Well folks, this is how we say goodbye. Kind of. Yes, we are done with David Fincher and we are done with A Podcast Directed by. But good news, we are starting a brand new podcast called Off Screen Death. Link provided below.
Subscribe here!
But before all that, we talk a grimy, almost trashy double feature. We finish off our talk of pincher with The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and Gone Girl. One of these is an underrated Fincher in Dave’s opinion and the other is Gone Girl, obviously an accepted classic
Stay tuned at the end for, among other things, a discussion of our new podcast, a Fincher hot take from Dave, and Mike’s usual female empowerment. Enjoy!

And finally we come to the episode that, for some reason, Dave has been looking forward to. We finally watch THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON!
Your hosts talk about all manner of things. Included here are deciding when to have sex with Brad Pitt, how good-looking Brad Pitt is, Fincher’s willingness to cast unexpected people as tattooed artists, and our own age and regret.
Join us as we go backwards in time, lying to ourselves about how great we once were.

Ok. Deep breath. Time to talk about David Fincher's best movie. We have arrived at ZODIAC. We take it mostly seriously. That is, until Mike compares the killer's notes to Dungeons and Dragons and we basically admit we both would have shot Arthur Leigh Allen in cold blood...
But other than that, this episode is a lovefest for our "prickly asshole" of a director. Listen in as we talk true crime, procedurals, and obsession.

Merry Christmas everybody, we have a gift for you. We will start with David Fincher’s movie from one of the best years in cinema history. If you want more of that year, check out Mike’s other podcast 99 From 99! But. Yes, FIGHT CLUB! A movie that spawned idiots on every side, but still is worthy of actual measured discussion. We talk humor, disturbing line readings from Helena Bonham Carter and just how fucking cool Brad Pitt is, both in this movie and in general. We also discuss whether or not a movie with a twist can hold up 20 years later. So check and see if Dave is once again thinking too much and how this movie would be talked about on Twitter (please, god no).
Next, we move on to the redheaded stepchild of David Fincher’s filmography, PANIC ROOM. Listen as Mike talks about Nicole Kidman’s wingspan (trust us, there is a point to this) and we both laud the performance of Dwight Yoakam as the wildcard of the crew. Listen in as we insult general audiences and congratulate millionaire directors. Which, honestly, is the perfect encapsulation of this entire podcast.

Yes, we have returned to cover David Fincher movies that Mike likes!
First, we take a look at SE7EN, a movie where Fincher finds his muse and Mike finds his idol. Dave, on the other hand, is just concerned about Mr. Pitt's broken arm.
Then we move on to a strange Christmas movie in THE GAME. Here, we find out that Michael Douglas is a pig, but we like him anyway!

Just in time, we are back for a new episode! Mike and Dave talk Fincher's first (that he has disowned) and his latest.
We begin with ALIEN 3 the much derided but also with passionate fans film without a script. Will this just be Dave screaming into the abyss? Maybe. Deal with it. We also determine who gets the blame? Our precious auteur or the goddamn suits.
Then we move to happier topics, with Netflix's MANK. A movie just for film snobs and that's us! We hope you enjoy us talking about Citizen Kane, the strange new world of streaming, and old drunk men in bed!

Well, we have reached the end of Aronofsky's movies. Luckily for you, our expert, Richard L. Newby has returned to educate us one last time. Along with a terrific conversation, Richard will tell us the best, his favorite, and Aronofsky's masterpiece. Will he stick with BLACK SWAN? Or maybe finally give Mickey Rourke a long deserved ovation for the WRESTLER. Hell, maybe he will surprise us all by giving some shine to PI or NOAH! There is only one way to find out. Listen now!

We have finally reached the end of Mike’s almost biblical, self-flagellatory quest through the films of Darren Aronofsky. Sadly for him (and happily for the rest of us), it ends sourly for our intrepid co-host. He has been on the record as not enjoying MOTHER! (Exclamation point included) and this is where the end leaves us. Will Mike have a turn like Dave did on THE FOUNTAIN! Probably not, but you’ll never know unless you listen! Join us as we talk creators (of all kinds), poor Jennifer Lawrence, and the glory (as always) of Michelle Pfeiffer.

We are back to finally have some fun with Aronofsky. Well, Dave has had fun, but Mike gets to relive the glory of a movie that holds the distinction of Mike’s very first podcast appearance, NOAH. We talk the joys of getting drunk on a beach, the terrible acting of “Harry Potter Woman”, and how Aronofsky lets actors loose to just play. Join us as we talk about the surprise hit of an auteur’s career, regardless of film twitters ridiculous response to an action movie about great floods, monsters of rock, and the perils of not having sex. If you know either of us, you probably know that this is just our type of movie!

In this episode, Mike and Dave finally take on the Oscar winning film in Aronofsky's filmography, BLACK SWAN.
Join us as we talk Mike's continued obsession with lesbian film, word of mouth success, and trying not to solely focus on Mila Kunis.

Well, the boys are back to talk more Darren Aronofsky. This time we wax poetic about such topics as Oscar heartbreak and Twitter interventions. I swear this has something to do with the movie we are covering, THE WRESTLER. We also discuss taking 180s on Marvel movies and what is truly the definitive Mickey Rourke performance. Join us as we weirdly laugh a lot talking about this dour movie.

Our podcast on Darren Aronofsky continues. This week, we talk about a movie that somehow we forgot, THE FOUNTAIN. Our two cohosts disagree on the quality of the movie, but definitely agree on both Hugh Jackman and Brad Pitt. If you listen, this strange sentence will be explained. We also discussed whether this is the director's best looking movie, if it needs improvement, and which of us is the true romantic. Listen in as we talk about the fountain of youth and the merits of Aronofsky going big and bold!

Look at us, actually on schedule! We are back to talk about another disturbing work from Aronofsky. This time we look at DARE's wet dream, REQUIEM FOR A DREAM. Everyone says not to watch it more than once, but we're going in. Can we handle a movie with the worst Joker and the Scary Movie guy? Just kidding, we mainly talk about Ellen Burstyn.

Ok, here we go with a new director for Mike and Dave. I think we picked a challenging one this time around, with Darren Aronofsky! We begin with his first film, PI! Will this be too esoteric? Or maybe it's a hidden gem once you get past all the math and hideous hairlines. Join us to find out!

We are back right away with a new director! This time we go full pretentious cinephile with Darren Aronofsky. And our expert is prolific writer for The Hollywood Reporter, Richard Newby.
We talk faith, unwanted guests, strategic camerawork, and duality. But also, we have fun! Listen in!

And here we go, Mike will be happy. We have arrived at CLUELESS. Does yet another teen classic from Amy Heckerling hold up? Does the Fox News of it all ruin anything? Or is it all as it should be? Tune in to find out if two old men from Kentucky can still enjoy this one.

We return finally! Dave drags Mike back into the booth to talk about two more Heckerling movies.
First, we look at JOHNNY DANGEROUSLY, a movie seemingly built in a lab to annoy our cohosts. Gotta be honest, we move on pretty quickly. Keaton is not funny enough and way too short for Mike.
But on a happier note, we watch VAMPS a wildly underseen and really fun vampire comedy. Join us as we complain about the lack of output from our favorite women in film!
