We talked with Ryan Spears, Paul Del Gesso, and Kristie Ferriso who let us in on the high stakes, down to the wire editing process involved in bringing the show to life each week. Ryan was part of the team responsible for the Emmy nominated "I'm Just Pete" (music video), and has also won two emmys for SNL’s Murder Show (Segment), and SNL’s HBO Mario Kart Trailer (Segment), while Paul and Katie worked on the Emmy nominated "Bowen's straight" (Sketch) among countless other sketches the three of them have been involved in creating. Today, we’re hanging out with Vinny Alfano, who is young, but mighty. He’s the sound designer and re-recording mixer behind the comedy specials from all your favorite comedians like liza Shlesinger, Louis C.K., and Mike Birbiglia. He was Grammy-nominated for his work with Sarah Silverman on her special Someone You Love. We talk about how he took advantage of Netflix’s 5.1 surround mix to fully immerse viewers in Birbiglia’s comedy special. With microphones placed all around the Vivian Beaumont Theater at New York City’s Lincoln Center, to ensure the recorded special was just as moving as the live experience. He also did sound for In The Heights. We talk about the challenges to do post on that musical during the height of the pandemic. He’s a humble and chill dude, a New York native, and even did sound for this episode of the podcast. It’s by far the best sounding episode so far. Enjoy!
