On Tuesday night, the baseball world stopped and watched as the biggest stars in the sport played in the 94th annual Major League Baseball All-Star Game in Texas. Despite the National League starting Pittsburgh Pirates rookie phenom Paul Skenes, as well as throwing out some other big arms, the American League was able to do what they’ve done quite a few times in the past decade and take the game with a 5-3 victory.
Jake Mintz & Jordan Shusterman recap all the memorable moments from the Midsummer Classic including Shohei Ohtani’s three-run home run that initially put the NL squad on top, Juan Soto clearly having a ton of fun, an impressive performance from Mason Miller and Jarren Duran’s go-ahead home run that secured him MVP honors for the game.
Later on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jake and Jordan recap the highlights from the newly reformatted version of the Home Run Derby, why it was a little underwhelming and wonder if we’ll get to see some of the big home run hitters in baseball partake in the event in the future.
(1:40) - Recording live on the field from Texas
(3:41) - Memorable moments from the All-Star Game
(7:38) - Shohei Ohtani hits his first All-Star Game home run
(12:02) - Mason Miller impresses

Following Sunday's announcement of the reserve players for the 2024 MLB All-Star Game, the only question yet to be answered is who are the two players who will toll the bump for their respective squad? While there are a few good options in the American League, it’s the National League that has drummed up quite a bit of debate.
Jake Mintz & Jordan Shusterman talk about why Pittsburgh Pirates' ace Paul Skenes is the obvious choice for many to start the game, however, after only making 10 MLB starts, it’s left the door open for a more deserving veteran to be the selection. They also wonder if Garrett Crochet playing on the Chicago White Sox will hurt his chances to get the nod for the AL start.
Also on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, the guys talk about the immediate impact that Rece Hinds has had on the Cincinnati Reds, they give credit to Ben Cherington for hanging with Rowdy Tellez after his rough start to the season and which New York Yankees hitter will have the highest OPS the rest of the season after Aaron Judge and Juan Soto.
Jake and Jordan then go around the league discussing Jordan Westburg and Hunter Greene being named replacement players to the All-Star Game, the New York Mets trading for Phil Maton, the Boston Red Sox door of opportunity being open and the latest news surrounding Wander Franco.
(1:59) - NL All-Star Game starting pitcher
(15:51) - AL All-Star Game starting pitcher
(18:43) - We need to talk about…
(30:57) - Yankees 3rd OPS leader

We finally have the complete MLB All-Star Game rosters, and everyone has some thoughts. Who was selected and who was snubbed? Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman break it all down.
Among the biggest snubs, Brandon Nimmo who the guys argue may be even more deserving than Francisco Lindor. As for the guys who were selected, Jake and Jordan are most happy for guys like Jurickson Profar and David Fry, who got their first All-Star Game nods.
Also on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jake and Jordan go through the series from this weekend, including how Raphael Devers continued his arc as the new Yankees killer.
The guys also have segments on a warm and fuzzy moment from the San Diego Padres, who set a new attendance record on a random Friday night, plus the guys give their nuclear overreaction to Colton Brewer who fractured his hand when he punched the dugout wall.

When the Chicago Cubs brought in highly desired manager Craig Counsell, the thought was that there could possibly be joy in Wrigleyville in 2024. However, after a bit of a rough stretch for the Cubbies, they now find themselves with the third-worst record in the National League and potentially in the position to be trade deadline sellers.
Jake Mintz & Jordan Shusterman talk about what’s gone wrong lately for the Cubs and how it's landed them in the mix for the third wild card spot in the NL but still 5.5 games out. They also compare this season to the Cubs' 2023, when they went on a roll and decided not to be sellers at the deadline. Did they learn their lesson or will they make the same mistake twice?
Later on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, the guys are joined by Pittsburgh Pirates social media hit, Saxboy, to talk about how his enthusiasm for the game of baseball and the Steel City has grown with the success of the Pirates. He discusses going on the road and following closely with the club, as well as a funny interaction with the Pirates' GM, Ben Cherington, in an airport.
Jake & Jordan also get into the offensive struggles for the Mariners, who have benefitted from excellent starting pitching, the unicorn prospect James Wood making his debut with the Washington Nationals, Aaron Civale being traded to the Milwaukee Brewers and pay tribute to the late Orlando Cepeda.

