  • Two words: midlife crisis. You know you’ve thought about it before. You see that family member or friend completely change out of nowhere and you wonder what in the world happened to make them completely flip their life upside down. Maybe they left a career they’ve had for 20 years, they bought a fancy sports car, or even (gasp) got a divorce.

But what if I told you that not all midlife changes are a crisis and that extreme, and for many women, it’s more of an awakening?

In this episode of Your Midlife Comeback Story, we are going to answer the question… what are the top 3 things we need to learn in the school of midlife?

To help us answer that, we've got the school of midlife expert herself, Laurie Reynoldson. Laurie was a lawyer on the brink of making partner at a large law firm and walked away from everything she had ever worked for.

    Together, we will unpack:

What are the top 3 things we need to know to succeed in the school of midlife? How do you define success and how can that definition change over the years? What does the success playbook look like when we finally focus on ourselves? What is the best strategy for creating boundaries and sticking to them? How do you handle the negative comments and push-back during your midlife transformation?

After an award-winning 20-year career as an attorney, Laurie left the law when she was on the verge of joining the partnership at a large super-regional firm, the job she’d worked her entire career to land. She knows exactly what it feels like to have everything you’ve ever thought you always wanted in life, but still feel like something is missing. Which is why she’s made it her mission to provide women with the tools, information, support and community to thrive in midlife…and skip the midlife crisis.

  • If you’re a woman in midlife and you’re struggling with your weight, you’ve probably tried different diets and nutrition and exercise without a lot of progress. This is very common. And it’s common because the 92% of diets that fail are missing one big piece. They don’t take into consideration the hidden weight loss block that is specific to your personality. I want to break this down for you today, because that covert blind spot is your number one weight loss block.

In this episode of Your Midlife Comeback Story, we’re going to answer the question… how do you identify your covert weight loss block?

If you’re interested in learning more about how to do this with the same FBI-inspired tactics that I used when I was in counterintelligence, then this episode is for you.

At the end, you’ll also learn what to do next, because once it’s no longer hidden, it’s much easier to create your game plan.

    Together, we will unpack:

How do you identify your covert weight loss block? How does the FBI's Model / Conscious Competence Model relate to weight loss? How can you achieve sustainable weight loss even though the industry expects you to fail? Why traditional weight loss methods don't work, and what you can do instead to achieve success.

  • What’s the first thing you think of when you hear the term “menopause”? If it’s hot flashes, night sweats, and crazy emotions all over the place, you’re not alone.

Those are absolutely legitimate. But what if I told you that everything you thought you knew about menopause was completely wrong? For example… what if… estrogen isn’t the “bad guy” we’ve all been led to believe?

In this episode of Your Midlife Comeback Story, we’re going to answer this important question… what are the 5 biggest myths about menopause, and what’s the real truth?

To help us answer that question, we’ve got 2 of the world’s top menopause experts, Kristin Johnson, and Maria Claps, who are authors of the new book, “The Great Menopause Myth.”

Kristin and Maria share the truth about menopause that most doctors don’t tell you. This is no longer your mother’s menopause, my friend, so grab your bestie and compare notes. This episode is a doozy.

    Together, we will unpack:

How is estrogen protective over every aspect of our health and not just menstrual cycles and fertility? Why are we led to believe that estrogen is dangerous, and should we be afraid of it?What is Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) and at what age should we begin thinking about it?Is HRT a one-size fits all or do I have options? What else can I do in conjunction with HRT, in order to live a healthier and more hormone balanced life?

Kristin Johnson and Maria Claps are the co-founders of the women’s health and hormone education practice, Wise and Well, as well as the Instagram account @wise_and_well_.

Kristin and Maria have developed a deep specialty in perimenopause and menopause health through their clinical mentorships with multiple medical doctors and naturopaths specializing in hormone replacement therapy.

  • Chances are, if you’re in midlife, you either have trouble falling asleep, or you wake up in the middle of the night and can’t fall back asleep, or both. I mean, yeah, we can always blame the dog. But then it’s multiple trips to the bathroom (I mean seriously, bladder!), hot flashes, and anxious thoughts running laps in your head.

What makes it worse is that it’s relentless. And you’re probably wondering why you used to be able to get a great night’s sleep and wake up feeling refreshed, but now, why does it keep getting worse the older you get?

In this episode of Your Midlife Comeback Story, we’re going to answer this important question…why is our sleep getting worse in midlife and what can we do to improve it and finally get a good night’s sleep on a consistent basis?

To help us answer that, we’ve got the holistic sleep coach herself, Morgan Adams.

In my conversation with Morgan, you can look forward to learning 3 key things:

The #1 reason why you’re waking up in the middle of the night and why your sleep quality is declining in midlife. The important lifestyle factors that will improve your sleep - beginning tonight.Do sleep hacks like taking melatonin, using blackout curtains, or wearing blue light blocking glasses actually work?

