  • "If you give care, you receive care."

In the season 1 finale of Doctor+, we are sharing a recording of a conversation from the 2023 Annual Scientific Meeting of the Minnesota Chapter of ACP. Doctor+ host Tseganesh Seleameab spoke with Dr. Meghan Rothenberger about her passion for storytelling. Dr. Rothenberger also shares a personal story about a special woman she cared for early in her career.

    About the guest:
Dr. Meghan Rothenberger is an infectious disease physician and medical educator. She attended medical school at Johns Hopkins and completed her Internal Medicine residency and Infectious Diseases fellowship at the University of Minnesota. She currently works at the Minneapolis VA. She has always loved creating stories, especially about the magical things that hide in normal days. For most of her adult life she only shared these stories with her very nonjudgemental pets. However, after experiencing significant burnout several years ago, she radically changed her relationship to work and with this came the courage to start sharing her stories. She had no idea that people would actually want to listen! Things she loves other stories and her family are laughing, doing anything outside (but especially cross-country skiing), picnics, animals, and coffee (a lot of coffee).

  • "It opened up my mind in terms of realizing how much joy one can find if you have the opportunity to learn something new."

    About the guest:

Dr. Anne Pereira is a palliative medicine physician and leadership coach at Hennepin Healthcare. She received her undergraduate degree in English Literature at Vassar College and her medical degree at the University of Minnesota Medical School. After completing her internal medicine residency and chief residency at Hennepin, she pursued a fellowship in academic internal medicine at Harvard, where she completed her MPH degree in clinical effectiveness. Over her 25-year career, she has held numerous leadership positions in medical education at the local and national level. Throughout her career, she has maintained a clinical practice, first in general internal medicine and now in palliative medicine, since completing her fellowship in 2021.

In 2017, Anne took her first sailing course and hasn’t looked back. In the summer of 2023, she and her husband, Jim, sailed their Sun Odyssey 440 from Bayfield, WI, through Lakes Superior, Huron, Erie and Ontario, down the St. Lawrence Seaway, around the Gaspé Peninsula of Quebec, to Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia and ultimately to Newport, RI. Most recently, she sailed offshore from Lagos, Portugal to Horta, Faial, in the Azores – about 1250 nautical miles. She and Jim plan to live on their sailboat in the coming years.
