  • In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 82 of Owner Stories with Harv from Toronto, Canada. For Harv it all started at around 13 years of age when his mum bought him an 80’s style Porsche print of a Guards Red 911, from that point on Harv knew he wanted one. The Porsche print hangs in his garage today. Harv is a filmmaker and Executive Creative director and Artist. He is a collector of many things especially vintage skateboard decks.

Harv, like most of us, didn’t get his first Porsche until later in life. Harv mentions ‘that driving everything but a Porsche’ was in a way the catalyst for getting one. He has owned American and Japanese cars along the way, cars he liked but not one that he really wanted. What Harv always wanted was a 911 but moving around a lot as a Filmmaker meant it didn’t happen until recently.

During the pandemic his interest pique and although he missed out on a couple of 911s he eventually found the right one. At the end of 2020 Harv purchased his first 911, a 1983 911SC in Platinum Metallic a ROW version sold in Germany in 1983. A car he wanted since a kid and a very special and fully documented example. Harv hasn’t stopped there. He has now decided to go all in and has now become a Porsche hot rod builder. Harv is building 911 STs on original long hood bodies under his new venture – ‘History Projects’. Harv describes it as his version of what a modern day 911 should feel like.

  • In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 81 of Owner Stories with Wyatt from Tulsa, Oklahoma in the U.S. Wyatt’s first memory of Porsche is from the 2006 movie ‘Cars’ and the Porsche named ‘Sally’. His dad at the time explained to him that the engine was in the rear which he thought was cool. This will set the scene for you. Wyatt is the youngest owner to date to be on Owner Stories.

Wyatt’s passion and love of cars began at an early age and thanks to his dad Wyatt knows how to work on cars. He likes classics and project cars. Wyatt sees the value where others may not. His first car was a 1992 Volvo 740 station wagon, it was a cheap car, a beater but allowed Wyatt to drive which he loves doing. After the Volvo came a ‘95 BMW 318is, a car he still owns. Wyatt was drawn to Porsche by its shape, especially the 944 and 928, so in 2017 he started searching on Craigslist. The first 944 he found he walked away from but not the second. At 19 Wyatt purchased his first Porsche a ‘95 944 in white with manual transmission.

Other cars followed including a ’74 BMW 2002, his dad’s car which Wyatt really like driving, a cheap ’87 BMW E30 325e, 1977 BMW E21 320i and a very slow 83’ Mercedes 240D. In 2019 Wyatt purchased a new 124 Abarth spider with his first pay from working on airplanes. A year later Wyatt purchased another new car, a 2020 Challenger GT. The challenger was a comfortable car, but Wyatt really wanted a sportscar. In 2022 he traded the Challenger for his second Porsche, a 2008 987 Cayman S in manual. Throughout Wyatts owners story his passion and love of cars shines through. He shows that you can just ‘buy and drive’ without having to spend a lot of money.

  • In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 80 of Owner Stories with Miguel from San Francisco in the U.S. Growing up in the Bay Area in California Miguel was immersed in car culture. Although he saw a lot of cars, he didn’t see a lot of Porsches. Miguel was around more of the muscle cars of the time, including Mustangs. His first encounter with Porsche was when he was in High School in the early ‘80’s. He was driving his first car, a VW rabbit, and passed an auto shop with Porsches and Mercedes – he had to go back and take a second look.

Miguel’s first experience in a Porsche was when he was taken for a drive in a 911SC, a car he found raw and aggressive. To date, Miguel has owned over 40 cars and 35 motorcycles. Not only that he has held three racing licenses. Some of his standout cars along the way include the VW rabbit, hot-rodded Karmann Ghia, Datsun roadster, Mercedes 500E, BMW 2800, BMW M5, Mercedes C63-P31 package, Mazda Miata NA and his first Porsche, a 1985 911 Carrera. Miguel’s 1967 Datsun roadster was the car that introduced him to track days and racing. Miguel has a long history in the Northern California motorsports scene.

Miguel got back into Porsche in 2019. His current Porsche is a 2008 997 Turbo Tiptronic. This is a car which he uses regularly as track weapon, long distance tourer and as a daily driver on the streets of San Francisco. As you will hear, Miguel loves to modify his cars. His current 911 Turbo is no exception, it now has modified suspension for track usage among other enhancements. Miguel mentions he likes to add his mods incrementally so he can measure the changes on the track. In saying that his 997.1 Turbo is now well sorted.

  • In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 79 of Owner Stories with Tyler from Minneapolis in the U.S. Having always loved sports cars, Tyler only got into Porsche quite recently. A fond memory of a ‘sports car’ was his dads brand new red Chevy Cavalier. A car that Tyler though was the ‘coolest thing at the time’. This is also the car his dad taught him how to drive stick in - a car Tyler loved.

