Allen McDuffie and Jeff Yashinsky join Sports ‘N Torts for Episode 123. Jeff and Allen were my first bosses at my first law firm job after Law School at the Progressive In-House Law Firm. Jeff, along with our friend Tara Parker, were the ones who interviewed me while I was a 2nd year law student at UGA and somehow I convinced them to offer me a job. We had a great time reminiscing about all working together and we picked up like we had never left off. Whatever success I may have had as a lawyer – I owe a lot of it to these guys.

This was really fun. Sports ‘N Torts joined up with Texas lawyers Pete Taaffe, Kyle Herbert and Bill Ogden who host The Dirty Verdict podcast out of Houston on this collaboration episode. These guys are some of the best in business in handling, litigating and mediating cases in Texas. Our two podcasts joined together for a special preview episode of the October 19, 2024 University of Georgia v. University of Texas game. Randy Edwards from Cochran & Edwards joins us for episode 117 of Sports ‘N Torts. Randy is a trial lawyer in Atlanta, GA who handles cases in Business Litigation, RICO, Personal Injury/Wrongful Death and Insurance Coverage/Bad Faith. Prior to attending Law School and becoming a lawyer, Randy was a 4 year letterman and 3 year starter as a defensive lineman for the University of Alabama where he played for legendary Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant and was named permanent captain by his Alabama teammates. Randy went on to play 4 years for the Seattle Seahawks of the NFL. He was primarily a “nickel” pass-rusher for the Seahawks, with his best year being 1985 when he had 10.5 QB sacks.
It was fascinating to hear Randy talk about playing big time college football at Alabama. Randy tells the story of being recruited by Bear Bryant and what it was like playing for the legendary coach. As you can imagine Randy has great stories and great memories he still shares with his teammates. We then discuss how Randy ended up in Seattle playing for the Seahawks. Randy talked about NFL life and what it was like to play in the Kingdome and registering a sack in front of tens of thousands of screaming fans. Randy tells a great story about punching John Elway in the face.
Randy was in Tuscaloosa last Saturday night so we get his recap of the epic UGA-Alabama game. Randy talks about how he watches games and what he looks for. We talk about the new world of college football, Alabama’s post Saban world and the new playoff system.
In terms of legal talk, Randy is accomplished litigator who handles a wide range of cases including RICO (which he explains how those cases work). Randy also handles cases against Georgia Department of Transportation for roadway issues that lead to wrecks. We discuss how football prepared him for being a lawyer and his work in the courtroom. We learn about Randy’s transition from big firm lawyer to a small firm he now runs with his childhood best friend.

Sports ‘N Torts is live on the road in Ireland for a special episode of the podcast. Jason Mullen, one of Josh’s oldest and best friends since 1st grade joins the podcast from their golf trip in Ireland where Josh, Jason, Jason’s brother John and 5 other guys are celebrating the life of Jason’s dad – Coach John. Coach John passed away a few years ago and one of his last wishes was asking his sons to spread his ashes on the 1oth hole at a golf course in Ireland called Lahinch. So they planned the trip and here we are – currently making our way playing courses from Dublin to Lahinch.

Seth Eisenberg joins us as this weeks guest on Sports ‘N Torts. Seth is the founder of The Eisenberg Firm in Atlanta, GA. After a short time working for insurance companies and seeking more significant opportunity in high-profile cases, Seth moved to the City of Atlanta Department of Law where he began his employment as an Assistant City Attorney. He was quickly promoted to a Senior Attorney position and saved the City of Atlanta over $50 million dollars in damages as a result of his courtroom success. Seth experienced noteworthy victories in the state and federal trial and appellate courts; litigating cases against the government arising out of premises liability, motor vehicle accident, bicycle accident, slip and fall, police pursuit, nuisance, breach of contract and pension class action. Seth then used these experiences to open up his own firm specializing in these same government type cases where every day he litigates claims against cities, counties and the state of Georgia. Peter A. Law joins Sports ‘N Torts for Season 4 Episode 3. Pete is the senior principal of Law & Moran a 5 lawyer trial firm dedicated to the representation of individuals who have suffered injuries and death due to the negligence of others.
