A Note from James:
"That was insane. Kevin Shipp, 17 years with the CIA, then, he had some wild experiences that led to him leaving the CIA. He wrote, just published a book that he published without the CIA's permission. It's called Twilight of the Shadow Government. And I got almost scared during this interview that maybe I shouldn't even release this podcast episode. I don't want to say anything. He didn't say anything that was like crazy or off the deep end. I just got scared. And when you listen to the episode or, and read the book, you'll see why. So I'm just going to go right into it. And I'd love to hear your comments. Here it is. Twilight of the Shadow Government about the CIA."

A Note from James:
“Oh my gosh. What a podcast with Naveen Jain. I first had Naveen on in 2014 or 2015, and he remembered it perfectly. That conversation was so fun, I still remember it like it was yesterday. It’s crazy because I’ve done over 1,500 episodes, but that one stuck with me.
Back then, we talked about Moon Express and his journey building rockets to the moon. Now, almost ten years later, Naveen has built several other companies, including Viome, which uses cutting-edge technology to analyze your microbiome and help people live longer healthier lives. Today, we’re talking about his new book, The Youth Formula: Outsmart Your Genes and Unlock the Secrets to Longevity.
At first, I’ll admit, I was tired of hearing about longevity—everyone seems to be saying the same thing—but Naveen has such a unique take on it. We got into everything: from the role of microbes in our health to fecal transplants (yes, really) and how bacteria can influence personality traits. It was fascinating. We even talked about how changing your microbiome could literally alter your personality.
There’s so much in this episode that it’s going to blow your mind. I hope it’s not another ten years before we get Naveen back on the show. I’m definitely going to take him up on some of his suggestions, and maybe I’ll have some results to share in a few months. Here’s Naveen Jain.”
Episode Description:In this episode, James Altucher is joined by serial entrepreneur Naveen Jain to explore the cutting-edge science of longevity, gut health, and human potential. Naveen, the founder of Viome and author of The Youth Formula, dives deep into how the microbiome shapes our health and even our personality. He explains why genes aren’t destiny, how microbes may play a more important role in our health than DNA, and what steps we can take to live longer healthier lives. James and Naveen also discuss the surprising science behind fecal transplants, the future of personalized nutrition, and why finding purpose might be the ultimate key to longevity.
What You’ll Learn:How the microbiome plays a crucial role in your overall health—and might even affect your personality. Why DNA isn’t as important as you think when it comes to disease and longevity. The latest research on fecal transplants and their impact on treating various diseases. How personalized nutrition can help you optimize your health based on your unique biology. The connection between purpose, community, and living a longer life.Timestamped Chapters:[01:30] Introduction: Reconnecting with Naveen Jain after 10 years[02:44] The Youth Formula and Viome: Outsmarting your genes[03:17] Microbiome’s role in health: 99.999% of your body is microbes[04:02] Fecal transplants and personality: Can you inherit personality traits?[06:00] Personalized nutrition: Why “healthy” food isn’t healthy for everyone[12:00] The power of purpose: Why having a reason to live is crucial for longevity[21:32] Changing the microbiome to treat disease: Fecal transplants and immunotherapy[29:24] How microbiomes affect mental health: Serotonin and gut-brain connections[39:51] The role of AI in personalized health recommendations at Viome[46:00] Stress and the sympathetic/parasympathetic modes: Modern stressors vs. ancient survival instincts[48:01] The role of exercise: Why 30-45 minutes of movement is enough[49:00] Sleep and health: The importance of quality over quantity[56:58] Entrepreneurial insights: Why a smooth life isn’t what you want as an entrepreneur[58:07] Long-term vision: How Viome is focused on extending life by improving microbiome health[65:00] Wrap-up: James’s thoughts on the future of health and Naveen’s closing remarksAdditional Resources:The Youth Formula: Outsmart Your Genes and Unlock the Secret to LongevityViome: Learn more about personalized nutrition and microbiome analysis.Naveen Jain's Official Website------------

In this episode, I engage in a detailed discussion on various geopolitical issues, reflecting my optimism even in challenging times. We revisit historical events such as the Great Recession and 9/11 and discuss the current global situation involving tensions between nations, particularly the roles of the U.S., Israel, Iran, Russia, and China in the context of emerging proxy wars. I express concerns about the potential for World War III, influenced by proxy conflicts and the global arms trade.
Throughout, there's an emphasis on the need for strong leadership and innovation in the face of geopolitical challenges.
The conversation features Brandon Webb, a Navy SEAL veteran and military content expert, who explores the complexities of modern warfare and international alliances. The dialogue touches on innovations and economic stability amidst ongoing global conflicts, stressing the importance of leadership in averting potential wars.

