David talks through his transition from education to employment and how he developed a foundation of tuition work, allowing him to focus his career entirely on music. He also discussed the need to understand the breadth of the industry and the benefits of cross-pollinating whilst networking, introducing your contacts to one another can be just as fruitful as finding new contacts.Key advice for songwriters, don't pigeonhole yourself within your writing and neglect the other aspects of your work. As a writer, don't shy away from production - key to your success will be adding more strings to your bow, look to diversify and not label yourself.

Laura touches on the need to strike a balance whilst working on your craft and moving towards your career goals. Her key advice is to work hard, accept that whatever job you initially land in is simply part of your journey. Believe in yourself, don't get envious of other people - everyone's journey is different. Reach out to people in the industry, you'll be surprised at how willing they are to help you. This podcast features the journey of BA (Hons) Songwriting graduate Jonathan Milanes, from ICMP to an enviable role at Facebook. Jonathan touches on how to adapt to different environments, the importance of networking and understanding that there's more to life than music.
Jonathan's key advice for those finishing their studies is to 'network with everyone' - you don't know who may be able to help you in the future. Take advantage of all of the opportunities available to you at ICMP - events, gigs, socials, 1:2:1s, etc - they all present opportunities for you to expand your network. But... don't forget to have fun throughout!
Also discussed is the importance of learning new skills outside of music and having a Plan B. Focus on skills that will also support your music and art, but may also open doors. This is exactly how he ended up in his current role at Facebook.
