LIP 68 is packing heat with a few classic segments. First up, Neil helps Nicola kick out dinner part guests from his house (1:45). What is the optimal strategy for throwing people out so you can hit the hay? Does an overly-polite and passive British approach get you what you want? Or can it backfire somehow? What about making up lies about your next day? Or should you just stand up, shake everybody's hand and lock yourself in the bedroom?
Then, we want to know, have you ever seen the falls? Falling down on us? We take a journey to the US-Canada border where we hear from some One Star Google Reviewers about their experiences visiting Niagara Falls (10:15). The postulation drifts rapidly in many directions but leaves us asking: can a peace ever be brokered between the Canadian and American side of this great landmark? And is LIP best positioned to bring about that peace?

For the first time ever in the history of LIP, we've recorded an episode with only one host! Nicola hosts the podcast and talks to himself for the better part of half an hour, while the world holds its breath in anticipation of Neil's return from his travels to the South of France.
In the core postulatory segment, he continues his lonely crusade to make airports a better place by introducing referees and a card system (5:10). Should you be punished from cropdusting your way through the terminal? What about letting your kids wreak havoc? And why are you still having lose change in your pocket when going through security?
After that healthy does of mundanity, he shifts his attention to his current pop culture consumption habits (21:30). Should we all give stand up comedy shows another chance? Why are there not that many good movies during awards season? And what's worth reading at the moment?
You can read a full version of Nicola's article on Airport Referees here: https://muddyum.net/why-cant-people-just-behave-normally-in-airports-5099bde69967

Join Neil and Nicola on this special bonus-episode all about language. Our deep-dive sees us pass through what the most difficult languages we have learned are, some of our favorite language related party tricks and what the studies say about the benefits of language learning. We then round things off with a quiz to test whether we can tell what language is being spoken totally out of context.

Tuck in your napkins, sit back and prepare yourselves for an extortionate bill, because LIP is diving into the world of fine dining (6:20)! Neil and Nicola don't hold back as they postulate their way through a ten course menu without any toilet breaks. Is fine dining really all that fine? Do we actually need to eat pigeon eyeballs cured in a casing of beeswax under awkwardly dim lighting? And have we reached peak-celebrity chef?
Then, our friends from the Reddit-verse assist us in navigating the a-hole sphere (20:50). Who is the a-hole out there in internet land? Is a very expensive cologne an insensitive birthday gift? What do we think of people that take a principled stance on only dating people taller than themselves? And should you let parents know that they are mispronouncing their own child's name?

With Nicola otherwise occupied, Neil is joined by none other than singer-songwriter Graham O'Hara to discuss creativity, finding your voice and how a beginner can take their first steps into making music.
First though, please wipe your feet and take off your shoes before jumping into our standard mundane postulation (2:30) where the guys discuss a uniquely cultural debate: shoes on or shoes off at home? Do you let guests make up their own mind, and are dogs exempt from clean foot protocols?
From there it's onto the main segment of the episode (11:26), where Graham takes us through his experience as a songwriter with over 20 years of experience making music. We start with how Graham developed his love of music, the factors - conscious and subconscious - that drew him to music originally, and the highs and lows along the way. Graham expands on just how he manages to create at such a furious pace (21:29), and how he navigates the unavoidable territory of social media as a musician today (27:50).
Next it's onto his advice for beginners (33.29) - how can new musicians avoid that initial wall of frustration when progress doesn't come as quickly as you hoped? And how do you finally force yourself to just sit down and play that instrument that's been gathering dust (36:47)?
Finally, the guys discuss feedback (48:56): should budding creators share their early efforts far and wide, or focus on creating content that compells themselves first and foremost? And are The Killers doomed or lucky to play Mr Brightside at every gig?
You can pre-save Graham's new single You Are before it releases on October 31st at the pre-save link here: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/grahamohara/you-are, and find him on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/grahamohmusic/

On this special bonus-episode, Neil and Nicola's postulations take a dark turn.
Neil presents his case for a postulation about cults. What is a cult? What is the history behind some of the most famous (or infamous) one? And can the guys manage to postulate their way through creating one of their own? Why does Olivia Coleman get a shoutout? And will the Gulf welcome them with open arms?