Plus, Morgan shares some common misconceptions about insomnia, and whether it’s recommended to sleep with your pet or not.

If you’re struggling with sleep, this episode is for you.

In today’s episode of Your Midlife Comeback Story, we dive into the critical role of forgiveness and understanding the true impact of the foods we consume so that you can be more empowered to make better decisions for your health.

  • By the time we reach our 40’s and 50’s, chances are, we’ve tried quite a few different diets. We came of age during the diet culture of the 80’s and 90’s, so this certainly isn’t breaking news. • If you’re a woman in midlife, chances are, you’ve experienced at least one situation where you were at an event where there was something decadent to eat. And because you were on a diet or trying to lose weight, or eat healthier, you were tempted. Maybe you were out to dinner with your spouse or friends and they brought out this tantalizing dessert tray, or maybe it was the monthly office birthday party where they were serving Costco cake, or maybe it was over the holidays and every party you went to, they had your favorite Christmas cookies that reminded you of how your Grandma’s kitchen smelled the entire month of December. And even though you kept telling yourself, I really shouldn’t eat this… you give in to temptation. And then, you felt guilty.

In this episode of Your Midlife Comeback Story, we’re going to answer the question… what separates the woman who is trying to eat better, but continues to do these mental gymnastics in her head, and then falls back into the same habits and the woman who effortlessly eats the foods that enables her to achieve sustainable weight loss?

The phenomenon that I’m about to share, I actually experienced back in 1999 when I lost 40 pounds, and I’ve been able to keep my weight within a 10 pound range of my ideal weight for the last 25 years, even though I’ve gone from being a competitive mountain bike racer to surviving breast cancer treatment and experiencing Hashimoto’s and hypothyroidism, a sluggish thyroid, and being knee deep in midlife and menopause. You’re probably going to be surprised at how simple this behavioral model is.

If you are interested in learning more about what’s been preventing you from achieving sustainable weight loss, along with why you keep falling back into the same habits, then keep listening, because this episode is for you. And at the end, you’re going to walk away with one very specific action step that you can take today, to start making your journey to better health more effortless and sustainable.

    Together, we will unpack:

What separates women who continue to struggle with trying to eat better, from those who seem to effortlessly eat the foods that enables them to achieve sustainable weight loss? What are the 5 Logical Levels, and how can you apply them to achieve sustainable weight loss? How can you pull yourself out of returning to the same old habits? How does your identity relate to your weight set point?

If you or your kids eat one of these popular cereals for breakfast, you’re ingesting harmful amounts of glyphosate, which is also known as the popular weed killer, Roundup. Most people think that glyphosate is safe, because our government says so. But there’s $10 billion dollars worth of lawsuit payouts that say otherwise.

On today’s episode, we’re diving into glyphosate, why it’s so controversial, the hidden sources and danger, plus… I’m going to uncover the top 3 favorite household food brands and fast food restaurants with the highest levels of glyphosate, along with the recent uproar over one of the most popular health foods and why eating healthy, organic, or gluten free isn’t always the best solution.

If you are interested in learning more about the controversy behind glyphosate, along with the shocking statistics, plus how you can protect your midlife health, and decrease the cancer risk for your family, your kids, grandkids, and even your fur babies, then keep listening because this episode is for you.

  • Do you wake up every day with a to-do list that gets results for everyone else... but taking care of yourself is NOT on the list?

Welcome to Your Midlife Comeback Story, the podcast for successful women in midlife to create their ultimate comeback by prioritizing their health so that their high-achievement lifestyle no longer clashes with unwanted weight gain, lack of energy, and restless nights.

I'm your host, Holly Bertone. I'm a former FBI Chief of Staff turned Certified Holistic Health Coach, and I help women in midlife find the clues to improve their health.

What I noticed is that while we're successful with our careers and families, those same action strategies don't work when it comes to sustainable habits for our health.

I learned this the hard way after being diagnosed with breast cancer and an autoimmune disease, and I knew there's more to life than burning the candle at both ends. I decided to take back control of what's most important in life, and I'm here to help you do the same.

Tune in every Friday for tactical action plans and inspirational stories so that you can create your midlife comeback story that is worthy of an 80's movie montage!

  • Do you enjoy the failures, the disappointments, and the difficult times? I’m guessing probably not. Most people don’t. Most people don’t wake up and say I can’t wait to be a failure today woo hoo! It doesn’t help that success is pushed so much that “They” say that failure is not an option. Let’s agree to disagree. I actually believe it’s THE BEST option. I believe that failure is THE BEST path to achieving success.

