As we approach the final weeks of The Season of Wonder, we discuss the overall flow and cohesion of the Season. Most notably, the Rediscover Campaign has reached its finale with the release of the improved AR experience. All of the new releases that we have seen this season are still sitting in the shadow of GO Fest, which won’t even happen until next Season.

Rivals week brought us a divers encounter pool and some motivation to knock out some GBL sets. It’s always nice to when GBL events roll around because it really brings the best and worst of the community out, and it is always entertaining.

Flock Together Research Day brings a nice pool of Flying Type Pokémon and the inevitable Shiny Hunt. This event looks to be a promising update to the now recurring Research Day. Catching Wonders is up next after a small stretch of vanilla spawns. The announcement of Bounsweet and Spanish language support round out our new of the week.

We wrap things up with a discussion about the new PokéCoin Paid Research that brings back a poor return along with a terrible condition… that you must have 3 or less Field Research in your stack when the day turns over. Oooh weee we cant wait to see this in action.

When the Rediscover GO trailer dropped the Community was hyped and social was filled with speculation and hope of how the game would be updated. The Rediscover Yourself campaign was first up, and we are sad to say that it was one of Niantic’s biggest misses to date. This isn’t poor servers or a latency filled experience, but rather a slew of unpopular decisions that Niantic has made to advance their new Avatar update. We will take a dive down the Community rabbit hole at the end of the episode.

We start things off with a recap of our Bellsprout Community Day experiences, and how triple Stardust is always a popular bonus. Our first gameplay story of the week is about how Sustainability Week has changed over the years, and unfortunately not for the better. We look back to 2021 when the event actually had a real world component to it by partnering with non profits to promote cleaning up the environment. Each year since then the event has lost some of its magic, culminating in this year’s event, which seems to be falling flat. Being overshadowed by the Rediscover Kanto spawns didn’t help things either.

Cleffa Hatch Day will be rounding out the month taking place during the final weekend of April. The big story of the week takes us back to the Community reaction to the Rediscover Yourself update. From missing genders, to clipping assets, to a very strange art style, there isn’t much if anything that is getting high praises this week. While inclusivity may have been the goal of this update, it may have backfired.

We look to a pair of articles from GO Hub that cut to the chase and identify many of the issues that the Community has with the update. The site also touches on the sensitive nature and purpose of the update outside of simply an avatar graphical update. The backlash online has been significant, and Niantic has been getting dragged on this one, with a lot of toxic energy fueling some pretty negative stuff. To be plain, this week has been a disaster.

We want to be clear that we really believed in this update, and see the importance of greater options when it comes to character creation. We also identify however, that the execution of the update completely replacing the existing Avatar aesthetic rather than simply being in addition to it, has us all scratching our heads as to why this Niantic handled it like this. There are other important things to discuss as well regarding the sale of digital goods and how purchased items may not look or fit the avatar in the same way that originally influenced the purchase. There is a lot to unpack here.

This was a massive week for both events and announcements! We begin today’s episode with a recap of our last week of gameplay including Sizable Surprises and Bagon Community Day. Wh will have a few days of vanilla spawns before we hit the Bug Out and the debut of Mega Heracross. We will get you prepped and ready to get through the first half of April. Niantic struggled with the timing of the announcement, but Bellsprout will be the April’s Community Day Pokémon. While maybe not every Trainer’s favorite pick, the fact that Victreebel will learn Magical Leaf is pretty fitting for the 4/20 event date.

We open a discussion about the level cap and how it has been nearly 4 years since the GO Beyond update. It surely seems as if Niantic has been throwing a lot of XP our way, which may mean a level cap increase is imminent. We riff on if an increase is due, and the impact it could have on both new and veteran Trainers.

After being teased during the Ultra Beast Incursion in Los Angeles back in 2022, Necrozma has been announced to debut at Pokémon GO Fest 2024. While it may create more questions than it answers, this announcement is pretty exciting and just gave us something to set our Raiding sights on in NYC.

We close things out with a Mega Heracross Raid Guide and Battle Party. With Mega Heracross getting a Raid Day and entering the Mega Raid rotation, you are going to want to get a few hundred Mega Energy to place a few Heracross into your Mega Rotation. Being double weak to flying, it is time to bring out those Mega Rayquaza that you worked so hard for last year!

