LeSean Shaw – VP, Empowered AI
It was the promise to not only transform a part of Toledo’s Uptown area, but also to bring change and create career opportunities for Toledo’s underserved communities by teaching people to code. However, the promise, the plan, the future wasn’t to be - as the powers behind the west coast tech hub operation Bitwise were found to be robbing Peter to pay Paul to keep the operation running, duping investors, including ProMedica, out of thousands or even millions of dollars.Since then, the former CEOs of Bitwise were charged with fraud and 18 local employees were furloughed. But now, some of those 18 former employees are determined to keep grinding for this city they love and the field that they know so well. Kate Fineske - Executive Director - National Museum of the Great LakesThe National Museum of the Great Lakes is celebrating 10 years in the Toledo area, but they aren’t growing complacent. CONTINUING THE RENAISSANCE
Toledo’s Director of Economic Development, Brandon Selhorst, wrote an editorial in the Sunday Blade last week touting Toledo momentum. He said a number of major development projects are poised to redefine Toledo landscape and continue an upward trajectory into 2024 and beyond. But how do all Toledoans benefit from these projects? Why will they make a difference?
Chris Nixon - Madeline’s Patisserie
SWEET IN SYLVANIA
The former owner of Element 112 and its head chef - Chris Nixon - have big plans. And the city of Sylvania gave those plans a major jump start this week. A meeting allowed for purchase and prepping of the site at 4815 Holland-Sylvania Rd. It was the site of a former Baptist church. The city purchased it in 2015. But now - they’re in the beginning stages of designing a bakery and shop with the hopes of expansion in just a short period of time. The specialty is croissants - and they have contracts with the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Delta Airlines first class, and the universities of Michigan, Michigan State, and Notre Dame. Mr. Nixon has been pursuing new croissant contracts in Las Vegas.
What is the secret of their success?

We’ll talk with Perryman about the current climate in Toledo politics - and why NOW that we have the final act in the city council “pay-to-play” scandal - how the city council and its politics moves on.