What do George Clooney and Irish Pubs have in common? Well, not that much, as it turns out.
George Clooney has been (presumably) making a killing from Nespresso for the better part of the last 15 years, which leads us to postulate about his career trajectory (4:18). Has George completed fame by being best known for 'just' being George Clooney? Is he Mr. Nespresso to us or Danny Ocean? And was he ever that great of an actor? Does it even matter?
Then in our core postulatory segment, Neil ruminates on the death of the Irish Pub (14:35) and we discuss our own pub-going experiences as well as giving shoutouts to Thomas Blade and to LIP's favorite pub.

When we want the most thought-provoking, insightful and absurd postulations, all we have to do is tap into our bulging listener mailbag! This time around we heard about a sweet potato fry conspiracy (5:35) and the increasingly common habit of people sharing private conversations on public transport.
Then, it being an election year and all, we decided to peek behind the curtain and provide the results of all our outstanding listener polls (27:35). Is a black tie dress code still acceptable at weddings in 2024? And who will run the Average Joe Olympics? These are the questions that truly matter this year. Your future is on the ballot, or something like that. Special guests included Werner Herzog, 3 different versions of POTUS and a few disgruntled listeners unwilling to accept the results of our elections.
We rounded things off with our pop culture recommendations; some sensible others a bit more obscure but all worthy of a postulation.

This jam-packed episode of LIP starts off with a return appearance by Conspiracy Neil (5:00). In what will likely become a recurring segment, he makes his case for beaches being the worst scam known to man. Do people truly enjoy themselves on a beach or are they just there to signal something? What British lord started this scam in the first place? Is sand overrated? And are pools generally better?
Then Nicola segways us into the wide world of geography (18:20), discussing theories on why it is so under-appreciated and under-taught in schools. Are we undergoing a geo-renaissance thanks to computer games and Tim Marshall? We ask ourselves what the biggest geographic misconceptions are (29:45), before rounding off with a contentious quiz (41:10)!

LIP's diamond anniversary gets off to a bang with a postulation about Pringles (3:00)! Does the fact that the tube is too small to fit your hand actually aid the enjoyment? What other foods can this postulation be applied to? And have we been sleeping on the GOAT of potato chips?
Then, our core postulatory segment sees us channel our inner Delilahs as we field questions from the (in)famous subreddit: Am I The Asshole (10:07)? What is the etiquette on bringing you partner along for a wedding weekend they were not invited to? Are parents allowed to skip toilet queues without asking politely? Are you naive for not getting travel insurance and then expecting reimbursement? And are you entitled to complaining about a raise?

We kick off this week's episode with a reflection on "black tie" dress codes - are they outdated, and is a black tie wedding too big an ask?
From there it's onto our initial reactions to the Paris 2024 Olympics. How long was that opening ceremony and what niche sports are the guys enjoying most? Then we roll up our sleeves to once-and-for-all finalise a long-running LIP idea: the Average Joe Olympics.

This episode has a French flavor as we turn our festival series to the Olympic games (1:43). Are we Olympic romantics or skeptics? Why do people keep watching them regardless of all the taint around them? And what is the actual product? Then Neil reveals a hidden talent in a very specific Olympic discipline before dropping a bombshell about a showing in front of 50,000 spectators!

After over-postulating on the 3 minute Gladiator 2 trailer, Neil and Nicola dive back into One Star Google Reviews (10:50)! Is a for-profit driving school in Salt Lake City that is running a scam on test takers? What exactly is their endgame? And why do they seem to discriminate extra against VTPs (Very Tall People)?
That leads the guys to the next logical postulation: can we even trust good Google reviews anymore or is a 3.8 star rating paradoxically better than a 4.8 now (26:00)? Then in honor of the summer, they review what seems to be a nightmare holiday destination in Mallorca (29:30)? Will a call to the establishment itself change their minds?