Tyler only started thinking about Porsche around 2018 after seeing a very cool ‘80’s Guards Red 911 on a business trip. This is not to say he never appreciated the lines and the iconic shape before then - he did. After attending an auction in 2019 (to look at Mazda Miatas) Tyler realised that it was possible to get a sports car for good money. In fact, some Miatas were even getting closer to Porsche world prices. This got Tyler thinking and searching.

After enjoying his dads Cavalier Tyler owned sensible cars including Chevys and Hondas. In early 2020 the time felt right to get a ‘fun car on the side” this time Tyler decided to extend his search to Porsche and found one quite quickly. He went to view a 2001 Lapis Blue 986 Boxster and after the test drive he knew this was the car. A car he felt at one with.

Tyler’s Porsche journey moved forward quickly. In 2021, he decided that the ‘fun car needed a rear seat’ for all the family to enjoy - his wife agreed. Tyler started the search for his first 911. The one to catch Tyler’s attention was the Millennium Edition 996, a car his wife was not sold on. Moving forward the 997 generation became an option and Tyler knew what he wanted and started searching. Not long after he found one with every option on his list. His second Porsche is a ‘07 911 Carrera in black, manual with sand beige interior. The Honda Civic is gone, the Boxster is now up for sale and Tyler and his family are loving their Porsche 911.

  • In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 78 of Owner Stories with Freddie from Toronto, Canada. Freddie started noticing Porsches from a young age. He had the poster on the wall of the iconic 930 Turbo and its whale tail. He also remembers a 964 commercial shown on Canadian TV in the ‘90s showcasing all the unique Porsche 911 colours of the time.

Freddie like most of us didn’t start with a Porsche, he was heavily into Hondas and still owns one today. His first car was a 1990 Honda CRX Si a car he modified and made just that little bit better. Freddie mentions early on that he is a ‘90s guy and pretty much all the cars he has owned are from the 1990s and later. So, after the CRX the cars that followed included many Hondas, BMWs, Toyotas, Acura’s and even a Lexus. Freddie’s third Honda CRX purchased in 2007 he still owns and sits under a cover in his garage.

Apart from his current four Porsches Freddie also has a couple of daily drivers. These include a BMW F80 M3 and a E90 335i as well as his ‘winter daily’ a Volkswagen Sportwagon. As you can see Freddie loves his cars. Now for the Porsches. The first 911 came in 2002 when Freddie and his wife purchased a brand new 911 - a 996 Carrera 2, white on tan with aero package. A big jump from the Hondas and Freddie recalls that at the time he and his wife felt like they were ‘driving the fastest car in the world.’ A fun car, but after 6 years of ownership Freddie wanted something more. A bigger jump followed in 2008 when Freddie purchased one of the best 911s – a 2007 997 GT3RS in Orange. A car Freddie still owns.

Other Porsches owned which have now left the garage include a ’91 964 911 Turbo, 997.1 Turbo, a 1990 964 C4. Oh, and the one he almost forgot to mention the 2010 low mileage GT3. So apart from the 997 GT3 RS what completes Freddie current line-up? Well, that would be a 997.1 Carrera 2S, a well sorted 964 Carrera 4 in the rare shade of Baltic Blue metallic as well as his 911 (991.2) GT3 Touring in Chalk.

Freddie remains humble and acknowledges everything has just come together well - especially when his day job overlaps with his Porsche passion. He has a soft spot for 964’s but just remember to ask two key questions before purchase – ‘is it leaking oil and does the Aircon work?’

  • In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 77 of Owner Stories with Mick from Hampshire in the UK. Mick has fond memories of attending Brands Hatch Circuit in the UK with his dad and brother. One time in the ‘80s, the Porsche 917K lemans cars were brought to the Circuit. This is where Mick fell in love with the Steve McQueen long tail 917K. A memory he will never forget, seeing and hearing the Porsche 917 on track.

After getting his license Mick said a lot cars along the way were ‘shit boxes’. Although, there were a couple of memorable cars, these included a MK2 VW Golf – ‘not the best example but a fun car to drive’. Another was the black with gold wheels ‘02 Subaru WRX STI Impreza, a car his dad previously owned. During lockdown in the UK the WRX was sold and couple of electric cars followed. These included a VW ID3 and his current electric the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

So, when did Mick buy his first Porsche? Well, that was in 2015, when he purchased a 997.2 Carrera S in manual. Mick was introduced to a car and community that he really enjoyed, he loved his 997 and thought it was a keeper. That was until early 2020 when he found out that Porsche East London had two cancelled GT4 orders, The one Mick was interested in was a very well optioned black GT4 manual with ceramic brakes, buckets, and the very cool Arun gold wheels. Reminiscent of his dads WRX (and a colour combination he loved) the decision was easily made. Mick's 997 is now gone and the GT4 sits in his garage, he couldn’t be happier.

