Mary Lynn McPherson, PharmD, MA, MDE, BCPS is a Professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) and Executive Director of Advanced Post-Graduate Education. She developed the online Master of Science, Graduate Certificate and PhD Programs in Palliative Care at UMB, and teaches in several courses. She has practiced in hospice and palliative care her entire career, and is a prolific speaker and author in palliative care. -

Trained in nursing, palliative care is a second career for palliative care after working in marketing. Dr. Grant trained as an acute care nurse practitioner and moved into palliative care. She completed a policy fellowship and has used her talent to push forward a palliative care agenda and facilitate better language in palliative care.

She has served on several Institute of Medicine panels which produced reports on pediatric palliative care, the National Institute of Nursing Research for end-of-life and Palliative Care Science, and the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine Roundtable on Quality Care for People with Serious Illness.

Trained as a physician, Dr, Davis focuses on research within hematology/oncology. His research interests include cancer pain, cancer palliation, cancer-related fatigue, patient communication, opioids, quality of life and symptom assessment. He has had significant impact symptom management in patients with cancer and serious illness.

Trained as a physician, Professor Higginson is currently Professor of Palliative Care and Policy, Vice Dean (Research) of the Florence Nightingale Facuty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care and Director of the Cicely Saunders Institute at King's College London. She has had international impact in the development of hospice and palliative care.

Trained as a nurse in cancer care and pain management, Mr. Coyne has been in palliative care in its evolution. He was one of the few PDIA nurse scholars and has been at the forefront of policy and has served as core faculty for ELNEC – National and International. He has edited several books related to palliative care.

Trained as a chaplain as part of her second career after she has been involved with film making, Chaplain Scott helped evolve a chaplaincy role within cancer care and palliative care. She was one of the first certified chaplains. She served on the NASEM Planning Committee for Improving Access to and Equity of Care for People with Serious Illness in 2019.
