: Lost Dogs of America with Kathy Pobloskie
Kathy Pobloskie, Director
: Lost Dogs of America
Lost Dogs of America is a group of volunteers who saw the need to provide no cost resources to the owners of lost dogs to increase the chances of locating and being successfully reunited with their dog.
Lost Dogs of America provides education for dog owners on preventing the loss of their dog. The program also benefits local animal control and shelters by decreasing the number of “owned strays” entering the animal control/shelter system and increasing the chances of finding an owner once the dog is in their care. The personal touch their volunteers provide sets them apart from other automated lost and found pet services. Lost Dogs of America has a state-run group in almost every state in the US.
Kathy Pobloskie, Co-Founder/Director of Lost Dogs of America and Director/Founder of Lost Dogs of Wisconsin joins us every month. Kathy founded Lost Dogs of Wisconsin in 2009 and co-founded Lost Dogs of America in 2012.

A Fighting Chance Foundation has been helping Virginia animals in need since June 2020. They are a charitable, 501(c)(3), not-for-profit organization based in Northern Virginia with the goal of making pet care affordable for Virginia families by subsidizing a portion of emergency or life-saving medical care for animals whose guardians do not have the necessary financial resources. Their mission is to support critical care for ill pets of the elderly, disabled and those whose total household income does not exceed the current Federal poverty guidelines. The Foundation aims to keep our animal companions healthy, happy and in their homes with the families who love them. Started by three Northern Virginia residents, Amy LaVigna, Laurie Judd and Kristine DeJarnette, the Foundation has helped approximately 90 dogs and cats receive prompt, veterinary care that sometimes supports a more comfortable life, and other times saves a life. Hoping to one day expand to a national charity, the Foundation runs on 100% volunteer work and Board member donation. Long-time animal advocate, Amy LaVigna, has rescued several dogs with major health issues over the years. The cost of proper veterinary care for cancers, injuries and disease can be exorbitant for anyone. Amy found herself in and out of emergency vets paying high costs to ensure her dogs received treatment and surgeries. Realizing how inaccessible vet care is for those who already struggle with day-to-day bills, A Fighting Chance Foundation was formed. They provide hope and help to pet owners in their most difficult times. Now in their third year, the Board of Directors is looking to expand their reach and connect with donors who also know that any donation, no matter how big or small, can make a real difference, a direct impact on dogs and cats in pain or facing life- threatening issues.

February is Responsible Pet Owners Month. When we think of February 14th, we think of love. But every day of every month, who loves us more than our pets. That is why its our responsibility to keep them safe and take good care of them. Responsible Pet Owners month also gives us the opportunity to spread awareness to perhaps help those pets not as lucky; an opportunity to help those who are mistreated or abused so that injustice can be stopped. Being a responsible pet owner is not hard. Show your pet some extra love this month by making sure they are safe, healthy and loved every day. Marilyn Litt is the Director of Lost Dogs of Texas, a member of the Lost Dogs of America family. Lost Dogs of Texas helps reunite thousands of dogs with their families every year through Facebook and flyers in connection with PetFBI.org.

We all look forward to making New Year’s resolutions. As part of those resolutions, let’s make keeping our pets safe a top priority. New Year’s Eve brings fireworks and many, many fearful pets who bolt. Many end up losing their lives being hit by cars. Simple steps can keep our pets safe. Some pets are found quickly and others are never found. Keeping your pets safe year-round isn’t hard. What are the simple steps you should take?

Have you ever wondered what happens to shelter dogs during the holidays? Was there a way you wish you could help them but aren't in a position to adopt? Finnegan Dowling from Mutual Rescue talks about special day foster programs offered by shelters that help place shelter dogs in homes for the holidays.
Finnegan Dowling is the Shelter Program and Social Media Manager for Mutual Rescue, a national initiative of Humane Society Silicon Valley that encourages people to engage with their local shelters. Finn has worked in shelters in Washington State, Colorado, California and Nicaragua. A graduate of The Evergreen State College, her writing has also been published in The Bark, Bay Woof, SFGate and Huffington Post. A key part of her current position involves helping shelters across the country start and market day fostering programs. She is the creator of the Doggy Day Out Toolkit, a free resource of manuals and templates to help even the smallest shelters start programs of their own. She lives in Corpus Christi, Texas, with her husband and Waylon, her neurotic pit bull.

Each year we suggest that pets not be given as gifts during the holidays. Are these pets being abandoned, given away or taken to the local shelters soon after they are given because the recipient really didn’t want a pet? Brigid is here to discuss long- held beliefs and practices that are coming into question to reflect what is really going on with pets that are given as gifts. Brigid Wasson is a lifetime animal care and welfare professional. She is a retired animal shelter director and has been a professional pet sitter since 1994. She is the President of Mission Reunite, a nonprofit dedicated to missing pet prevention and recovery. She is an international speaker and writer, focused on providing advice and support to animal care and welfare advocates, leaders, and entrepreneurs. She has taught workshops, made presentations, and collaborated with Humane Society of the United States, Getting 2 Zero Australia, and Maddie’s Fund. Brigid has been featured in many publications including Bay Woof and Catster, and has been interviewed for a number of podcasts including Community Cats Podcast and Let’s Talk Pets. She grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and currently lives in Sonoma County, California with her animal family of cats, dogs, and horses.

Mary Obedier is the owner of Chase’n Tails Pet Care and Founder of Bradenton/Sarasota Professional Pet Sitters. Mary’s pet sitting business is in such demand (which is a good thing) that she realized there is a huge need for more great pet sitters. But pet sitters and other pet business owners sometimes need help, too. This is why Mary decided to start a new venture as a virtual assistant to lend a helping hand to pet businesses. Her goal is to make the life of pet business owners easier so they can enrich the lives of pets. Her new business will offer services such as answering the phones, emails and texts. Processing new clients, client retention, screening and interviewing new sitters, scheduling, software support, office administration support, payment processing, invoicing, income and expense input, projects and any other needs a pet sitter can think of.
