This is not essential listening for Ep259, but if you're interested, we'll be reading the Instructions of Execution as issued by the Secretary of State before each hanging.

This is Extra Mile for Ep259. It's not essential listening, it's just a bit of fun with a quiz, a sketch, some nonsense and some details about the case which may not have made it into the episode. If you don't like it, you don't have to listen to it.

In the evening of Friday 1st April 1949, in the top floor flat at 32 Davisville Road in Shepherd’s Bush, W12, 38-year-old wife Mary Cooper was found murdered under her bed by her 14-year-old daughter. It seemed like an ordinary domestic, but a much darker secret was hidden behind those doors, one which would lead to this murder.

On 26th December 1994, at 1pm, the body of 27-year-old Dr Joan Francisco was found in her basement flat at 13 Ordnance Hill. With the prime suspect being her ex-boyfriend, his conviction should have been imminent. Only this isn’t just a story about obsession, this is the tale of a family’s five-year battle for justice, with the evidence being missed owing to a fatal mistake.

This is Extra Mile, a companion piece of Ep257: "Passionately Fond of Sonia". I would strongly suggest you listen to that first, otherwise none of these bits will make sense. Mx

Every so often, I'll roll out a little secret which didn't make it into the episode and I'll pop it here. If you like it, great, but it's not essential for the story.

On Tuesday 31st May 1932, in a place she had dubbed ‘The Love Hut’, although the evidence stated that (in a drunk and emotional state) Elvira shot her lover to death, the circumstances of the murder was so dubious - that the truth was easily whitewashed by an adoring press who were so besotted by this beautiful but vapid rich kid - that they made her the only victim, and him the absolute culprit.

On Saturday 24th January 1976 at 1:30pm, in their second floor flat at 41 St Olaf’s Road in Fulham, John Park brutally murdered his heavily pregnant wife. In an act of rage which was unusual for such a calm and placid man, he would claim he murdered her over money she had given to her daughter. But was there more to this?

On Monday 15th January 1945 at 12:15am, a Dutch seaman called Jan Pureveen was murdered at Fred White’s coffee stall on Euston Road. It was a brutal and unprovoked attack which came out of nowhere, and yet, it was both expected and unexpected, as the killer was already known to the police as ‘The Creeper’.

On the evening of Wednesday 11th November 1987, two orthodox Sikhs (Rajinder Singh Batth and Mangit Singh Sunder) sat in the sports hall of Dormers Wells High School in Southall, listening to the sermons of (some say) ‘self-proclaimed’ Guru Darshan Das. It would become one of Britain rare school shootings, and yet, unlike Dunblane, it has almost been forgotten.
