  • Memecoins are absolutely dominating mindshare in today's crypto economy. While they might be easy to dismiss as passing fads, there appears to be something bigger happening here which we wanted to explore.

    So, we sat down with Arthur Hayes and Murad Mahmudov to discuss the unique structure of memecoins as a new asset class designed for a generation deeply immersed in social media and digital interaction: Zoomers themselves.

    We started discussing the recent Trump victory and the idea of a DeFi renaissance, with revenue generating cryptoassets being potentially favorable. However, both Murad and Arthur had thoughts which suggested this isn't exactly the case...for now. We went on to discuss how memecoins bypass the technical complexity of DeFi, focusing instead on creating spaces where online communities gather, trade, and rally around shared ideals. As macro forces like money printing and inflation reshape global markets, memecoins have been one of the largest beneficiaries in terms of growth.

    We asked Murad how he plans to exit, why Arthur is an ETH maxi vs. Murad's BTC maximalism, the Ethereum vs. Solana discourse, as well as the speculation on AI memecoins.

    From Murad's take on the potential for memecoins to sustain multiple market cycles to his bold predictions on AI’s role in DeFi’s future, this discussion was very straight-to-the-point, no BS.

    In today's video, we dive into the mechanics behind Predicate, led by Nikhil Raghuveera, and their goal to streamline transaction prerequisites across crypto.

    This idea of “transaction prerequisites” may sound a bit like a mouthful, but the way we are thinking about it is bringing the crypto onchain UX far closer to that of the internet.

    As you know, we have been quite bullish on chains which are usecase-specific with a target market and segment of focus. Abstract is designed to prioritize user experience, aiming to be the leading chain that truly puts consumer needs at the forefront.

    As early supporters of Pudgy Penguins and Luca, we don't think there's many better teams positioned to carve a blue ocean in this market.

    Luca's vision includes creating what he calls a “Crypto Disneyland” – a place where onchain experiences enable engaging, fun, and user-friendly applications for the everyday person. It’s a bold shift in approach, one that moves away from the typical DeFi-centric models.

    At the heart of Abstract’s strategy is a “consumer portal” that unifies applications, providing a seamless journey for users from discovery to interaction.

    This streamlined approach is all about removing the barriers that typically cause high user drop-off rates in crypto, making it easy for anyone to navigate from one application to another.

    We also discussed their collaboration with Eigenlayer, specifically for EigenDA. Luca mentioned he wants Abstract to focus on user-facing distribution while leaving the backend infrastructure needs to Eigenlayer’s infra stack. They will also utilize ZK Sync's elastic chain interoperability infra.

    As Abstract gears up for its mainnet launch, Luca envisions a crypto ecosystem focused on everyday people is the next logical step to bring meaningful, mainstream adoption to the space.

    In today's video, we are focused on the technical design of Hyperlane's open framework for interoperability.

    Joined by Jon Kol, we touched on why we believe that modular, horizontal scaling is key for the future of the crypto space and building towards that future is where Hyperlane is headed.

    Recently, Hyperlane announced 'Supelane' in collaboration with Velodrome that brings consistent security across Superchain L2s. Superlane aims to create unified experiences with customizable security that scales as each chain develops and grow over time. We also discussed Hyperlane’s ISMs, which allow developers to pick and choose their security parameters, from basic setups to more sophisticated ZK bridging.

    What was really particularly interesting was their idea of enabling insurance for bridging using EigenLayer.

    Hyperlane is working to enable restakers to restake cryptoassets as a form of insurance for bridging as well as a security marketplace that lets you easily tap into trusted operators. We first heard of this idea earlier in the presentation series from Othentic, and its great to see it being built out as 'restaked interop' in Hyperlane.

    As you know, the interoperability fight is raging on and we are all doing what we can to play a significant role in the future of a composable crypto ecosystem.

    The “internet of proving” is a network where ZK proofs are the centerpiece of all blockchain interactions onchain. We discussed the rise of proof markets onchain, why Lagrange is building their own prover network, and why they have decided to build their tech stack as an EigenLayer AVS.

    Lagrange is one of the earliest AVSs on EigenLayer, powering their prover network. We touched on their technical choice to build a double auction mechanism—an efficient way to match ZK proof buyers and sellers, making sure the market remains as steady as possible while keeping costs low for applications and consumers of ZK proofs.

  • Welcome back to Eigenlayer Unlocked for episode 15. Today, we’re exploring a concept that has intrigued cryptographers for decades but is now edging closer to practical use onchain — Fully Homomorphic Encryption, or FHE.