  • In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 76 of owner stories with Andy from Northern Ireland. The first time Andy noticed a Porsche was the year Star Wars came out, it was 1977 in Tasmania and the car was an orange Porsche 911. The poster cars for Andy were not Porsches though, they were Corvettes and Lamborghinis. Andy really liked the Corvette Stingray. Andy recalls ‘Porsches weren’t really around that much’ but he does remember a very cool 928 owned by his mum’s boss.

Andy’s first car was a Datsun 240K, a hand me down from his mum. Once he graduated and started work Andy owned sensible cars including a Ford Fairmont. There were some fun cars though along the way. First, Andy owned a 1985 Mitsubishi Cordia Turbo GSR. Following the Cordia was a car he always wanted, a 1982 Mitsubishi Starion. Both cars he enjoyed driving and modifying. At this time Andy was living in Melbourne and immersed in the local car community.

In 2019 after selling his business Andy decided he wanted a sportscar. Research began and not long after his first Porsche becomes a reality. Andy purchased a 2006 987.1 Cayman S. The Cayman was a test to see if he liked the Porsche thing - he did. A 2011 Cayman R followed and recently Andy just purchased his first 911, a 996 GT3. Not just any GT3, but a rare 1999 996.1 GT3 Clubsport Manthey K400 in Speed Yellow. This is one special Porsche which Andy is going to put plenty of miles on.

  • In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 75 of owner stories with Tom from Vancouver, Canada. One of Toms earliest memories of Porsche is a plastic model of a G-Body 911 Targa on his dad’s dresser. Tom mentions that even though his dad was a ‘muscle and hot rod guy’ he was always into 911s. So much so that when Tom was around 8 years old his dad purchased a 1978 911 SC in silver. His dads 911 SC was a car that Tom recalls some great memories with. Toms first car was not a Porsche but very cool just the same. It was a ’91 Toyota MR2, not a bad place to start your car journey. Having enjoyed the MR2, a ‘more sensible’ Honda Civic hatchback followed. A car that Tom went down the ‘JDM road’ with. So, when did the Porsche arrive? The Porsche for Tom (like a lot of us) happened later in life. One thing Tom did want was to give his two boys the Porsche experience that his dad gave him and his brother. Tom wanted a reliable 911 that ‘he could turn the key and drive’. He started searching for 911s from the 996, 997 and 991 generations. After a long search and having passed up on a few, the right one eventually turned up. In August 2021, Tom found a 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S, silver, manual and with a black interior - this one was just right. Welcome back to the PorscheCooled Podcast. • In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 74 of owner stories with Greg from Chicago in the U.S. Greg’s first car was a MG Midget, a car he shared with his brother. At around the same time Greg remembers being ‘stopped in his tracks’ when a ’74 or ’75 Carrera in Gulf Blue came rolling down his street. A lasting memory and a car he wanted to own one day. Then there was a Porsche 911 book (which he still has) gifted from an old girlfriend - all fuelling his passion. Other cars along the way included a Firebird, Challenger and a ‘69 Camaro, but nothing that Greg really regrets selling. Looking back Greg now realises nothing drives like a Porsche.

So, when does the dream become reality? Greg’s first Porsche came about when he accompanied his friend to a car dealership, and he ended up buying his first Porsche – a 2003 911 Cabriolet. He enjoyed the 996 Porsche 911 for 10 years and it is now owned by his brother-in-law.

Four years after selling his 911 Greg’s came across an article about cars from the ‘80s and started looking for another Porsche. First came the 1989 944 Turbo S in manual. Greg loves this car especially the ‘rush’ of the turbo. Greg didn’t stop there. He always wanted an ‘80’s Carrera and found one advertised in the PCA magazine. Not your average 3.2 G Series Carrera but a low mileage 1986 911 Carrera Coupe (CS) clone. Greg is now deep into the Porsche world, enjoying his cars and active in the Porsche Community. After seeing a fantastic 356 at a Cars and Coffee, Greg decided he wanted to know more about the iconic 356. He did his research, spoke to the right people, and purchased a 1964 356 C in Ruby Red. A 356 with a great history and Porsche ownership story. Recently Greg added a Speed Yellow 2003 996 Cab to his collection, a modern Porsche for those fun drives and reminiscent of his first 911.

