In the public edition of this episode I explore why soft plastic prawns leave live prawns in their wake. And in the members version I go on to explain how to choose, rig and work soft plastic prawns to maximum advantage.

In this episode of the Australian Lure Fishing Podcast, I sit down with Rory Benn-Clibborn from Perch Palm Lures to explore advanced techniques for fishing with soft plastic lures. Rory, an expert in finesse fishing, shares innovative methods that are rarely used in Australia but highly effective overseas.
We kick off with drop shot rigging, a versatile technique allowing soft plastic lures to hover naturally above the bottom. Rory explains the setup, including the use of tungsten weights and straight shank drop shot hooks for increased sensitivity.
Next, we delve into the Texas rig, perfect for shallow, weedy, or structured environments. Using a sliding tungsten bullet weight, this method offers a natural presentation and reduces snags, ideal for targeting species like redfin, bass, and golden perch.
We then explore the Carolina rig, which adds a leader between the weight and the hook, making it excellent for open water fishing. Rory shares tips on using floating soft plastics to enhance this technique.
Rory also introduces wacky worm rigging, where the lure is hooked through the middle, creating a unique fluttering action. This method is effective for casting under structures and targeting species like redfin and bass.
Additionally, we discuss Ned rigging, a simple yet highly effective technique involving a mushroom-shaped jig head and buoyant soft plastic, perfect for catching a variety of species in different conditions.
Throughout the episode, we cover practical applications and situational uses of these techniques, offering listeners valuable insights to adapt their fishing strategies based on local conditions and fish behavior.
