Samhain is Gaelic festival on 1 November marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter or the "darker half" of the year. According to Irish mythology, Samhain (like Bealtaine) was a time when the 'doorways' to the Otherworld opened, allowing supernatural beings and the souls of the dead to come into our world; while Bealtaine was a summer festival for the living, Samhain "was essentially a festival for the dead".
We explore this and some spooky tales with our guest Seán Clancy who has many titles including Accredited Seanachaí (traditional Gaelic storyteller/ historian), Irish Pagan, Druid, ITGA Tour Guide, The Order of Bards, Ovates & Druids (OBOD) member, Organic Farmer, Hill of Uisneach Guide, Photographer for fun, Chartered Engineer with Westmeath Councuil and most importantly a Dad & Husband.

Aidan feels like he is melting away in the Vienna sunshine and he is using the extreme heat as a motivation to stay inside and get some work done on his laptop. This led us into a discussion about motivation, inspiration what it all means. Stephen believes motivation doesn't exist and Aidan feels actions result from discipline and consistency. There is nothing sexy about either of those but worth having a conversation about them.
Motivation is not the cause of action, it is the result. “Inspiration is for amateurs; the rest of us just show up and get to work.” – Chuck Close
Consider asking yourself or others:
What have you been putting off by waiting to be motivated? What can you do to "self-motivate" instead?Grab yourself a brew and join in the conversation with someone else.

I Ain't Worried (is a banger of a tune for a start) is one of those episodes where the lads take a topic and go on tangents here and there trying to figure out why they often worry, where it gets them and what it prevents them from achieving at times. They discuss one of their favourite quotes “Don't think. Just do,” and how such a simple phrase from a Tom Cruise film can profoundly impact making decisions both big and small. Are we obsessed with productivity and making the "right" decision.

"No man ever steps into the same river twice, for it's not the same river, and he's not the same man." - Heraclitus
Almost three years ago, we started the Soul Brew Podcast. It was shortly after a period when the entire world came to a standstill due to COVID-19.
A time that forced us to reevaluate many things, including our life choices. Around that time we began to openly explore where we were in life. Stephen, who had just completed his travels, was a very different man back then. In this podcast, we talk about life's changes, how it's okay to change opinions, and, to some degree, how it's necessary for growth. If we cling to the same narrative, we refuse to evolve, grow, and develop. This episode recaps Stephen's growth, development, and choices in life to date. It's a great conversation to have with friends and family to reflect on how much you've grown and developed over the past years. What has happened in your life since COVID-19?

Soul Brew is about Aidan and Stephen constantly and consistently trying to figure things out and inviting others on the journey. They read an email circulated by Chris Williamson about how there are two types of people; those who don’t know how to improve their lives, and those who don’t know when to stop. They discuss in-depth and take many tangents discussing the current conflict in Gaza, Social Media and much more.

Our first live episode was recorded in the new Creeslough Community Hub and we hosted an amazing guest in front of a live audience. Lucy O Hagan from Wild Awake chatted to us about becoming one with nature, meditation, foraging, rights of passage, the wilderness and so much more. Lucy has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the outdoors and we hope you learn something from what we spoke about during this recording.
Live music is from the brilliant Ciarzo. Check him out on Spotify.

Aidan and Stephen are together recording for the first time in a while. Using Spotify Wrapped as an influence they discuss their top 5 moments of 2023 and have some suggested conversation starters when visiting family and friends this festive season.
12 questions to ask to get the craic going and to have good conversations this Christmas - 1. Which of your current values would be different if you were raised by different parents? 2. What annoys you about other people that you sometimes do yourself? 3. What was the last lie you told and would you tell it again? 4. What did you buy recently that you now regret? 5. What was true a generation ago that no longer is, and who is clinging to that old truth? 6. Is cereal soup? 7. What would you choose as the title of your memoir? 8. If your family had a theme song what would it be? 9. What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you this year? 10. What’s one thing that came good for you this year? 11. In what ways have you yet to accept the fact of who you are, and you are not the person you ought to be 12. What’s the craziest thing you’ve done this year?

Dr Sharon Lambert is a lecturer in the School of Applied Psychology in UCC. Sharon’s research interests revolve primarily around inclusion psychology/inclusion health in the areas of mental health, substance dependence, homelessness and trauma and consequent impacts on service design and delivery and is regularly published in peer-reviewed journals and delivers seminars.
We discussed how podcasting has made mental health and wellbeing information more accessible and understandable for listeners and a new study has proved that they can in fact improve mental health literacy. The paper, published by Dr Lambert and Naoise Ó Caoilte from UCC, shows that access to information through podcasts has decreased stigma and increased help-seeking amongst listeners. We also talk about topics including stress, mental health, mens mental health, trauma and looking at change on the individual and societal level.

Stephen reveals his very serious morning routine which results in the lads talking about the importance of what we eat, how much we sleep and how we relax. Originally this episode was to be called "Eat Sleep Lift Repeat" and focus on how important each are for health and the discussion ended up focusing on relaxation for health because its an area Aidan and Stephen feel like they need to work on.

Man's Search for Meaning is one of those books constantly suggested as a "must-read". Aidan and Stephen have reread the book lately and discussed some of their key findings and thoughts from it.
In Man's Search for Meaning, Victor E. Frankl describes his lessons learned as a holocaust survivor, and how his experiences shaped his understanding of meaning. The will to meaning, his iconic Logotherapy, and the true meaning of life are all masterfully explained by Frankl.