Today, we are going to answer the question… how does failure actually propel your success to even greater levels?

The answer is powerful, it involves the original Rocky movie… and I think it’s going to surprise you.

    Together, we will unpack:

How negative thoughts and replaying past failures consume and hinder us.How contrasting experiences bring clarity to our goals and aspirations. Why going through adversity can lead to a negative mindset and a sense of victimhood. The secret to how winners embrace failure as part of their journey without letting it define them.

  • If you ever wanted to know if I had any regrets about my breast cancer treatment, I’m going to share the answer to that awkward question in today’s episode. This episode isn’t just for someone who is currently going through treatment or is a cancer survivor. This episode is for every single woman who listens to my podcast.

In last week’s episode 122, Mindset Magic for Radical Results, I asked Christie Miller the question… if she had a magic wand to change her journey with cancer, would she?

In today’s episode, I’m going to answer that very same question about my own cancer journey… if I could go back in time, what would that look like?

    Together, we will unpack:

If I could go back in time with my own cancer journey, would I actually change anything? How living in the past doesn't change anything, but living for the present and making sustainable changes does. How cancer was the tap on the shoulder that I needed, but ultimately ignored, and the storm that followed after.

  • Should I introduce this episode by telling you that my guest was born premature and addicted to drugs? Should I introduce this episode by telling you that my guest annihilated stage 4 breast AND brain cancer to the point where she is called a radical remission miracle? I think I’ll just say… if you feel like your life needs a boost, and you want to uplevel the results you get in any area of your life, this is the episode for you.

My guest today is Christie Miller. Christie is a fun-loving, action-oriented mindset and business coach, motivational speaker, and author of The Playlist for Life.

These diverse adventures were not just jobs, but stepping stones toward her real calling: coaching others to believe that anything is possible and helping them overcome their fears, so they can play to win in all areas of their lives.

Christie was born prematurely and addicted to drugs, and she was not expected to survive. Fast forward, she recently overcame Stage 4 breast and brain cancer. The word overcame is actually an understatement. It was complete annihilation. Christie was declared a "radical remission miracle" by Dr. Katie Deming, the Conscious Oncologist. Christie’s journey is a powerful testament to her invincible spirit and the life-changing mindset techniques she champions. Get ready to be inspired.

    Together, we will unpack:

  • Have you ever found yourself thinking… can a day go by without someone bringing up the pandemic? It’s still a part of the fabric of our lives, whether we want it to be or not.

It was “the great reset” for us. But it also left us absolutely crippled as a society with a new epidemic with the increased mental health crisis. Increased anxiousness. Increased depression. Increased suicide. We lost our way on how to navigate back to homeostasis. On today’s episode, we are going to answer the question… how can we handle the fallout that’s still remaining from the pandemic when it comes to our mental health?

    Together, we will unpack:

How can we handle the mental health fallout still remaining from the pandemic? How I strengthened my immune system during the pandemic and it's now stronger than ever. AND... what you can do now.How to step out of fear and into empowerment during the chaos of every day life.

  • One of my biggest pet peeves with the health and wellness industry is that so often, the focus is ONLY on nutrition and exercise, when in reality, there are many other factors that combine to create our overall well being. The reality is that there is a very specific throughline that connects our business life with our personal life and health and that’s what today’s episode is all about.

My guest today is Heather Stewart.

Heather Stewart helps You BECOME Your Best Self.

She helps you balance your Body, Emotion, Community, Occupation, Money and Engagement Wellness so you can manifest your dream life into your reality.

Heather is the host of the Back to Me Podcast which was conceived while she lay for three days in the Emergency Room of the hospital after having two strokes. She decided then that she needed to help more people to be in a place where bumps in the road can be navigated and your life is set up to fully support you whatever happens.

    Together, we will unpack:

The unexpected throughline between our business lives and our health. What did we learn about our emotional health during the pandemic, and are we better or worse because of it?What’s the difference between your career and your purpose? What’s your joy factor when it comes to spending money? How can you find your light and remove the obstacles from letting it shine?

  • We look at our health and our career or business and the common denominator that I hear over and over again is… just tell me what to do and I’ll do it. As women in our 40’s and 50’s, we have demanding schedules, it’s hard to find the bandwidth to have the space to think for ourselves when everyone and everything is screaming at us and we are running from one fire to another.

I’m here to tell you that the second you start to defy society’s norms is the second that you will start to have agency in your life and is the second that you will begin to start seeing success. This is true for your health and your business so let’s jump into 5 ways that you can get started.

    Together, we will unpack:

The 5 ways to defy society's norms and truly start seeing success. The key to sustainable growth and how to apply it to your life. The two things that separate successful people from those who continue to struggle. Why saying "just tell me what to do, and I'll do it" doesn't work.
