Mel Thomas could be defined by tragedy, and would be forgiven for that given the shit she's gone through. But the inspiration that she has become, and the influence that she has generated is grounded in a self-worth that is woven into her DNA.
Founder of the KYUP! Project, Mel has a mission to bring attention, awareness & action towards domestic violence, which incredibly still has a massive lack of focus from official channels & institutions. Her focus on building worth in those who have suffered & struggled with it lead us to have an amazing conversation & contemplation about the whole topic around worth/self-worth, which has had me seriously reflecting personally around the whole concept of worth. When my publisher recommended that I chat to Steve Palise, I wasn't sure what to expect because here was a guy that looked very corporate, very driven, founder of Palise Property and the author of 2 published books around residential & commercial investing...basically mega-focussed!
What I connected to was all of the above, but encased in a guy who has his life priorities absolutely nailed! Steve has a thriving business, but never works past 4pm, spends months travelling with his young family, and makes his income work for him as opposed to the other way around. Philisophically-minded, his altruistic viewpoint on life in quite brilliant, and this conversation has us talking about why we should question standard societal frameworks, and why doing that can open doors to a life that we never thought would be possible.

If there's one thing I've learned about my friendship with Justin Nickerson, it is that there is very little that phases this guy! Justin epitomises the fact that when you find where your worth belongs, incredible things happen around you and for you. 3-time Australaisian Auctioneering Champion, he is the most decorated auctioneer in Australian history (and we are the auction capital of the world!), but when you listen to him it is obvious that he doesn't forget who he is and how solid his moral compass is. It is the philosophy that he has built Apollo Auctions with, which is why it is statistically the biggest & most deocrated auctioneering firm in Australia & New Zealand.
When you listen to this chat, recognise that you don't need to be all razzle dazzle in order to be successful, as long as you have a focus to make the very most of the skills & value that you have within you...you'll be just fine!

I'm not sure if I'm going to sound very obvious here, but our memory plays a part in almost everything that we do! Being deaf from birth would have restricted plenty of people in their goals...not Thomas Paull. Born & raised by deaf parents and with a deaf brother, Thomas was brought up to not let his disadvantage get in the way. Although his initial passion was rugby union, it was in an Mixed Martial Arts gym that Thomas found a home, and since then he has travelled the world winning titles in multiple disciplines.
The sport has had to adjust to him, he's that good! Thomas has also made it onto the UFC 'Contender Series', where he fought in front of the biggest name in the sport, Dana White. With help from Sean the interpreter, this is just the best conversation that will leave you feeling both humbled and empowered. His dad even jumps on & is such a character!