  • In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 73 of owner stories with Dan from New York in the U.S. Dan grew up in the age of the posters on the wall but it was the Porsche 928 scene in the movie Scarface that left an impression. in college his roommate’s dad coincidentally owned a couple of Porsche 928s. Dans Dad had a few cool cars when he was growing up including a manual Chevy Nova, Nissan 240Z and an early 80’s Camaro. The Camaro Dan would drive when he his dad was away and really enjoyed driving. His dad also gave him a ‘71 Mercury Cougar XR-7 convertible, which gave Dan the ‘convertible bug’.

Moving to New York straight out of school the need for a car diminished. It wasn’t until Dan got married and moved to Long Island that he needed a car again. His Jeep came first, but Dan really wanted a convertible. A few test drives later he decided on ‘97 986 Boxster 2.5. This was in 2002 and is a car that still puts a smile on Dans face 20 years later. A car that opened Dan up to the unexpected and enjoyable Porsche community.

Just under a year ago Dan decided to purchase a 911. A Porsche he has wanted for some time. After a long search Dan found just what he wanted, and in the right specification and options – a 2010 997.2 C4S manual in Carrara White. A car he is really having fun with and enjoying to the fullest.

  • In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Steve and Marco are here. Michael updates that there will still be no more Friday episodes for a while - but this one just happened. It’s not easy with 3 hosts and Steve thinks it sounds all a bit stilted - but not for long. Michael is excited that you can now buy Porsches with Crypto. Marco and Steve still don’t get it. Steve explains his GT3 issues, and the repairs completed. Michael is still talking about 993’s and Steve has some good advice.

The perfect 912 just came up in the UK but Michael isn’t tempted. Marco thinks it’s best to pay a bit more and get a sorted one. Especially for Michael. What else? Marco explains the relevance of Fuchs on his new oval window VW Beetle and tells the story of his late-night roadside repairs.

Buying advice and checks? Well, Marco thinks it comes down to trust and gut instinct no matter how much research is done. Steve adds that you need to judge the car that’s in front of you and trust the person who is checking it. You just can’t generalise. Steve shares his thoughts on the new 911 Sport classic.

  • In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 72 of owner stories with Amanda from Colorado in the U.S. Amanda’s car journey started when she was only 4 when her dad bought a Mitsubishi Eclipse. A car Amanda has fond memories of pretending to drive like a racing driver. Later in life, and inspired by a ‘Fast and the Furious’, Amanda wanted a Charger. In 2013 her wish came true with a Dodge Charger 100th anniversary edition. A car Amanda enjoyed for around 6 years and drove it all over the country.

Amanda mentions she knew little about German cars, but that changed after an Audi Experience Day at Circuit of the Americas in an R8. A BMW experience in M Cars followed and Amanda’s (and her Husbands) love of German cars began.

So, what followed? A BMW X3 M40i, a car Amanda took to the track. It was at these track days where she started noticing the Porsches. The inevitable followed. In 2020 the first 911 entered the garage, a 2002 Carrera 4 996 Cabriolet - manual and in Arctic Silver. This was going to be Amanda and her husbands’ ‘fun’ car. Not to mention it became the car Amanda learnt to drive stick in. It doesn’t end there. In late 2002, Amanda and her husband purchased a black 2007 911 Turbo in manual. Both practical cars were now gone, and the Porsches were daily driven with snow tyres when needed. Recently the 997 Turbo has been replaced with a very special 2022 Porsche 718 Spyder, Shark Blue, Manual with LWB’s.

  • PorscheCooled is back. In today’s Podcast Michael chats with Marco about all things Porsche. You guys would have heard Marco’s name thrown about in a lot of previous episodes. Marco owns a very cool Speed Yellow 996 Turbo and has stepped up to co-host with Michael today. So, where’s Steve? That’s what everyone wants to know. Michael explains.

After an update, Michael thinks the new 992 911 Sport Classic may be the perfect Turbo, Marco likes how it’s a Turbo and RWD. Then there is the recently launched GT4 RS - Michael and Marco wouldn’t say no, and honestly who could not love that sound. Marco reckons Porsche have given the Cayman fans what they wanted. Michael talks watches for a bit and shows off his pronunciation skills with JLC.

‘There is no substitute’ – at first it's not clear whether Michael is just talking about Porsches, Marco, or other Podcasts. Of course, he is referencing Porsche’s heritage. Michael and Marco share their thoughts on Porsche’s mantra. Marco talks about his new car acquisitions (which are not Porsches) and his lifelong love of the VW Beetle.

