This Podcast explores how in Buddhism it is explained that Karma ripens as an effect in four different ways: - the effect of maturation
- the effect in agreement with the cause or of compatibility
- the cumulative effect
- the cumulative effect of ripening

This Podcast explores the three general rules regarding the ripening of Karma.
The first is the certainty of the result, The second rule of ripening is the increase of result, the third is that if one has not committed a certain action, one will not experience its results even if the secondary circumstances present themselves.

In the previous Podcast we learned how through the unscrupulous and unethical use of the Principle of mental Gender by combining will power and desire force (the two aspects of Mind‘s manifesting potentiality) all the phenomena of mental influence, fascinations, suggestions, hypnotism, and en masse manipulation can be achieved to a certain degree. This Podcast explores just a few simple but effective methods to protect oneself in certain circumstances.

This Podcast explores the power of concentration and presence of mind. A general definition of concentration would be ‘to bring to a center’. Concentration is the undisturbed power of subjective attention over an object of consciousness; therefore concentration is the domain and the best of mind’s tools. Once mastered, concentration is called presence of mind and can also serve the purpose of focusing the Will of the Mind of Pure Being (the potentiality or energy of Timeless Pure Being) for a specific purpose.

This Podcast explores ‘the method of prayer’ which is one of the most powerful and skillful method, especially when nothing else works. One must understand that the Mind of Pure Being does not change its ‘modus operandi’ in order to comply to one’s requests, nor does it make exception, but it does function through well-defined Laws, and these Laws can be placed into operation, consciously or unconsciously, by accident or design and especially by prayer.

This Podcast explores the phenomena of mental suggestion according to the Hermetic set of teachings. In the phenomena of mental induction and suggestion, a combination of will power and desire force, the two aspects of Mind‘s manifesting power, may be used.
Will power may be used to either awaken the desire force in another person or to subjugate the other person’s will. Likewise desire force can either be used to induce a similar desire in another person or to charm and captivate the other person’s will.

Even though Timeless Mind itself is beyond any Gender, the Hermetic teachings say that Mind’s offspring, in the form of consciousness operates through the Principle of Gender. According to the Principle of mental Gender, Mind’s potentiality of manifestation within consciousness operates on the basis of a masculine aspect which for convenience we can call the ‘I’ and a feminine aspect which for convenience we can call the ‘Me’ operating in unison. According to this principle, the feminine ‘Me’ is the part of consciousness in which thoughts, ideas, emotions, feelings, desires and intuitions may be produced. The masculine ‘I’ on the other hand is able to ‘will’ the feminine ‘Me’ aspect giving it a kind of direction and purpose and it is also able to stand aside and witness the mental creations. both male and female sentient beings operate through both mental genders and neither of them can function without the other counterpart.

“Gender is in everything; everything has its Masculine and Feminine Principles; Gender manifests on all planes.” The Kybalion
Mind, the potentiality of Pure Being, is beyond any dualism of Gender, therefore God, Mind, Pure Being or Enlightened Beings are also completely beyond Gender, nonetheless Mind’s Timeless spontaneous manifestations appear and manifest according to the Principle of Gender. This Hermetic Principle states that there is gender manifested in everything, the masculine and feminine principles are present and active in all phases of the manifestation of the play of Reality and on every plane of phenomenal existence.

The Principle of Polarity in relation to consciousness, states that contrasting and opposing feelings and emotions are in reality opposite poles of the same thing, pure energy manifestation, and that the Principle of Rhythm is always in operation. Now we will learn that by changing the polarity of any given emotion or by rising above it in the free and Timeless state of Pure Being we can work and eventually master the Principle of Polarity and Rhythm.

Time and space are relative concepts as there is no such thing as time to be found somewhere in space, only a personal relative experience of it. Creation is timeless but the personal experience of a portion of creation is in time and space. Just like the objects reflected on a mirror’s surface do not appear in space and time but are contained evenly on its surface, all of Mind’s potentiality of manifestations are in their true nature completely beyond the measure of time and space but appear as they do in the Timeless Expanse of the pure ‘Now’ of Mind as illusory events within space and time. Enlightened experience of Reality is beyond time and space but has free and spontaneous access to what is manifested in time and space, transcendent and immanent at the same time.

The word ‘Samsara’, literally meaning ‘continuous flow’ or ‘perpetual wander’, is the repeating cycle of birth, life, death and rebirth found, although expressed in different ways, within Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Tibetan Bön, Jainism, and to some extent in Sikhism. The followers of the Kabala also believe in the reincarnation of souls (Gilgul), and in ancient Greece, Orphism, Pythagoras, Plato and Socrates spoke about the ‘metempsychosis’ or the transmigration of souls. Early Christians believed in the transmigration of souls before the second council of Constantinople in A.D. 553, declared it a heresy.