Trainers saw Team GO Rocket Take Over their games last week and we will recap how we did during the event! With Sizeable Surprises on the horizon, April is shaping up to be another packed month of events. We also have Part 2 of the Wonder Ticket to work through, which has proven to offer some great value in the grand scheme of things.

April Fools brought us an Excellent Opportunity to get frustrated over TImed Research, with a very divisive task to work through. Is making 25 nice throws in a row too hard? Probably not, however it was frustrating to fail and be forced to start over. Let us know how you felt about this task and if you want to see more like it!

Changes to AR have been pushed through and the Community suddenly cares about AR. We digress, but it is definitely a hot topic as Buddy interactions are a bit less engaging with being forced to use AR+ is a bit cumbersome. We can only hope that a new rollout of AR features will be coming and make sense as to why this change has happened in the first place.

We wrap things up with a Raid Guide and Battle Party for the Ultra Beast dui of Kartana and Celesteela. This pair is easy to Raid together as you can use a single party for both bosses. We put together our lists and will make quick work of these Ultra Beasts in the coming week.

We had plenty happening on and off the screen this week! We have plenty to unpack and plenty to compare opinions over! We begin with a recap of Weather Week and our current feelings on Verdant Wonders. Is Zarude the new Galarian Mr. Mime? With a $7.99 Ticket and a boring task progression, Zarude may take the cake as the most overpriced ticket when you combine it with the Wonder Ticket and other one offs that are constantly being hurled our way.

The April Content Update is here and there is plenty to dig into. Next month will bring us a new Mega, first time Shiny Legendaries, and a spattering of events to keep every type of Trainer engaged. How happy they will be is a different story, as Some Trainers are starting to feel the burn of the same old, same old for the last 7 years.

As we peek into our early April Events like Sizeable Surprises and Bagon Community Day Classic, we can both agree that the month will be starting off strong. With Bagon having the ability to help new Trainers hit their Dragon-Type medal and end-game Trainers hunt for the perfect Mega ready Salamence.

After touching on a few International tidbits of news, we dig into the big topic of the week. PGO Twitter’s Super-Villian, MasterWarlord01 has struck again. We look back on the FleeceKing situation and how it created a lot more concerns than just those regarding security. With many Trainer’s feeling like chopped liver about Fleece’s special treatment, we try to look at it objectively, to validate their feelings, but counterpoint for Niantic. With MasterWarlord01 striking again, it is a mystery as to what will happen and if Niantic will make a statement.

We are back after a brief hiatus! Thank you for your patience!

There is plenty to catch up on including our GO Tour gameplay, Research Day, and thoughts on the Horizon event. Niantic definitely has no interest in slowing things down post GO Tour as March is looking strong and packed with events. While we work through the Horizons tie-in event, we can prep for Weather Week and the return of the Primals. Plenty to be excited for and lots of decisions to make regarding how to approach prepping for the things.

The Wonder Ticket has been causing quite a stir as Niantic is continuing to test out different monetization styles as we shift to a ticket based gameplay pattern. While we aren’t talking big bucks, there seems to be a shift in what we are spending our money on, even if we are still spending the same amount. The question is whether or not the consumables that can be earned through ticketed events can provide the same results as spending for them a la carte.

Pikachu PH. D has been released through earning a Platinum Showcase Medal, which is a nice nod to rural Trainers. With city Showcases being exceptionally competitive and potentially filled with unwanted visitors, the rural Trainer finally has the edge with this one. We wrap things up with a discussion about some international IRL events happening on the other side of the globe!

Lunar New Year is here and at the time of this recording, are still working our way through the Global Challenge. Writing this description after the goal has been met and the bonuses not being well received, let’s enjoy our blissful ignorance in not yet hearing Twitter’s cries about it. Chansey Community Day was a fan favorite and great time!

This weekend brings us Hisuian Decidueye Raid Day which also falls on Super Bowl Sunday here in the USA. Mix this with Enamorus on Valentine’s Day and Twitter may have a melt down! With previous Hisuian Raid Days going well, even with the Super Bowl, we don’t think Decidueye will perform any different.

