In 1979, Anson Dorrance, already the men’s soccer coach at the University of North Carolina, was hired to coach the women’s team as well. It was transitioning from a club team to varsity team through the opportunities afforded women’s collegiate athletics by Title IX. Despite having the men’s job, Dorrance was tapped to take on a second team and within two years, the landscape of women’s college soccer would be forever changed.
During his tenure at UNC, Dorrance has built one of the best dynasties in sports history. He also is known globally as the coach of the US Women’s National Team that won the first Women’s World Cup in 1991. His contributions to the game are immeasurable.
Our guest on this episode is Anson Dorrance, himself.

On this edition of the ArsenalVision Podcast, Elliot is joined by Clive and Tim to start the process of reviewing last season before fully shifting into transfer window mode. First there’s a discussion of the big headlines including the CL final, Fulham’s interest in Eddie Nketiah, rumors of moves for Kiwior and Zinchenko, and Saliba being blocked from joining the France team for the Olympics. Then the episode uses the preseason predictions as a launching point for what surprised us about the season and what didn’t. There’s an effort to find the things that went wrong (and right) and then determine how to improve on the areas of opportunity. There’s even a bit of very very early (some might say too early) predictions for the upcoming season. All that and more on this edition of the ArsenalVision Podcast.