Despite plenty of opportunities for a four-game sweep (otherwise known as a mop) no team was able to clean up this weekend. And there weren’t any three-game sweeps either!
On this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jordan Shusterman and Jake Mintz go through all the weekend’s series and they have segments galore to get us through Monday.
Jake and Jordan bring back one of their favorite segments, “Sorry For Your Mentions,” and read some of their favorite replies to the Cubs’ social media posts. Then the go into their “Nuclear Overreaction” segment, and decide how the Pirates can ignite their struggling offense. The main suggestion: get Paul Skenes up to the dish.
The guys then have a laugh about José Iglesias’s musical performance after the Mets game in the “First Time For Everything” segment, and then they hand out their “Player of the Weekend” award to Spencer Bivens of the Giants, who made his first start, struck out Shohei Ohtani twice and celebrated accordingly. After that, Jake launched into turbo mode to power through the rest of the weekend games, and finally they give an update on the Home Run Derby.

(2:24) Mopportunity knocks: recapping all the four-game series

In 2023, the Texas Rangers rode their wave of momentum and turned it into the club's first ever World Series title after defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks. However, this season has proven to be a bit more of a challenge.
Jordan Shusterman is joined by MLB.com Rangers beat reporter Kennedi Landry as they examine where things have gone wrong for the defending champs of baseball, as well as talk about the case for Josh Smith to make the American League All-Star Game squad and if rookie Wyatt Langford has turned course for the better following his injury earlier in the season.
Also on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jordan and Kennedi make their picks for this week's The Good, The Bad and The Uggla, which includes a bat boy saving Shohei Ohtani from a foul ball, a rather unfortunate play at the plate involving the Oakland Athletics and the New York Yankees being in a really rough stretch currently. They then preview the weekend slate of games which includes a whopping six mopportunities.

The New York Yankees opened up the 2024 edition of the Subway Series with their crosstown rival New York Mets on Tuesday night. The little brother of the two New York teams got the best of the Bronx Bombers, taking the series opener while lighting up Yankees ace Gerrit Cole for six earned runs on four home runs in four innings pitched.
Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman take a look at the second start from the leader of the Yankees' rotation and if there is any reasons for concern about how Cole has fared since his return to the mound. They then talk about why Tuesday night at Citi Field is an example of the ultimate goal for Mets owner Steve Cohen, both on the field and in the stadium.
Also on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, the guys talk about the strange beef between the San Diego Padres and Washington Nationals, with Jurickson Profar and his impressive batting this season leading the way, as well as Elly De La Cruz hitting a ball extremely far away and Hunter Greene not feeling the best on the bump.
Jake and Jordan close out the show by dishing on the drama that followed the College Baseball World Series involving Jim Schlossnagle’s decision to join a Texas rival. The Houston Astros for the majority of this season have been underperforming and it’s reflected in their record. However, after a sweep this past weekend over the very dangerous Baltimore Orioles, it’s fair to wonder if the Astros are lurking, like the boogeyman, waiting to make their move on the 2024 season.
Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman talk about why Houston could be one of the more dangerous teams to face, especially when they have Framber Valdez and Ronel Blanco pitching in the same series, and their offense really starts to the click. Can the Astros take advantage of a division that is still very much open? Time will tell.
Also on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, the guys talk about Paul Skenes continuing his brilliance on the mound for the Pittsburgh Pirates, pitching like he’s still trying to get promoted to the big leagues, Steven Kwan’s super success at the plate since returning from injury and Giancarlo Stanton landing on the injured list yet again for the New York Yankees.
Jack and Jordan close out the weekend recap episode talking about the first ever walk-off clock-off between the Colorado Rockies and Washington Nationals and why it was inevitable for it to happen at the always wacky Coors Field.

Thursday night saw the San Francisco Giants face off against the St. Louis Cardinals. However, it was the environment of the game that stole the show. The renovated Rickwood Field, formerly home to the Birmingham Black Barons of the Negro league, was the setting for a game that took on a special meaning with many former Negro league players in attendance. It was also the perfect way to remember the legacy of Willie Mays.
Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman discuss why this event went beyond just the baseball game that was played, and they talk about Reggie Jackson’s poignant remarks during the pregame show and the importance of taking Major League Baseball on the road to play in special venues.
Also on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jake and Jordan sit down with potential first-rounder Brody Brecht from the MLB Draft Combine to talk about his choice of playing professional baseball over football, the first time he ever hit 100 mph as a pitcher and attending the University of Iowa at the same time as Caitlin Clark. The guys then close the show by giving this week’s edition of The Good, The Bad and The Uggla.