It’s not easy if you start thinking about the balance of colour / options and rarity. Buying any 911 in this crazy Porsche bubble is not easy. • In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 71 of owner stories with David from Sydney, Australia. First Porsche memories? Well, apart from the model cars it was a 911 in a car book given to him by his parents. A book he still has and has now gifted to his daughter. David got to see his first 911 in real life at his dads panel shop – a 930 turbo.

David doesn’t miss any of his previous cars as ‘they were all pretty much shit boxes’, making his first Porsche even more special. In saying, that David was always into road bikes, especially riding sport bikes, having owned around 13 of them over the years.

David has a detailing business which he started straight out of school. Today David details a lot of nice cars, but it was until 2019 that he seriously started thinking the time was right to start looking for his ‘nice car’ - a 911. Originally David started searching for a 997 Carrera S but decided he wanted a 911 without any underlying issues, so he started looking at the 996 Turbo. A big decision as David has never spent that amount of money on a car before. Why the Turbo? Well, David thought why not go all in and buy a 911 with the bullet proof Mezger engine. At the end of 2019 David found his perfect 911 a well-documented 2001 996 Porsche 911 Turbo, manual in Meridian Metallic with RUF wheels and wing. It was a great day.

  • In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael and Steve chat about the Porsches they saw whilst attending the Duck & Whale Car Meet in Sydney. It was a bit overwhelming in more ways than one. Before that Steve reckons the new Macan T is a Travesty. Michael looks at the sinking Porsche cargo ship in a slightly different way. Oh, and on the topic of being 'Porscheless’ - well that’s a tricky one.

  • In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 70 of owner stories with Al (@Witty924) from Hampshire in the UK. Al grew up in the age of the poster with the three iconic cars – Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche. Iconic cars that he and his childhood friends would chat and dream about.

Al worked in the motor industry starting with Audi, but Porsches, Audi and the like were out of reach. When Al was growing up in the UK it was more about fast Fords and fast Vauxhalls. These were the cars that were prominent and obtainable. Working in the motor trade allowed Al to experience different cars without the cost. Al quickly became a fan of the German brands and has owned E30 and E36 BMWs.

Al’s entry into Porsche happened later in life. In his words when it did happen, he ‘went all in’ and purchased two. The first was a well-documented 1984 Porsche 924 with the 2.0 litre engine, optioned in Copenhagen Blue. Al wanted something that would give him a hands-on experience with Porsche. A Porsche he could learn and work on. Al thought the 924 was the perfect platform for this project and loves the story of the how the 924 came to fruition. Not long after Al bought his first 911, a rare 2003 996 generation 911 turbo S with the X50 package and full carbon pack. Al couldn’t be happier with his 911. The 996 Turbo S gives Al the ‘wow factor’ - just what he wanted.

  • In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael wants Steve to say his new appointed catch phrase but he is not playing along. Speaking of friends with multiple Porsches Steve reckons he only has one – ‘can you really count the Macan as a Porsche’. Moving along to real Porsches then and the iconic feature we all remember from our first Porsche memories – wings.

Porsche wings, you either love or hate, but form does follow function. Michael and Steve have decided that Porsche wings is the main chat topic this week. Sure, there is the 993 Turbo fixed wing, the beautifully designed 959 wing and the whale and ducktail. Nevertheless, Steve reckons we sometimes forget about how special the retractable wing on the Carrera really is. A 911 signature and instantly recognisable to most as a Porsche if not a 911. What else – well the 992.2 is coming as is the new 911 Safari. Plus, a whole lot more.

  • In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 69 of owner stories with Matt from New York in the U.S. Matts first recollection of Porsche was the Dentist in his local town who had a 911. An iconic black 964 with a whale tail, a Porsche Matt admired and remembers well. Most of Matt’s cars before his Porsche were mainly hand me down cars from his parents. His first ‘real car’ (as Matt puts it) was a Nissan Maxima. A car that had some extra performance than his previous cars.

Once he moved to New York Matt didn’t own a car for some years. Owning a car, let alone a Porsche in New York has its challenges, especially with parking and associated costs. Until Covid hit, Matt never had the need for a sports car. The Porsche 911 was going to be the means to escape and get out of the city.

After using Turo to rent a Porsche 991 Matt was hooked and didn’t want to give it up. From that point on Matt knew he wanted a 911 and his search began. Initially wanting a Porsche 991 Matt decided upon something rawer. He found a fully optioned 2006 997 generation 911 Carrera S, manual 6 speed which was perfect. In the past year Matt has driven his first 911 over 20,000 miles.
