Leigh Nash and Matt Slocum of Sixpence None the Richer join Caroline Hobby for this episode of Get Real. Leigh and Matt share about being ‘two kids from New Braunfels, Texas’ that went on to find massive success with iconic hits like “Kiss Me” and “There She Goes.” Leigh, lead singer of the group, grew up wanting to be the next (fellow Texan) Tanya Tucker. Leigh and Matt described not being ‘cool’ enough to break into the Austin music scene, but they were accepted in the Dallas scene. Matt would get out of college classes and drive himself and Leigh, who was still in high school, up to Dallas to perform and that’s how they got their start. The two detail their love / hate relationship with “Kiss Me” which was a massive hit early in their career, prompted by tv/movie placements like “She’s All That” and “Dawson’s Creek.” They discuss getting a massive break with David Letterman having them on his show to perform and then pulling them in for an unplanned interview. Leigh and Matt share about the pressures of fame and success and going through a season of burn out and more.

Singer-songwriter Caroline Jones sits down with Caroline Hobby to talk about her extremely unique life story. Caroline recently became the first female member of The Zac Brown Band. She shares about the call she got from Zac Brown asking her to come on the road and how that eventually led to an official position in the band. Caroline shares about her other mentors in the industry including the huge role Jimmy Buffett played in her career. After finishing school, Caroline made her way to Nashville to further her songwriting craft and she immediately felt right at home. For many years, Caroline focused solely on music, not allowing herself to really have a personal life. She shares about the synchronicities that led up to her meeting her sailor husband. Caroline details how they moved to New Zealand right after meeting one another and the magic of falling in love in such a beautiful place while the world was shut down during the pandemic. CHEVAL drops by Get Real with Caroline Hobby to share her incredibly unique story. Formerly known as Hayley Paige Gutman, CHEVAL was a massively successful wedding dress designer and “Say Yes to the Dress” personality up until 2020 when her relationship with her former employer broke down. CHEVAL found herself in a full-fledged legal battle where she lost the ability to use her birth name and was unable to continue making wedding dresses. CHEVAL shares her inspiring story of overcoming odds and completely rebranding after losing everything she’d worked so hard for. After the dust settled, she successfully launched her shoe brand “She Is Cheval” and started “A Girl You May Know Foundation” as a way to spread awareness to other creatives about the potential dangers of non-compete clauses, the risks associated with vague contract language and more.
