Today's episode comes to you on Memorial Day, so I thought I would do some quotes on "Sacrifice" as a way to honor and recognize those people who have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep us free and to help others in the world live freely, too. However, only one of the quotes is about that kind of sacrifice. The rest of them are great quotes for you, as leaders, to use with your teams to help them understand the importance of sacrificing some things in order to help your teams have a chance to become the best they can be.

Holy cow, it's episode #250! Now, that's a milestone. And so, what better way to celebrate a milestone like that than with quotes about Milestones?!
You're going to hear a few different quotes today about the importance of milestones, but also on what aspects of milestones people should focus on. There are multiple ideas out there on milestones, and I touch on a few that I think are the most important ones to consider when you celebrate the milestones that you achieve.
Thanks to all of you for making this milestone happen! I couldn't have done it without you, the listeners, making this all worthwhile. I appreciate you and the impact you have on me, but more importantly, the impact you have on your teams. Keep up the great work!

Today I get personal. Today's quote deals with my own life right now. I make a major announcement a little ways into the episode. It's an announcement that will have a fairly substantial impact on the podcast moving forward, as well as some other ways that I have come to you before. The quote that I discuss is perfect for the situation.
Let me know your thoughts on it and the major announcement that I make by reaching out to me at [email protected]. Looking forward to hearing from you!

I was unaware until a while after the last episode, "Leadership is Language," was released that it cut off after only a few minutes. So sorry about that. Here is the full version of it. Enjoy!

I went in a different direction today than I thought I was going to go, but I think you're going to love it! Some quotes from the "Introduction" to a book I was listening to over spring break in Mexico last week. Really good insights for us on the language that we use to lead and to transform culture. Enjoy!

Today's quote comes from an unlikely source - ME!
I was doing a basketball skills workout yesterday with some kids here in my town, and while in the middle of the workout, all of a sudden, this quote came out of my mouth. I said to the two parents (who are also coaches and also frequent listeners of this podcast!), "Hey, I think that's a quote I can use on my podcast!"
Now, a day later, here it is. And if I am allowed to say so myself, it's a good one! See what you think of it.

The Super Bowl was yesterday. Congratulations to the Philadelphia Eagles! It was quite a performance by them. To you Kansas City Chiefs fans, I say "Sorry for your loss." You have been the pinnacle of greatness in the NFL for the last 6 or 7 years, and I see no reason why that won't continue. You have the best coach and quarterback in the game today, and you are a team of excellence.
Today's podcast is about the difficulty that the Chiefs face that other teams are not facing yet - Staying on Top. The Eagles will have to deal with this next year. I have three quotes, plus a bonus quote, that discuss this concept of getting to the top, but more importantly, staying there. You'll also hear me talk about an upcoming episode or even a series about quotes by the originator of the bonus quote that you'll hear in today's episode. You will definitely want to come back for that in the future!

Did that title get your attention?! Good! The quote in this episode will, too. I had never heard this quote until Saturday night. (Yes, this past Saturday night - January 25th, 2025) And I saw it in a fairly obscure place - on the refrigerator in the teachers' lounge in the school where I am the activities director.
I was so blown away by this quote that I thought, "I have to do this on an episode of the podcast." Then I thought, "Why not do it for Monday's episode?!"
And so, here you have it - a great quote that, up until two days ago, I did not even know existed. But now, I am so glad that I found it, and I know you will be, too!For more information to help you on your road to becoming your best, check us out at SlamDunkSuccess.com or email me at [email protected].

It's the time of year when belief takes center stage in many of our worlds. Whether we're talking about belief in Santa Claus or a belief in a higher power or supreme being, December is a huge time of year for those who "believe."
Today I have 8 quotes dealing with belief. Some deal with the kinds of belief I just mentioned, but others deal with a belief in oneself or in someone else. No. matter what kind of belief we are talking about, belief is a powerful force, and it is a key ingredient of any successful endeavor. For more information to help you on your road to becoming your best, check us out at SlamDunkSuccess.com or email me at [email protected].

My apologies to you all for not getting an episode out to you. I recorded it last Sunday morning, and it was ready to go. However, I wasn't able to upload it to my podcast host's site that morning, and I planned to do it later in the day. Well, as my days are always busy now (even Saturdays and Sundays!), I didn't get to it. Then on Monday morning, I left the house at 5:30 for a meeting in Helena. From then on until Wednesday night, I forgot that I had not uploaded the episode.
My wife and I flew out to Newark, New Jersey to spend time with our son over the Thanksgiving holiday. I thought about the episode at some different times, but whenever I did, I was not near my computer, so I never uploaded it. It is now Sunday morning, and I am sitting in the Newark airport ready to fly home (already have had a 3-hour delay, but hoping that it all works out). I was going to upload and release this episode on whatever day I finished all of the technical parts (like writing this!), but now that it's Sunday, it will come out on Monday, exactly one week after it should have been released.
Anyway, great ideas in here from someone I have quoted before and know I will quote again. really good stuff, some of which I have already used with kids, coaches, and parents while communicating with them. While it's not a "famous" quote or anything like that, it is extremely powerful and applicable in your communications. For more information to help you on your road to becoming your best, check us out at SlamDunkSuccess.com or email me at [email protected].

A short, but powerful, quote today that focuses on how you and I can help the world. It becomes really powerful when you consider the predicament the author went through during and after the time of writing this.

In this episode, I focus on two quotes that play off of a third very famous quote that you have all heard. (You have probably already guessed what that quote is!) They are really good quotes for us to consider as we are trying to grow into the best versions of ourselves.

Great quote today from Stephen Covey, the author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. This one is about a quality that is so important for members of teams to possess - humility. Those of you leading any kind of team are going to love this one!

You get to hear a poem today! Don't go running away if you're not a fan of poetry. I guarantee you that you're going to love the message in this one, especially if you are a coach, teacher, parent, or leader of young people (or anyone, for that matter). Great message in a great poem, so I had to share it as a "Great Quote"!

Sorry for not releasing an episode last week! No excuses, except that life as a new Activities Director at a high school got in the way. But I'm back this week with an outstanding quote from one of the founders of the concept of Servant Leadership - Max De Pree. There is a lot packed into this quote... so much so that I know you're going to love this one!

You might recognize the title of this episode as a quote by Marcus Aurelius, and you would be right in doing so. However, in today's episode, I am actually talking about 10 points and a few quotes from the Introduction to Brene Brown's book, Dare to Lead, that I mentioned a few weeks ago.
In the Introduction, she mentions Aurelius's quote, but she does it to introduce 10 behaviors and cultural issues that leaders identified as getting in the way of their organizations becoming the best they could become. Check out the 10 things she talks about and see if you find that the organizations and teams that you are involved in have many of those same issues that are keeping you from achieving all that you are trying to achieve.
Really powerful stuff here, and I'm sure I will be doing more from this book at some point in the future. For now, just dive into these ideas, then go get this book because you're going to want to do so much more with it after you hear the ideas in here. For more information to help you on your road to becoming your best, check us out at SlamDunkSuccess.com or email me at [email protected].
