A project to upgrade the technology network crucial to highway safety and responding to crashes has hit such big problems it had to be redesigned and rebuilt The network has now gone live, but other weak tech safety systems at NZTA remain in limbo despite the "critical risk" from hacking or breaking down. The government is promising to fix the housing crisis by flooding the market with affordable homes and driving down prices. They're calling it an ambitious agenda with six key changes including freeing up land by making city councils provide at least 30 years of demand at any one time. It will be easier for cities to grow both out and up and there will be no rules limiting how small apartments can be. The Housing Minister Chris Bishop says people often complain to him about shoebox apartments but it's better than living in a car a great way for students and young professionals to get into the housing market. Secondary school teachers say the government is taking too long to release official information about charter schools, making it hard for anybody to make a well-informed select committee submission - submissions close on the 25th of July. The PPTA Te Wehengarua has complained to the Ombudsman about the delay, but the Ministry of Education says it's proactively releasing the information The secondary teachers' union president Chris Abercrombie spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.

Antarctica New Zealand has released a new, scaled-back plan for the redevelopment of Scott Base. The troubled project was paused last year after it failed to reached an agreement with its preferred main contractor. The redevelopment came with an initial price tag of 250 million dollars but has since blown out to 498 million. Antarctica New Zealand's board chair Leon Grice spoke to Corin Dann.

One of Kainga Ora's outgoing Board members says she resigned after seeing Sir Bill English's review of Kainga Ora, which she says was ill-informed and contained a large number of factual errors. The state housing agency's chair Simon Moutter announced earlier this week that five board members and the chief executive were leaving. Philippa Howden-Chapman spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.

A property developer says a move to scrap size rules for apartments would run the risk of unbearably small houses becoming the new affordable. The government has announced new housing policies that promote increased urban density and new construction, including getting rid of minimum floor area and balcony requirements for apartments. Christchurch developer Vincent Holloway spoke to Corin Dann.