A Note from James:
Oh my gosh, every time, this is the second time I've talked to Gladys McGarey. Last year she was 102 years old, this year she's 103 years old. She wrote a book, The Well Lived Life: A 102-Year-Old Doctor's Six Secrets to Health and Happiness at Every Age, and it's coming out in paperback. And every time I read this book, I've read it twice now, and I talk to her, I almost feel like crying, and I don't really know why.
It's almost as if she was born with wisdom, but then kept even growing for the next 102 years. Like she drove a Ford Model A car, and now she's talking to me through Zoom on the internet and going on podcasts, writing books.
She was a doctor her whole life. She's been all over the world. She's had so many amazing experiences and also has suffered, of course, much loss. I don't think you're going to live to be that age and not have an incredible amount of loss that you have to learn to move past and still be positive and still live every day to its fullest.
She had, she was riding a tricycle and it threw her off into the street and she broke three ribs. And she's now totally healed and on the podcast. I really look up to this woman a lot.
Here's Gladys McGarey. We have a great conversation about all sorts of things and she's the author of The Well Lived Life.
Episode Description:
In this profound and enlightening conversation, James revisits the remarkable life of Dr. Gladys McGarey, who, at 103 years old, shares her 'six secrets to health and happiness at every age' from her book 'The Well Lived Life'. Reflecting on a life rich with experiences, from caring for patients across the globe to handling personal loss and surviving a recent tricycle accident, Dr. McGarey embodies resilience and wisdom. She discusses the importance of facing challenges, the transformative power of love and life, and how her encounters with notable figures like Milton Erickson shaped her understanding of human potential. Dr. McGarey's perspectives on aging, happiness, and living a meaningful life offer invaluable insights, emphasizing the significance of community, love, and choosing one’s path with intention.

A Note from James:
You know, I first had Chris Voss on in 2016. Out of the 1500+ podcasts I’ve done, his is one of the few where I’ve really followed all the advice. His book Never Split the Difference wasn’t just any negotiating book—it’s a survival guide for life, built from his time as the FBI’s lead hostage negotiator. And trust me, if you’re going to take advice from anyone on negotiation, take it from Chris. His tactics don’t just work in life-or-death situations—they work in everyday business, personal relationships, and everything in between.
Today, Chris is back on the show for the third time. We talk about his documentary Tactical Empathy, available on Amazon Prime, and what makes a truly great negotiator. Trust me, whether you’re selling a company or just trying to ask for a raise, you’re going to want to listen closely to this one. Negotiation isn’t just a skill—it’s a way of life, and you’ll learn why here.

A Note from James:
"Oh my gosh, I am really interested in the history of the presidents of the United States. These are the guys who have not only shaped the country but to some extent have shaped the world. And I say 'these guys' because, let’s be honest, it’s been all men so far. Who knows? There’s a woman running for president now. We’ll see. Kamala Harris, right? Anyway, today I’m excited because we have someone on the show who knows a ton about presidents—Bill O'Reilly. He’s written about some of the most famous, from Kennedy to Reagan to Trump, and his latest book, Confronting the Presidents, gives a no-spin assessment of their legacies. Some of it’s scandalous, honestly, and it was fascinating to chat with Bill about who did what right and who really missed the mark. Here’s a draft of your podcast show notes based on the Wilbur Ross episode:
A Note from James:Wilbur Ross, the man, the myth, the legend. I’m going to be honest, back in 1999, I remember playing a lot of poker at the Mayfair Poker Club in New York City. There was a guy there who worked for Wilbur Ross, who was running huge private equity funds back then. I was jealous because I wanted to work for Wilbur Ross. He’s been a consistent feature in building businesses decade after decade. Most recently, he served as Secretary of Commerce for all four years of the Trump administration.
Now, Wilbur has a new book out called Risks and Returns, about his 55-year career building businesses and his experiences in government. So, I can’t believe I had the chance to talk with him about this incredible journey.
Episode Description:In this episode, James sits down with Wilbur Ross, one of the most influential business minds of our time. From running one of the largest private equity funds to serving as Secretary of Commerce, Ross has been at the epicenter of some of the most significant economic shifts in modern history. Wilbur shares his insights on building businesses, navigating the complexities of government, and his views on the current economic landscape. His new book Risks and Returns offers a unique glimpse into his 55-year career, and this conversation is filled with the kinds of practical insights that entrepreneurs and investors won’t want to miss.
What You’ll Learn:The keys to Wilbur Ross’s long-term success in business and government. How the American bankruptcy system aids in company rehabilitation, rather than liquidation. The challenges and opportunities around rare earth minerals and the semiconductor supply chain. Why labor force participation is crucial to economic growth and reducing inflation. How government fiscal policy and the Federal Reserve's actions contribute to inflation.Timestamped Chapters:[01:30] Introduction to Wilbur Ross’s career and private equity legacy.[04:37] The scope of the Secretary of Commerce's responsibilities.[06:41] The innovations Elon Musk has brought to the space industry.[13:19] Wilbur’s early career challenges and lessons learned.[20:20] Wilbur's approach to distressed industries and investment strategies.[32:15] How the government prints money and its role in inflation.[45:14] The national security threat posed by rare earth minerals and semiconductors.[50:26] Reflections on the Trump administration and Trump's unique approach to foreign policy.Additional Resources:Risks and Returns by Wilbur Ross------------