Like Heinz and their delicious ketchup with their 57 varieties, LIP now has 57 episodes to choose from! The question everyone is asking though; are there are any drops left in the postulation bottle? And, speaking of bottles, how difficult is it to drink from the newly EU regulated bottle caps without succumbing to injury (3:35)? A special guest from Westminster pays Nicola and Neil a visit with his BREXIT-inspired postulation.
Then, pack your bags and renew your passports as Neil introduces the world to a new concept called 'Lost In Perambulation' (11:35). Nicola's first task is to advise Neil on his summer travel plans (or lack thereof). Where can a procrastinator who does not like the heat go? Then, they round things off by discussing this years hottest travel trends, postulating about their significance and the future of holidaying (28:50).

Neil and Nicola are back, and they're somehow even more postulatory than ever before!
After a quick recap on the various sources of brain-rot you can consume the podcast through, we jump into a voice-note postulation Nicola captured live in the field on a recent flight (06:22). Is Main-Character Syndrome alive and well in the skies above Scandinavia, or is there No Real Person Involved?
From there it's a another tentative dip into the murky paddling-pool of celebrity culture, where the guys discuss exactly what the price of fame truly is (20:41). Is fame a blessing or a curse in 2024, and is anonymous success the smarter play?
Finally we wrap things up with a check-in on our latest musical exploits (34:38). Nicola reveals his Youtube Rabbithole discovery of the month, and Neil discusses the stark contrast he experienced seeing rock/metal stalwarts Tool and Metallica live in quick succession.

Neil and Nicola are back to postulate on the state of mundanity and pop culture! On this episode they get techie in the beginning as they ruminate on the practical usefulness and accuracy of Chat GPT (2:23). Plus will Scarlett defeat Altman (and is talk of Zuck with a beard real)? Then, they discuss the recent fallout surrounding the Dublin-NYC interactive video portal (9:00). What does it say about us as humans? Were there more Irish mooners than Americans? And what other cities could adopt the same concept?
Then, it's on to what is becoming a recurring segment: Neil Hearts Belgium (19:55). Nicola takes Neil through a postulation gauntlet of Belgian records (19:55), which one should they be remembered for? The longest ever plank? A bankrupt airline? A waste of good chocolate? How about the longest period without a sitting government?

This episode is jam-packed with all the postulatory loose ends you did not think needed tying. Nicola and Neil power their way through a personalized celebrity cover, the importance (or lack thereof) of the Eurovision project (3:30) and whether or not we need an Average Joe Olympic Games.
Neil provides an update on his recent bed buying experience including a postulation on paying someone to move your old bed for you (13:30). Then, it's apology time as the guys apologize to Germans (and their cuisine) (29:10) and Dutch sick bag collectors the world over (33:00). Nicola rounds things off by taking Neil back to the mundane streak gauntlet; will chicken nuggets or map drawing dethrone the Big Mac (34:40)?

After an atrocious attempt at an introduction in Irish, Nicola runs Neil through a gauntlet of mundane streaks, challenging him to pick one to stick to (4:35). Will he choose Will Shortz's streak of playing table tennis everyday for 10 years? Or will he eat at least one Big Mac everyday for the rest of his life? What about collecting as many sick bags as possible? The postulations are endless and quite weird!
Then, listeners, press start as Neil postulates on the future of video game adaptations (32:00). Are we living in the renaissance age of video games made into movies and TV series? What is driving it and what can we expect to see next?

Postulators, assemble! On this edition we postulate on the addictiveness of online games. Where are we after the thousandth Wordle? How many immaculate grids can there possibly be? And who is more likely to crack on their streaks, Neil or Nicola?
Then, since nothing gets our hosts more excited than staring at a nice map and eating a lovely meal, we decided to combine the two (7:15). Nicola presents his theory of an Eat To Live/Live To Eat meridian that splits Europe equally and they go about testing the hypothesis live on the podcast. Where will your favorite country land? Why does Germany get its own category? Do we underestimate the Balkans? And could the Baltic block pull off a historic upset?
