Another year of classic 2000s pop music begins on the podcast where every week we are reliving the 40 biggest selling singles of this week 40 years ago. It's 2005, and things are about to change in a big way as the download charts get added to the main chart.
Before that happens, however, we are in for some very weird, but very fascinating, top 40s. Where else would you see Elvis Presley, fully dead since 1977, battling it out with a 20-year-old metal song, a new track from 80s synth legends Erasure, a catchy piece of Eurotrance, an X Factor winner as well as new tracks from Kasabian and the Scissor Sisters, both desperate to get their second top 10 hits. Will they do it, and who will get the 999th UK number one.
Find out on another episode of The 2000s Chart Show as we count down, review and reveal the fascinating stories behind the biggest songs from this week in 2005. In this week's episode, we're talking about the following songs:
3rd Wish - Obsession (Si Es Amor)

It's time to get cheeky cheeky for the last time as the Cheeky Girls take their last bow on the UK top 40. Elsewhere in the pop music landscape, Jentina and Beverley Knight are flopping hard, Ashlee Simpson is getting humiliated on live TV and The Streets and Super Furry Animals are trying to see what they can get away with when it comes to drugs and swearing on the charts.

To all those people who say "OK, but why isn't there a straight pride"...here it is. This episode is for you. For some reason, on this week 20 years ago the music industry conspired to get every middle-aged man on their rosters to release music all in the same week, with only Alacazar left to offer any sort of gay counterpoint.
But it's still a great episode of the podcast reliving the pop music of the 2000s one UK top 40 singles chart at a time, with answers to the following questions:
Which Britpop star went to prison for threatening to chop an air hostess' hands off?Which eccentric 60s legend once bought 8 tonnes of sand?Which dance icon lived next door to Paul McCartney (who forced him to leave the country)?Which indie band started a fight with the entire town of Worthing? How many fun facts about Muse is too many? All that plus a lorra lorra laughs and tunes from Alcazar, Biffy Clyro, Brian Wilson, Donny Osmond, Fatboy Slim, Groove Armada, Ian Brown, Mark Knopfler, Muse, The Ordinary Boys and Paul McCartney

Let's go, eskimo...Girls Aloud are back with Love Machine, a song that the band hated. And they're not the only ones who despise their own songs this week, as Joss Stone and Eric Prydz have also had very few words to say about their tracks either...
Also on this week's edition of the 2000s pop music podcast that's reliving the top 40 singles chart from this week years ago:
Which singer went to prison for manslaughter and then just a few months later got amnesia from a car accident? Why is there huge controversy in the music industry about the song Call on Me (apart from that v. thrusty music video)?Which band's name is nearly an anagram of 'gay nerd'?Why were the 2005 Grammys refuse to give awards to anyone who was actually relevant? How did I deal with the break-up of my first (and only) heterosexual relationship?Which Irish legend told Jim from The Corrs that he needed to "get a life"?Why did everyone in 2004 know Johnny Borrell from Razorlight's phone number? All that plus the usual pop music nostalgia, '00s trivia and new to 2004 tunes from Annie, Beastie Boys, Bryan Adams, Cassidy, The Corrs, Dido, Eric Prydz, Girls Aloud, Green Day, Interpol, Joss Stone, Razorlight, Status Quo, Thirteen Senses and The 22-20s.