In this episode, I analyze the surprising decision of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to suspend his presidential campaign and endorse Donald Trump, examining the potential ripple effects on the upcoming election. I address several key questions, such as how this decision could influence voter behavior, affect fundraising dynamics, and reshape election strategies for both Trump and Kamala Harris. I delved into my personal experience with RFK Jr., including his appearance on my podcast where he discussed his contentious views on vaccines, which I initially chose not to release due to their controversial nature and my inability to fact-check them at the time.
Additionally, I provide a historical perspective by examining past elections where third-party candidates acted as spoilers, such as Ralph Nader in the 2000 election and Theodore Roosevelt in the 1912 election. These examples highlight the significant impact a third-party candidate can have on election outcomes. The script further explores RFK Jr.'s speech and newly expressed concerns about chronic diseases, obesity, and ultra-processed foods in the U.S., comparing his claims with available data and trends.
I also address the concept of corporate capture of federal agencies like the FDA, providing examples of former FDA officials who moved to high-level positions in pharmaceutical companies. This discussion includes RFK Jr.'s claim that 50 percent of the FDA's funding comes from pharmaceutical companies through user fees, raising concerns about potential conflicts of interest.
Moreover, I discuss RFK Jr.'s potential future role in a Trump administration, focusing on health policy issues, and his influence on current polling dynamics. I fact-check several of his statements and analyze their implications for American health and longevity, contrasting U.S. life expectancy with that of other countries. Finally, I explore economic policies proposed by Kamala Harris and their potential impact on the U.S. economy, emphasizing RFK Jr.'s emphasis on children's health and the possible consequences of his alignment with Trump for the upcoming election. This detailed analysis aims to provide viewers with a nuanced understanding of RFK Jr.'s endorsement and its broader political and social implications.

A Note from James:
Is our military way behind other countries in terms of using the latest technology with AI, with drones, with biotech, with cybersecurity? I think for many years we know we're behind on supersonic weapons. Are we behind on AI? How did Hamas send undetected a thousand or so paragliders into Israel without Israel detecting it? Are we behind on the AI that's in sensors? What is going on?
So, with the help of Chris Kirchhoff, who wrote the book "Unit X: How the Pentagon and Silicon Valley are Transforming the Future of War," we answer these questions and more.
Episode Description:In this episode, James Altucher hosts Christopher Kirchhoff to explore the critical question: Is the US military lagging behind in technology? They discuss the current technological shortcomings of the military, historical contexts, and how metrics of military power are evolving. Kirchhoff provides an insightful analysis of the Hamas attack as a case study to highlight technological vulnerabilities and failures. The conversation expands to cover the rise of drones, the innovative Replicator Initiative, and the crucial role of AI and machine learning in military operations. Kirchhoff shares his experiences bridging the gap between Silicon Valley and the Pentagon, offering a rare glimpse into the challenges and successes of modern military technology integration.

So, in 2006, I was starting this company called StockPicker. This random guy calls me out of the blue and says, "I want to be CEO of your company. I just sold Golf.com and now I'm figuring out what to do." So we meet for breakfast, and he gave me all these ideas that were great. I stole all of them, built up StockPicker, and sold it. This guy and his wife then started their own company, and eventually sold it for $800 million. We've been friends all along. A Note from James:
"So, you know, just like last week, I wanted to bring a somewhat neutral point of view to all the wild conspiracy theories, allegations, rumors, and actual facts about the Trump assassination attempt. I wanted to comment on the conspiracy theories. What are the facts? What could be our open questions? And just state the truth about what's going on without any BS political bias. The reason there's bias is that right from the beginning, we have an election coming up. Democrats want to win. Republicans want to win. They hate each other. And so, they keep throwing these weird accusations at each other. Some of which may be true, most of which are not.
So now, we have Biden basically dropping out of the race. Kamala taking his place. What's being said? What is this being compared to? What has happened in the past? What are the conspiracies, and what's true and what's not? Someone actually wrote to me and said they were quite upset. I was taking a neutral point of view. I won't say what party this person was from. He thought I should not be neutral. My whole point is not necessarily that I have no feelings about any of these issues. I actually have quite a lot of feelings about the issues. But I am disgusted with how easy it is to see the bias in the headlines, in the accusations, whether it was CNN headlines, MSNBC headlines, or Fox headlines. You could just see how gross the bias was and how just lacking in morals and ethics and even business model the mainstream media has. I just wanted to bring some truth to the discussion.
So let's get right into it."
Episode Description:In this episode of "The James Altucher Show," James tackles the contentious and dramatic events surrounding the 2024 election. Every episode's a cliffhanger, and it's based on one of my favorite novels, Dark Matter, by one of my favorite novelists, Blake Crouch. Blake was also involved in writing the TV show. Blake agreed to come on the podcast, and we talk all things writing, thrillers, Dark Matter, TV, publishing, and he answered all my questions about my favorite show and his writing process. Here's Blake.