Since Rhythm compensates we can observe that the measure of a short swing in one direction, is compensated or counterbalanced by short swing in the opposite direction, while a long one invariably means a long swing in the opposite direction. Everything, in fact, is set off and offset by other things; there is always a check and a countercheck in every manifestation, on every plane of existence. For example, the regular and uniform movement of the planets around the sun is made possible only through the operation of the counterbalancing forces of centrifugal and centripetal gravity, the former manifesting in the tendency of the planet to fly from the central point, and the latter manifesting in the tendency of the planet to move toward the central point, the sun.

The Principle of Rhythm in Buddhism is expressed by the concept of ‘impermanence’ and also by the ultimate state of Enlightenment of a ‘fully Awakened One’. In Buddhism, in His first teaching after His Enlightenment, the Buddha laid out the proposition of the Four Noble Truths. One of these four Truths is the truth of suffering which is connected to impermanence in that ‘all compounded things are impermanent’. Here compounded means all that is not indivisible, in other words all that can be known in terms of subject and object is impermanent.

“Everything flows, out and in; everything has its tides; all things rise and fall; the pendulum-swing manifests in everything; the measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left; rhythm compensates.” The Kybalion
This Principle embodies the truth that everything in the physical, mental and spiritual dimensional planes express itself in rhythm from action to reaction, from activity to inactivity with a to-and-from movement, a flow and inflow, out and in, a swing forward and backward, an advance and a retreat, a rising and a sinking, a giving and a receiving. The very essence of the play of Reality itself is always a spontaneous outpouring and an in drawing of energy and manifestation. The Principle of Rhythm or Cyclicity is connected to the Principle of Polarity described in the previous chapter and it usually manifests between the two poles described therein. The swing of Rhythm is not necessarily to the extreme poles, but simply toward first one pole and then the opposite one in varying levels and degrees.

In Tantric Buddhism, within the highest form of Tantra, we find the Principle of Polarity (and Vibration) expressed in the transformation of the five types of ‘impure’ emotions (anger, greed and attachment, dullness, envy and pride) which bind sentient beings to endless rebirth in Samsara, into the five aspects of ‘pure’ Wisdom characteristic of Nirvana, or Awakened Awareness. This is achieved by employing various Enlightened Deities as symbols of the pure and non-dual manifestation of the energy of Reality which, when not recognized and therefore experienced dualistically within the frame of subject and object, acts as a fuel for the five types of disturbing emotions.

In Mahayana Buddhism, in one of the key texts of the Buddhist Canon, called the ‘Prajna Paramita Hridaya’ Sutra, (which literally means ‘The Heart of the Perfection of Transcendent Wisdom’) commonly known as the ‘Heart Sutra’ we find one of the most important statement in regard to Reality, a paradox in which the Principle of Polarity or Opposites is transcended in the experience of Perfection of Wisdom, the non-dual Reality of Pure Being. From the Heart Sutra (translation by Edward Conze) we read:
“Here, Sariputra, form is emptiness and the very emptiness is form; emptiness does not differ from form, form does not differ from emptiness; whatever is form, that is emptiness, whatever is emptiness, that is form, the same is true of feelings, perceptions, impulses and consciousness”.

“Everything is dual, everything has poles, everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same, opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled.” The Kybalion
The Principle of Polarity or Law of Opposites states that the play of Reality manifests always two sides, or two poles and the difference between these two seemingly diametrically opposed poles is merely a matter of degree. This principle implies that thesis and anti-thesis are identical in nature, but different in degree, that every truth is half-false and everything ‘is and isn't’, at the same time.

Buddhist cosmology shares many similarities with Hindu cosmology in terms of cycles of time and type of beings inhabiting the planes of existence, although the names and details can vary in each tradition. Buddhist cosmology can be divided into three related branches: spatial cosmology, which describes the arrangement of the various dimensions in a vertical pattern and is related to the beings inhabiting a specific universe; horizontal cosmology which describes how these different dimensions are grouped in the universe, and temporal cosmology, which describes how the various universes come into existence, remain and how they pass away. In spatial cosmology we find an explanation of three planes of existence in ascending orders which are the dimensions of different types of beings according to the Law of Cause and Effect and the Law of Vibration.

The Hermetic tradition speaks of three different planes or dimensions of Reality:
I. The great physical planes.
II. The great mental planes.
III. The great spiritual planes.
Each of these planes is divided into seven sub divisions according to their rates of vibration and the Law of Cause and Effect. The Hermetic teachings regards matter as a form of energy, that is, energy at a low rate of vibration of a certain kind, therefore the seven physical planes include three planes of physical matter and three of energy which ranges from the physical energy (heat, light, magnetism, electricity, and gravity or attraction) to the more spiritual energy used by spiritually developed beings and which may be considered ‘divine or miraculous power’.
