  • Heart intelligence.

The ancients throughout many cultures left us wisdom that suggests the heart is as powerful, if not more, than the brain. And despite how modern medicine puts the heart and brain in different categories, there’s a persistent belief that the heart is the source of so much more. Howard Martin, of the Heart Math Institute, is an expert in the head and heart connection. He and co-founder, Doc Childre, have been studying the heart and developing systems to help humanity heal for thirty years. Through their scientific studies of the heart and its relationship to the brain, they’ve discovered powerful ways of regulating emotions, reducing stress, improving health, improving decisiveness, and improving adaptability to change. For businesses this translates in to improved return on investment as staff are more productive and healthcare costs are down. In short, the heart Math techniques improve a person’s ability to carry dignity and nobility throughout their day.

    Expert actions steps:

Practice the quick coherence technique, 3 times a day for the next 2 weeks. Check out the free empowering resources on the heartmath.org website. Buy the emWave device to increase productivity, lower stress, improve decisiveness, improve health, and it’s also known to lower blood pressure.

  • “Values are something that can and must be learned on a regular basis.”

In life and in business, it’s worth taking time to ask yourself, “How are my values reflected in my attitudes and behaviours”. Or, “Is what I’m about to do or say consistent with my ideal of my best self?”. Doing this will bring your values to the surface where they can play a direct role in the outcomes of your life, rather than sitting in the background, undefined, where they can either guide you or not. Some people or groups get caught on a slippery slope when they aren’t clear on their values. When values are defined and we maintain them at the forefront of our minds, they are a tool to measure our thoughts and actions. From here we can cultivate integrity and strength of character. It becomes easier to identify negative patterns like complaining or when ego is getting carried away. We can close the gap between our values and how we actually show up in the world.

Join Raymond and today’s guest, Joe Tye for a BRILLIANT conversation exploring these principles.

Joe Tye lives in Solon, Iowa. He is a speaker, coach, and author of several books including, The Twelve Core Action Values of Personal Leadership Effectiveness, and, Never Fear, Never Quit. He is the CEO of Paradox 21. He’s a Stanford MBA and the former executive of a large healthcare system. He has also formed several non-profit organizations.

    Expert action steps

Print out the Self Empowerment Pledge, make copies of it, pay attention to it, and make these promises to yourself everyday for at least a month.

    Printouts can be found here.

Get together with your spouse, or your whole family or by yourself, and crystallize what are your most important values. Think about how they’re reflected in your attitudes and behaviours.

Another resources for these values comes from author, Laurie Beth Jones, in her book The Path.

Welcome adversity. Create breadth of mind by being thankful for life’s challenges. Trust that challenges will bring opportunities. Read Michael Crosby’s book Thank God Ahead of Time, to help you understand this principle.