The Carnival of Love is up next and you will want to make sure you get your Heart Trim Furfrou and Heart Pattern Spinda. You will only have a few days to grind and then you may have to wait an entire year for another chance.

We save the dates for next Season’s Community Days and notable events. We speculate on whether or not we will see the, “every-other month” Starter trend continue. April is looking to be a busy month, and we even get a 4/20 Community Day.

Taken Treasures was a ton of fun and was the perfect close to January. As we close out the month, we need to get ready to grind because February will be an onslaught of events. Pacing has been over the top every month for the last few years and the barrage of events will continue into 2024.

We start with a runthrough of the February Content Update from the Official Pokémon GO Twitter account. While the final Eggs-pedition Access of the Season offers a web store twist, Lunar New Year is looking to be a winner of an event. We will have Chansey Community Day this weekend, but we will be able to enjoy a few days of Vanilla Spawns before the release of Drampa on 2/5.

The Road to Sinnoh will be our precursor to the Global Sinnoh Tour, with the return of Global Challenges. The blog leaves a lot of information out as we will need to play through the event to unlock the different encounters. While some roads lead to Sinnoh, others lead to nowhere. Another 1,000+ trip Route was just removed from the game for inaccessibility. We have no idea why this continues to happen, but it’s a real bummer.

The big news of the day was a wild tweet from FleeceKing that has rocked Twitter. The reactions to it have been wild, and we are watching the madness unfold in real time during the recording of this episode. It’s been a bizarre day in the Twitter Community, and we are here for it.

We have a nice combination of news and commentary this week as the both the blogs and social media have been on fire. We start with a recap of the last week of gameplay including Dazzling Dream and its questionable choice of a Hatch Collection Challenge. The Community was very upset about this being time gated, as well as the target hatches being in 7k eggs.

Adventure Effects are proving to be more polarizing than we originally thought. Once the initial excitement settled down, the social media sentiment took a major turn. It opened up the conversation of if the Effects were worth the investment, with many thinking the return just isn’t worth it. This is mainly influenced by only looking at the rewards and not the experience, a divide that is becoming more and more common in non-casual circles.

Annihilape will be here next week and it looks to be an exciting addition to a Battler’s arsenal. With relevance in all three leagues, you are going to want to catch multiple specs of this one! We look at GO Hub’s analysis of what you should expect heading into Raging Battles and GO Battle Week.

Taken Treasures will close out the month and is another two for one event as it is paired with a Team GO Rocket Takeover. Solid bonuses and Raid bosses will make this a good time, while the Battlers will finally have another chance to TM away Frustration.

We close the show with another heated debate from social media. A growing belief that ALL paid Research in Pokémon GO should be Special Research. We take a look at the reasons behind the feeling, and how both Paid Timed and Special Research can exist at the same time. Once again, we see the experience of the event being lost in the shuffle, as many are simply looking at the rewards as if they were making a direct transaction. Let us know your thoughts on the matter!

Niantic did not have the best week with a slew of hiccups across different mechanics of the game. From Therian Tornadus not available as a Shiny to Bewear learning a charge move as a fast move, only to be followed up with the Dusk Form Lycanroc debacle, Trainer sentiment of Niantic is exceptionally low. While Twitter may be as toxic as ever, those with thick skin and a level head have plenty to be excited about.

We have new GO Tour: Sinnoh details, including the announcement of Origin Forme Dialga and Palkia, along with their Adventure Effects. These new charge move perks could revolutionize how we engage with the game, requiring increased attention to inventory management and Stardust. The result will be new ways to bring efficiency to our gameplay, drastically improving our in-game experience. While we have some time before its release, we are sure that Adventure Effects will be polarizing and exciting.

The announcement of Porygon Community Day Classic and Chansey Community Day means 3 major in-game events over a 29 day period. While some may say the game is asking a lot of their schedule, others say bring it on. The event overload leads to our topic of the week: monetization.

The Eggs-pedition Access may become the new normal, with a recurring $5 monthly ticket, in addition to any a la carte spending. We do feel that Niantic is giving Trainers plenty of options with their spending, allowing F2P players a great experience, while enhancing gameplay for those that are willing to invest. Finding the balance between passive spending and FOMO will prove to be a very interesting vibe to follow.

