trainer.

After more than three years, Chatter is ending its run. In this episode, Shane and David reflect on the diverse range of topics at the frontiers of national security that this podcast has explored—from spy fiction to lessons of history, from climate change to the visual and musical arts, and from sports and culture to the practice of intelligence.
Along the way, they refer back to many of the podcast’s brilliant guests while lamenting conversations yet unrealized and specific issues yet unaddressed. And they finally ask *each other* several questions from the Chatterbox before closing it. (Forever?)
Works mentioned in this episode: Many too many to list.
Goodbye, and thank you for listening.
Chatter is a production of Lawfare and Goat Rodeo. This episode was produced and edited by Cara Shillenn of Goat Rodeo. Podcast theme by David Priess, featuring music created using Groovepad.
