Jen chats the highs and challenges of sex work with Tassie comedian, erotic fiction novelist and sex worker, Jane New. This was recorded as part of a Covid19-inspired podcasting experiment “Let’s Talk,” but I loved our conversation so much I asked Jane if we could release it on Funny Mummies and she thankfully agreed!
Fun fact: this was recorded the evening before Covid19 stuff in Australia really went to shit. Jane said it’s amazing to have this episode recorded as it takes her back to literally the moment before everything in her life changed so dramatically. Fingers crossed we have the chance for a follow up episode sometime soon!
Jane got hooked on comedy at the age of 64 at a comedy night with an Over 50s Singles Meetup Group. She won RAW Comedy Tasmania in 2018, “accidentally”. She has written a number of erotic fiction novels and writes and performs about sex and sexuality.

We’re on a boat! Cal Wilson and Jen squeeze into Cal’s cabin while performing on a cruise ship, and chat expectations before and after kids, the endless push/pull of career and munchkins and more.
Cal Wilson came across the Tasman in 2003 and has gone on to become one of Australia’s most popular comedians, a perennial favourite on television shows such as Spicks and Specks, Good News Week, Thank God You’re Here, and more recently Have You Been Paying Attention? and Hughesy We Have a Problem. Her stand up shows are as engaging as they are hilarious, often bringing the audience’s stories to life alongside her own.
In 2018, Cal was invited by Netflix to the Montreal Just for Laughs comedy festival in Montreal to record a Netflix Original Comedy Special which was released in early 2019. Cal was also in the writers’ rooms for the first two seasons of The Weekly with Charlie Pickering . In 2016, she landed one of her dream jobs as an ensemble cast member in Whose Line Is It Anyway? Australia alongside some of the country’s brightest improvisers.
Cal continues her national touring and is returning for her 5th year as the Melbourne live show host of the worldwide smash-hit storytelling podcast The Moth.
2019 also saw Cal become a very serious children’s author, penning two books called “George and the Great Bum Stampede,” and “George and the Great Brain Swappery.”

Anna shares the upside of an ADD personality: being able to manage a gazillion projects, biz ideas and parenting (and her hack for getting a child's Dad onboard as support is, while impractical for the rest of us, genius.)
You can find Anna online here: https://www.facebook.com/annabrennancomedian/
Anna Brennan started doing stand-up in Melbourne in 2014 and now runs a stack of open mic comedy shows on the Sunshine Coast as well as MCing gigs for a bunch of things including Horizon and Anywhere Festival. Her first solo show was performed at Bris Funny Fest in 2018, where festival organiser Adam O’Sullivan described it as “an insightful, hilarious and yes, sometimes a bit dirty, look into the world of modern female dating.”
Kate Rudge, the unofficial Queen of the Brissy comedy scene, said the show is “unapologetic and honest, Anna is clearly having a load of fun and it's infectious.“