We have plenty of gameplay to recap from the last week. The pair of Winter Events made for a nice setting for Wyrdeer Raid Day. With the holiday weekend making it tough for someTrainers to find the time to get out to Raid, we discuss how an increased Remote Raid limit makes for a nice supplement to in person play. Sometimes, but not always, shelling out the cash for Remote Raid passes can equate to a satisfying gameplay and event experience.

Rowlett will be our first Community Day Pokémon of the year and we speculate on if we will see a consistent return to Starter Pokémon alternating months with non starters. Any way you look at it, triple Stardust is worth the effort and mixed with half hatch distance, there are two solid reasons to get some IRL gameplay in.

January looks to have a few tricks up its sleeve but New Year’s will be our first Event of the new year. We hope you like Costume Pokémon because this event is filled with them. While we would always be on the Shiny hunt, the grief of transferring Costume Pokémon is dreaded. Pichu with a Party Hat looks to be a solid chase in the egg department if that’s your thing.

The Aye Aye Captain Wayfarer Review Challenge has wrapped up and the stats are in. As expected, the Wayfinders came out in force and proved that there is an amazingly strong movement of Trainers that believe in Niantic’s vision to map the world. With over 175,000 nominations resolved, and the Challenge making its way to the US, Trainers around the world are able to enjoy the results of the Challenge. For those that took part, the Tier 4 Rewards were absolutely amazing, and the individual rewards were insane.

We wrap things up with a Raid Guide and Battle Party for Buzzwole. While the Shiny will not be available, it is still a cool Pokémon. We turn to Pokébattler to help us construct our teams, and they couldn’t be more different. With Mega Pidgeot making the top 10, can decides to pay tribute to one of Pokémon’s OGs, and bring a party of Pidgeot… Like a G. Adam on the other hand, brings a beautifully diverse mix of hundo Flying Types, with some of his party getting action for the first time.

There is a ton to discuss this week as we journey deeper into Timeless Travels. Adamant Time had some ups and downs with the encounter pool being polarizing, as Kanto typically splits the Community. Nothing however, will split the Community more than a good old fashioned Niantic blunder, which is what happened this week in GBL. Black & White Kyurem were accidentally released as GBL Rewards, which really upset the Battlers once it was pulled. Not sure what they thought was going to happen!

As we make our way through the Winter Events, we have new Pokémon, new Shinies, and some solid bonuses to keep us engaged. Hopefully many Trainers have woken up to new WaySpots in their Community as the Wayfarer Challenge absolutely crushed its goals. Ripping through the APAC Countries, the Challenge turned to the US and a ton of our backlog has been addressed. Shout out to all the Wayfinders putting in work!

Finally we bounce off our conversation from last week with some creators claiming the game is dead and that their content is suffering because of it. We call out some inconsistencies in that argument with Mystic7 saying views are WAY down while FleeceKing has the most insane Hype Train ever on Twitch. We discuss some comments from Pat Flynn, who seems to nail our exact sentiment. Their aren’t less people watching PGO content, they are just watching different PGO content.

A new Season is upon us and with it comes excitement, anticipation, and hype, right? You won’t see any of that if you take a look at the feeds of some of the game’s biggest content creators. With claims flying all over the place that the game is dead and that new features are dull, some think the game is in a rut. Others however, are as engaged as ever with a full slate of daily activities filling the gameplay. It is an interesting topic and there are plenty of takes flying around.

With the introduction of Timeless Travels, we have plenty to unpack. From a packed December to some longer term excitement, things already feel better than Adventures Abound. We catch up with the Season opening Hisuian Samurott Raid Day and the unfortunate server issues that happened early on. While not a good look, the event did bring Trainers out to play. We also saw a nice harmony between local and remote Raiders.

Mateo has proven to be a polarizing character. With Twitter seeming to think that Routes and the gift exchange are just another desperate attempt to keep us busy. Some however, like Ken, think that while Routes themselves aren’t a game changing feature, they are an important ingredient to the overall recipe of what can make for a fun outing. It may take a while for Trainers to understand how the local gameplay of today differs greatly from the local gameplay of 2020.