    We had the pleasure of speaking with Remi Gai from Inco, who walked us through how FHE is making its mark in crypto. Just recently, they announced a partnership with Circle as well to use FHE with Circle's stablecoin offerings. Think of FHE as the ability to perform computations on encrypted data without ever decrypting it, its better than *just* using ZK or MPC.

    Inco’s universal confidential computing network is looking to tackle one of blockchain’s biggest features, yet at the same time one of the biggest challenges: overwhelming transparency. By allowing developers to build with encrypted types and perform private computations directly onchain, they’re opening up new opportunities for usecases which just won't have PMF in a truly open, transparent environment.

    Our focus today is on Polymer Labs, for a technical presentation with Bo Du. Polymer is dedicated to making onchain interop as smooth as possible by acting as the "messaging queue" that acts as an interop layer for various rollups. By leveraging EigenLayer's DA, they’re scaling interop capacity to bring down costs and speed up transactions, enabling them to be a bridging hub for a potential future with thousands of L2s.

    The current hurdles of high latency, cost inefficiency, and complex data processing make it tough for blockchains to match the scale of traditional Web2 services. Bo has a very unique perspective on this landscape as he draws many analogies to traditional cloud computing throughout this presentation.

    Ultimately, the interoperability puzzle is about creating a modular architecture that can grow as more chains come online. Polymer wants to lean into the growing network effects of L2s, so we can collectively reduce time to market, and build the foundation for many chains to thrive in an interconnected world.

    We had the opportunity to sit down with Tarun Chitra from Gauntlet, who brought mental models, analogies, and key information to the table about how restaking mechanisms work, what makes EigenLayer's economics operate, and why incentives play a crucial role in this evolving ecosystem.

    We kicked things off by exploring the concept of valuing restaked security from one of Tarun's recent blog posts. Tarun explained how the decisions made by node operators—especially around which AVSs they allocate to—can have a ripple effect across the network.

    It’s not just about individual services; these choices can influence the broader stability of the ecosystem.

    A key part of our discussion was understanding the risks of cascading attacks. Tarun highlighted how failures in one AVS can impact others, leading to potential systemic issues. To prevent this, it’s essential to design security measures that address both local (individual service) and global (network-wide) risks. We discussed the analogy towards traditional finance, mortgages, and bonds to help conceptualize these concepts.

    One of the most interesting points was about EigenLayer’s introduction of a new security model featuring "unique stake." This model helps mitigate risks by allowing specific ETH reserves to be slashable only by particular services, providing a layer of isolation and addressing concerns about overlapping slashing risks.

    We also discussed the power law as it applies to AVSs—some thriving by transitioning from incentive-based models to sustainable revenue streams, while others might not make the cut longer-term.

    Today's pod is with Rushi Manche, co-founder of Movement Labs. We discussed the moveVM, Rushi's community building strategy and the testnet. We also explored how regions like Southeast Asia and LATAM are leading the way in everyday crypto adoption, while the USA is trying to get its footing with regulation.

    On the more technical front, we discussed Rushi's thesis on the shared sequencing layer, M1. Movement’s shared sequencing approach plays a crucial role for the development of their Move stack.

    Another key takeaway was the importance of user feedback during Movement’s testnet phase. They learned valuable lessons about quality control, third-party integrations, and how to improve the user experience by making onchain interactions smoother and easier for non-crypto natives.

    Overall, this was a very dynamic conversation and we even had a special guest, Jack Niewold to ask some questions.

  • Welcome to episode 10 of EigenLayer Unlocked, for a much more broad overview of what shared security really is, how to think about the concept of shared security, and where EigenLayer fits in.

    Following up on his earlier thoughts around modularity being a meme, we decided to bring Toghrul on to discuss his mental model for shared security and restaking.

    In the crypto world, shared security is often misunderstood as a term. In today's presentation, Toghrul walks us through why the lack of full shared security isn’t necessarily a bad thing, and how it opens up more opportunities for experimentation across L2s, restaking protocols, and other onchain systems. He also made a point to define the four key characteristics of shared security as it relates to cryptoeconomic systems.

    We touched on the idea of avoiding full interdependence amongst two separate systems which means individual failures are isolated, ensuring the wider ecosystem remains secure. However, this also breaks the core messaging for shared security, lending itself to a "partial shared security" terminology.

    Overall, this was a really good talk and towards the end we got into usecases, risks, and how Toghrul is viewing the restaking landscape.