The Los Angeles Dodgers were a heavy favorite to win the World Series this season, with superstars in their lineup and in their rotation. However, this past weekend, they took a double gut punch when they were forced to place shortstop Mookie Betts and starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the injured list.
Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman talk about the hit that these two injuries might have on the Dodgers for the rest of the season, why they’ll need Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman to step it up even more and the positive spin that these injuries might have for the club.
Also on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, the guys talk about the gambling suspension for umpire Pat Hoberg and then get into all the other action from the weekend including the Boston Red Sox getting over .500 with their series win against the New York Yankees, the Minnesota Twins mopping the Oakland Athletics and the New York Mets getting hot since the appearance of a McDonald’s mascot.

The Atlanta Braves came into the 2024 season with lofty expectations after winning the most games in baseball last season. However, things have taken a bit of a turn for Atlanta in their last 40 games — they’ve gone 17-23 and have fallen 10 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies for first place in the National League East.
Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman examine what exactly has gone wrong for the Atlanta Braves this season and why there is still hope for them to make the postseason despite losing Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuna Jr. for the rest of the season. But considering they haven't made too many changes to their 2023 squad, being shutout by Albert Suarez and the Baltimore Orioles should raise some red flags.
Also on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, the guys talk about Paul Skenes receiving a rare standing ovation on the road following a 6+-innings performance agains the St. Louis Cardinals, Major League Baseball dropping the ball when it came to the debut of Rintaro Sasaki and Cavan Biggio being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Jake and Jordan wrap the show by giving a quick preview of the College World Series and what they’re most excited to see.

Normally, a series of this magnitude doesn’t live up to the hype. However, this one did.
Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman talk about the epic three game series that saw Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Teoscar Hernandez lead the Dodgers to a 2-1 series win, the electric atmosphere in the Bronx from both fan bases and the notable absence of Juan Soto from the Yankees’ lineup.
Also on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, the guys talk about why the Atlanta Braves will be one of the first teams to make a trade to help their underperforming lineup since the loss of Ronald Acuna, the Texas Rangers being on the verge of getting back a major piece for their rotation and the super success that Kyle Bradish has had for the Baltimore Orioles.
Jake & Jordan also recap every series from this weekend in baseball and break down the newest City Connect uniforms to drop for the Minnesota Twins. Spoiler alert, Jordan is a big fan of the design.

The 2024 edition of the Major League Baseball All-Star game is a little over a month away which means that it’s time for fans to start sending in their picks for who they want to see represent the American and National League squads.
Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman do their best to put together the most fun and deserving teams for the mid-summer classic, set to take place in Arlington, Texas this July. While there are a few obvious selections like Aaron Judge, Juan Soto and Kyle Tucker in the AL outfield, other position battles, like the AL shortstop crop, will create some fun races to watch as the votes come in.
Also on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, the guys talk about Juan Soto’s forearm tightness and why New York Yankees fans shouldn’t be overly concerned about the injury just yet, the ascension of Gunnar Henderson despite his draft status and the epic match-up between Paul Skenes and Shohei Otahni earlier this week in Pittsburgh.
Jake & Jordan then give their picks for this weeks’ The Good, The Bad and The Uggla and highlight a couple weekend matchups including the London series between the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies.

For the second time this year, a major betting scandal has been uncovered in Major League Baseball that includes four players being suspended for one year and one receiving a lifetime ban. Although the names aren’t as noticeable as the previous scandal, MLB made a swift and impactful ruling on these five players.
Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman break down the scandal including some background on Tucupita Marcano, who received a lifetime ban, and why his punishment was much harsher than the four other players included in this report. Plus, they discuss why MLB had to make an example out of these players.
Later on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jordan talks about attending the Los Angeles Dodgers-Pittsburgh Pirates game on Tuesday night, where Tyler Glasnow made his return to PNC Park as a completely different pitcher and Jake talks about why Rowdy Tellez has earned the ire of Pirates fans.
Jake & Jordan then get into Rhys Hoskins’ return to Philadelphia. Gerrit Cole’s first rehab start in AA and open up the listener mailbag answering why fans can’t vote on pitchers to make the All-Star Game, who the leading ump is for most disliked in the sport and much more.