The Catch Mastery event is looking strong and we have the Adamant TIme Event following after that. With a December full of events, it seems off to us that some of the bigger content creators are in a slump. We take a look at Mystic7 and FleeceKing videos and dissect their perspectives about the current state of the game. While they may make some valid points, they are both missing a crucial component in their mix. THE EXPERIENCE. Check out or discussion of what we think of the current sentiment floating around lately.

Is it just us or does it not feel like the latest Season of Pokémon GO is coming to a close? As we enter the final week of Adventures Abound, the theme of the Season and the overall narrative seem to not be a part of the current zeitgeist. Niantic has delivered an onslaught of events and multiple new, game defining updates, but in terms of narrative we haven’t had much. It poses the question of does Pokémon GO even need a story at all? Do players actually have any idea what is going on with the narrative or is it all just about catching everything they see?

We recap the last week of gameplay including Mareep Community Day, which paired very nicely with the Party Up Event. Players that got together in person for Community Day were able to play in parties and wrap up their Timed and Special Research for Party Up. Some even used the time to complete some Routes. One thing is for certain, IRL Pokémon GO is alive and well, and Niantic has the numbers to prove it.

While we covered the financial impact that a GO Fest Event can bring to a region last week, this episode we talk about the attendance across those events. With 180,000 Trainers playing in those events, it proves that those saying the game is dead are simply blowing smoke. With new and creative events like the Akasuka Route in Japan, the future is looking strong. We think that sponsored routes may just be the secret sauce that takes this game to a new level. It brings a dynamic that blends travel, entertainment, art, and nature. Asakusa may be on to something.

The Black Friday Pokécoin Sale has the Community split, with some simply thinking this is a desperate attempt by Niantic to grab our money. Consistent spenders on the game are all smiles as their hard earned money that they have budgeted towards the game, will get them a little bit more this week. A win-win for those that consume items.

Finally we wrap up with a Terrakion Raid Guide and Battle Party, and put together our teams that we will be bringing out. Terrakion is definitely the most popular of the Swords of Justice, and for good reason. For those that know the lore, this may be a fun time to bring out Keldeo to play.

With Adventures Abound closing out this week, how did this Season perform for your play and entertainment styles?

There have been plenty of Pokémon in fashion this week, and the Shiny chase is on.We had a ton of costume Shinies to look out for which kept the grinders busy, and a really cool Dragonite in Raids for that camp to go after. With Fashion Week wrapping up, we will see a few days worth of vanilla spawns to hold us over to Party Up!

Which is the most Niantic event ever. A Party Event that doesn’t require or even motivate you to join a Party. We aren’t quite sure where Niantic wants this event to go, but it looks like it will simply be an encounter shift for a few days.

If you log in to the game using the Pokémon Trainer Club then you are going to want to take some precautions to ensure you can maintain account access. An update to the login could give some Trainers an issue, so make sure you have your alternate login methods linked.

The Wayfarer AMAs are coming up and hopefully we get some clarifications about the Ladder Policy to help put some of the concerns to bed. Will the Twitter Mob have their voice heard? We will have to wait and see what questions end up making it through to the release.

A ban wave swept through, impacting some of the game’s most hardcore grinders. GO Hub gets the scoop on how it is tied to the Fast Catch exploit. Any way you look at it, it isn’t a good look. Niantic didn’t give much info besides saying that it would be resolved quickly.

We end with a discussion around a Mystic7 Tweet where he proclaims the game dead. We share our hot takes and discuss what we think may be happening in the world of PGO Content. Is it the game that is causing viewership to decline, or is it the content failing to give the modern PGO audience what they want?

As we approach the end of the season, the amount of events is still packing the calendar. The Festival of Lights brought on some fun spawns and visuals, and Mega Garchomp Raid Day brought Trainers outside for another fun day of IRL gameplay. We have noticed a ton of positive Community Ambassador posts showing off incredible turnouts and great vibes, but that stop the Twitter mob from being completely offended. When Ken posts about how he thinks the Remote Raid Pass limit was a great thing, the mob went on the attack, or should we say, felt attacked. We dig into how many on Twitter are still feeling bent about the RRP changes and the virtue signalers are back out in force.

There is plenty of Community Day news this week with Niantic sharing the next season’s save the dates, as well as announcing Mareep as our Community Day Classic featured Pokémon. As we approach the Winter months here in the North East, it may take a strong showing from Niantic to keep Trainers going outside in the cold to play IRL events.