  • Welcome to episode 9 of EigenLayer Unlocked, with a focus on utilizing a fast finality layer to improve cross-rollup interop and avoid the long finality delays on Ethereum L1.

    Today, we’re taking a closer look at Nuffle Labs’ fast finality layer, NFFL, an EigenLayer AVS that addresses state fragmentation, user experience issues, and security concerns amongst L2s. Nuffle Labs, led by founders Altan and Firat, comes from a strong technical background, starting with NEAR DA, and they’re known for making things faster, cheaper, and easier for rollups.

    But, that didn't stop Andy from grilling them about their tradeoffs, how they are going to write their slashing contracts, what the slashing rules are, and where there are chokepoints in their design.

    Their latest focus, NFFL, leverages the security of Ethereum through EigenLayer to give rollups a universal finality layer, slashing costs and improving interoperability. By using of restaked ETH, rollups can rely on cryptoeconomic security for faster state attestations.

    They also hinted at an upcoming product, which was partly a tease, albeit quite interesting.

    Othentic’s journey started with building their own AVS, and along the way, they faced every complexity imaginable. So, they created the Othentic Stack, making it easier for builders to get their AVSs off the ground without having to reinvent the wheel.

    So, what exactly is an AVS? Think of it as a decentralized computing service that performs complex tasks off-chain while verifying the results on-chain. This approach aligns with Ethereum's modular roadmap, where computations are offloaded to reduce onchain load, yet still securely validated. Unlike rollups, which focus on state transitions, AVSs are ideal for services where computation needs validation without the need for continuous state agreement.

    AVSs open doors for a variety of use cases—from oracles to machine learning models. Othentic simplifies the entire setup, letting teams focus on their core products while the stack takes care of everything on the infra side.

    This is the key to unlocking the full vision of Ethereum's rollup-centric roadmap facilitating coordination between different chains, and Espresso is at the forefront of making it happen. Robbie had a very technical conversation with Ellie, a researcher and engineer at Espresso, who shared insights into how their protocol is addressing one of the modular ecosystems biggest challenges: bringing true composability to rollups and app chains.

    Espresso’s approach centers around a sequencing marketplace and a fast finality layer. These two products enable different rollups to coordinate sequencing without sacrificing their sovereignty. Rollups can sell their sequencing rights through a combinatorial auction, allowing them to maximize revenue while still maintaining control over their operations.

    The addition of EigenLayer’s restaking mechanism further enhances this process, simplifying sequencing while leveraging Ethereum’s strong economic security for guarantees.

    Fast finality is another key feature of Espresso, reducing latency for cross-chain transactions. Their consensus protocol, Hotshot, ensures transactions are finalized in less than four seconds, providing strong guarantees for atomic cross-chain operations without waiting for Ethereum settlement.

    Espresso’s marketplace also ensures that sovereignty is preserved by redistributing auction proceeds back to the rollups (if you watched the ASS podcast, then you know we are extremely bullish on redistributing this to apps). Rollups can set floor prices to ensure they’re always getting the revenue they deserve, even if they opt to sequence themselves.

    In today’s presentation, we break down how ZK proofs allow us to compress complex computations into small, verifiable proofs, drastically reducing the need for re-execution across Ethereum. We were joined by Diego Kingston of Aligned Layer to explain how this helps solve one of Ethereum’s biggest challenges: scaling while keeping proof verification costs managable.

    One of the core ideas we discussed is proof recursion, where multiple proofs can be bundled together into one, reducing verification overhead and making onchain processes more efficient.

    We also explore how EigenLayer plays into this, enabling projects to offload proof verification from Ethereum’s main layer to a more specialized layer without sacrificing security. This allows Ethereum to avoid bottlenecks and avoid competing for block space, all while keeping costs lower and scaling higher.

    ZK verification might seem like a niche area, but it’s rapidly becoming a foundational piece of infrastructure for onchain apps which want to benefit from the security guarantees of validity proofs, as well as EigenLayer.

    Skate’s approach focuses on solving the liquidity fragmentation issue we see across multiple chains. They’re building a unified AMM model as well as the underlying technology for apps to exist across many chains.

    By leveraging EigenLayer’s as an AVS, Skate uses cryptoeconomic security to ensure cross-chain transactions and build an ecosystem of “stateless” apps.

    Andy dives into Siddharth’s background, why they have chosen to use EigenLayer, how the design works, and where Skate is headed.

    With all the buzz around apps, this was a refreshing conversation about one potential way we’ll see apps be construed across the inevitable future consisting of thousands of chains.