A Note from James:
"So during COVID, every single day, I was doing a podcast because I felt there was so much misinformation in the mainstream media. Everyone was saying conspiracy theories, and nobody was getting the math right on how infections like COVID-19 spread. I just wanted to make the information more correct every day, explain what was going on, and try to translate why so much of the mainstream news was wrong—not just about COVID but about the effects on the economy from the shutdowns and the printing of trillions of dollars. Many of the things spoken about then have come to pass.
On COVID, it was more of an attempt to understand what was unknown by the public, what were conspiracy theories, and what was misinformation. I tried to understand from a rational point of view what was going on. Rationality is not part of the mainstream media anymore.
We're seeing this again with the Trump assassination attempt—on every side, by the way. This is not intended to be a political podcast, although I will talk about some of the politics involved. So, I want to go through what happened, some of the conspiracy theories about this kind of stuff in general, some of the history behind this, and perhaps we'll get into some more recent events. This is a news-filled week: just a few days after the assassination attempt is the nomination of JD Vance as the vice presidential candidate for the Republican party. It's a very historic event, and I will comment on that as well. But let's start with this assassination attempt."
Episode Description:James breaks down the recent assassination attempt on former President and presidential candidate Donald Trump. He provides historical context, drawing parallels to past attempts on major political figures, and discusses the ensuing conspiracy theories from all sides of the political spectrum. Listeners will gain a clear, rational perspective on the events and their implications for the upcoming election and beyond.
What You’ll Learn:The historical context of assassination attempts on U.S. political figures. An analysis of conspiracy theories surrounding the Trump assassination attempt. The implications of the assassination attempt on the current political landscape. How media bias and misinformation shape public perception during political crises. The potential impact of this event on the upcoming presidential election and economic markets.Chapters:01:30 - Misinformation During COVID02:12 - Mainstream Media Rationality02:34 - Trump Assassination Attempt: An Overview03:33 - Historical Assassination Attempts: George Wallace and Theodore Roosevelt06:19 - Secret Service Protection Protocols10:15 - Conspiracy Theories Debunked17:02 - Secret Service and Political Bias25:08 - The Fallout: Public and Media Reactions28:08 - Trump's Response: "Fight, Fight, Fight"40:18 - Economic Impact: Bitcoin and Stock Market Reactions42:33 - JD Vance: A New VP Candidate47:26 - Reflections on Political PolarizationAdditional Resources:Hillbilly Elegy by JD VanceSecret Service Protocols and History------------

A Note from James:
You know, it's election season, and guess what? Everybody is annoyed right now. Do you know why? It's not that their opinions are annoying, I could care less, but everybody wants to know your opinions on everything. And you know what? It's a dangerous time right now. You could have opinions about who should be president, you could have opinions about Israel, you could have opinions about Ukraine, and you see people had opinions and like, okay, my friend has this opinion, I have a different opinion.
That's not true anymore. Now people hate you for your opinions, whether you're on the left or the right or whatever. And even worse, nobody ever believes that you're just not interested, that you're neutral. Like I've written for the past 15 years what I think of the presidency. Heck, I've written, I'm even running for president and People say you can't be neutral or not have an opinion on Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
If you go to FEC.gov, I decided I could completely not have an opinion if I ran for president myself, so I filled out all the paperwork and I'm running for president. Officially, not seriously, really, but still to the point where if anyone asked my opinion, I could just say, I don't like either of them because I'm running against them.
So anyway, it's very hard to have difficult conversations, which is why I'm so glad my friend Peter Boghossian wrote a book, How to Have Impossible Conversations. And this is valuable stuff to listen to during election time. Here he is.
Episode Description:
Facts Don't Matter! Over the past year, people are either on one side or another, and they're so into their own beliefs, it's almost impossible to have a reasonable and proper conversation with either side! Do you remember all the impossible conversations that you had with your family or friends? It's always unproductive and doesn't lead anywhere! In this episode, I have Peter Boghossian - an American philosopher, pedagogist, and author - on the podcast to talk about the techniques of talking to people that he described in his book, How to Have Impossible Conversations: A Very Practical Guide.