Fashion Week is the next event on the calendar and it brings Shiny Gothita, new costume Pokémon, and a ton of other shiny chases to check. Fashionable Dragonite may become a fan favorite, but there are nearly a dozen additional costumed Pokémon to pick from. While Ken enjoys the hunt, we all know how Adam really feels about events like this.

Finally we wrap up with some miscellaneous news including the expansion of the Pokémon GO Challenge to Europe, a McDonald's sponsorship in Canada, and a tease about the Lured Up Gym Leader Challenge in our Discord. Enjoy this week’s episode!

What’s this, what’s this? Two incredible weeks of PGO Gameplay with more on the way! It’s been a great time to play Pokémon GO with the Halloween Events and a Team GO Rocket Takeover keeping Trainers really busy. From new Pokémon to unique shiny chases, there is a bit of something for everyone.

Most of the action this week is actually from the Community and not from the game. We have an emerging platform for PvP with Dracoviz, which is looking very strong and could be the next place that Battlers call home. It will be interesting to see if Zygarden manages to get anything going before Dracoviz really takes off.

Twitter is still making Wayfarer out to be a bad place, with our favorite nay-sayer, JRE Seawolf at the center of it. We talk about how he shares info that supports his narrative, but doesn’t paint a complete picture of what is going on. Trainers need to accept that they will be held accountable for their actions, even if the actions in question were a long time ago. Also, everyone should remember that if your offense is significant, Niantic may jump right to a 30 or 90 day suspension right out of the gate.

November and the Festival of Lights are on the way, but we first put together a Raid Guide and Battle Party for Shadow Lugia, which will be around on the weekends for a few weeks. Whether you decide to bring a full party of Tyranitars, or mix it up completely, there are a bunch of ways you can approach Shadow Lugia!

Adam is back on US soil! We learn about his first ever trip abroad and what it was like to Train at the City Safari in Barcelona! From airport to airport and park to city, there are plenty of stories to share. Huge shout out to Kriket23 for helping Adam guide himself through Spain!

For the rest of us, the week included the TIcket of Treats, Timburr Community Day, and Part 1 of the Halloween event. With the end of October looking to be incredible, this month has taken many by surprise. We hope you like costume Pokémon though, because they are coming in hot and fast this month. If you aren’t into costumes, the Shiny Zorua chase should be enough to keep you busy!

The big news of the week however comes with the release of GO Party, a feature that came out of nowhere and looks like a home run on paper. We will need some time behind the wheel before having a conclusive take, but our hot takes have us split. With rewards that seem lackluster at first but add up quick, we will see if it is enough to keep Trainers engaged with the feature.

We expound on GO Party with an installment of Poke the Bear, where we ask how Twitter feels about GO Party being released (with bugs) while existing features like Showcases and Routes still have their own set of bugs. Can issues with the feature be overlooked, or is the known issue list simply keep growing and growing.

While Adam is out living his best life at the City Safari n Barcelona, the show must go on! This week, Lane from Good Morning Johto fills the second chair! Make sure you follow Lane and his show for a unique spin on Pokémon GO podcast coverage!

With the Adventures Abound in full swing, the pacing of events continues to deliver multiple events per week. The Ticket of Treats brings us the second Timed Research, which reopens the conversation of the Battle Pass model. We discuss what it would take to make the Battle Pass model work, and if a narrative would be required to keep the progression going.

October events are keeping Trainers engaged with a solid rollout of bonuses, new Pokémon, and new Shinies. From diverse encounter pools to solo Legendary Raid battles, there is a bit of everything for Trainers to dig into. The Harvest Festival is getting thumbs up all around, with Timburr Community Day adding some spice to the mix. The fan favorite Halloween event looks exceptionally strong, with more still to come before the end of the month.

We wrap things up with discussing the public details about the GO Stadium turmoil, now that statements have been released from the main parties involved. With JRHonda setting himself up for harsh criticism by jumping on a Twitch interview, there seems to be more fuel being added to the fire daily. More and more people are turning their back on GO Stadium, which opens the door for other players to come in to grab some of their PvP market share. While we don’t like to see any human go through the ringer, sometimes sympathy is hard to come by when the ringer is self-inflicted.
