  • Ever catch yourself 'out to impress', and behaving in ways you assume might gain approval over your usual behaviour? Ever notice how when we observe that trait in others, it's quite off-putting? Ever wonder why we can observe that in others, realise it's off-putting, and still catch ourselves doing it anyway? Human behaviour is a funny thing, and today Harps and I are chatting about exactly this.

Deep down, we hope you're impressed!

  • Dr. Mark Williams tells me that Still Face Syndrome is real - a consequence of our attention shifting from human interactions to digital devices. The terrifying part is that it's robbing infants of critical emotional development, with repercussions that are hard to imagine. This is just one of the mind-blowing facts Dr. Williams shares in this episode.

Who is Dr. Mark Williams? He's a rebellious high school dropout turned cognitive neuroscientist. Mark's own story is a testament to our ability to transform our lives at any point. From the nuances of human behavior to how our environment and interactions shape our perceptions and actions, Mark sheds light on the critical role of emotions, the subconscious impact of our mirror neurons, and the silent epidemic of device addiction affecting our kids.

Join us for an eye-opening chat about the unseen forces guiding our everyday lives and the steps we can take to foster healthier connections and habits.

  • In this episode I'm welcoming back Sergeant Mark Thomas, the legend behind The Code 9 Foundation, and we're talking about complexities of identity, trauma, and resilience, particularly within the realm of first responders. Mark shares how he navigates managing his PTSI (PTSD) while simultaneously continuing to serve in the Victoria Police and discusses the importance of separating work identity from personal life for mental health and wellbeing.

Our chat explores the challenges of being in a high-stress job and running a foundation that supports others in similar situations, without getting entangled in politics or organisational conflicts. Mark highlights the emotional rollercoaster that comes with his responsibilities around this and the importance of finding balance and maintaining his own support system.

This episode offers insights, anecdotes, and practical advice for anyone dealing with trauma, or supporting others in their healing journey. Tune in as we aim to shed some light on the human side of first responders.

  • Another cracking chat with the wonderful Kerryn Vaughan as we explore some fundamental questions that shape our lives. We explore our values, our character, and why we often sweat the small stuff. And speaking of small, why do we tend to play small in life?

In this episode, we get philosophical about how to live well and navigate the inevitable hormonal rollercoaster (a journey I’m just beginning myself). It’s a discussion filled with fun and profound insights.

  • Imagine riding a motorcycle at a breathtaking speed of 270 kph. Now, picture doing it with your eyes closed, unable to see a thing! That’s the reality for Ben Felton, who couldn’t see a thing even before he even got on the bike. Teaming up with Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix legend Kevin Magee - who has an impressive 36 Grand Prix races under his belt and is the winner of the 1988 Spanish Grand Prix - Ben set out to become the world's fastest blind man on a motorcycle. And in true legendary fashion, they achieved this remarkable feat in March 2018.

Today, I’m chatting with these incredible lads about their personal and shared journeys. From Kevin’s brain surgeries to Ben being told at 15 that he was going blind and there was nothing he could do about it, their stories are nothing short of inspiring.

This is an epic conversation that breaks down barriers, redefines what’s truly possible, and puts the ‘ability’ back into disability.

  • The episode title might sound intense, but the reality is that these kinds of things are happening around us every day, and someone has to handle it. Many times, that someone was former Detective Narelle Fraser (and wow, what a powerhouse she is). She’s definitely not what I expected when I sat down to talk with someone who's been at the coalface of some of Australia’s most high-profile and horrific criminal cases.

We delved deep into her unique and intense 27-year career with Victoria Police, where she shared her experiences in the most challenging units, including the rape, homicide, and missing persons squads. Narelle's combined experience and perspective are nothing short of fascinating as she opens up about facing unimaginable trauma, dealing with the stigma of mental health, and transitioning from being a police detective to a mental health advocate. Her raw honesty and passion for helping others are just a few of the reasons why this episode is a must-listen.

So, grab your headphones, get comfy, and join us as we explore Narelle’s epic story. You won't want to miss it!

  • Another brilliant chat with the wonderful, brutally honest and ever insightful Mark LeBusque in the bag today! We explore our 'stop and go' stories, you know the ones that hold us back or propel us forward, but often run on their own accord in our heads and dictate our behaviour. I discover my internal 'little miss nobody' identity (have you got one of those too?).

How do we get out of our own way? How do we break the cycle? How do we develop the skill of intuition? He never fails to get real and raw with me in these chats and I love it to bits. (Free coaching, hey!)

  • Today, I had the pleasure of talking with Gavin McCormack and his brilliant friend, Dan Lakis, diving deep into the world of education and learning. What could unfold if us 'grown-ups' and our traditional 'the-way-it's-always-been-done' philosophy stood back for a second to consider taking a new approach to teaching and developing the minds of the next generation?

The lads and I explored the profound impact of connection, empathy, and real-world learning experiences. Gavin shared his journey from being a teacher (as we've previously discussed his Montessori method) to leading impactful projects that transform lives. Dan introduced innovative approaches to spark critical thinking and creativity in students. Did I mention Dan was the founding Vice Principal of Ad Astra, Elon Musk's school at SpaceX? (Just sayin').

We talked about the critical impact of building trust, fostering creativity, and empowering children to take ownership of their learning. Gavin's stories highlighted how connecting with students on a personal level can significantly enhance their educational experience, and Dan's insights on promoting curiosity and critical thinking were absolute eye-openers. (Where were these blokes when I was chained to the classroom?)

Just like my last banter with Gavin, this one sparked so much of my interest around how we think, learn, create, and impact the world we live in. You're going to love it!!

  • Upon meeting Sean Turnell, I can tell you first impressions sure don't conjure up an image of a prisoner. He's brimming with enthusiasm, optimism, and an undeniable zest for life. In fact, Sean had me somewhat perplexed at how he could be so cheerful as someone who had recently been thrown into one of Southeast Asia's most notorious prisons for 650 days (Myanmar), charged with being a spy and violating the country's official state secrets act.

A Sydney-born economist, Sean admits his comfortable academic background certainly didn't prepare him for the physical and mental conditions he was thrust into facing when he served 2ish of his 3-year sentence. We banter about the mental toolkit, the strategies and mindset that served Sean throughout his experience, and the impact of the media amidst the chaos.

I adored chatting with Sean, I hope you enjoy the conversation too!

  • Join me for a meander down a deep rabbit hole of contemplation about this grand little thing we call 'life'. This journey we're sitting in the middle of (or the beginning, or maybe closer to the end than we even know). What I do know is that we seldom pause to reflect on how fleeting it really is. How insignificant we really are (in relationship to the significant worry and anxiety we allow ourselves to revel in). And how vast our options on how to 'live' it really are.

This thought stemmed from a recent post I made on social media, today I recite that post with some additional thoughts and a handful of questions you might find valuable to ask yourself if you feel inclined to partake.

    Enjoy!

  • Love. What a minefield it seems to be! People falling in and out of it, chasing it, dreaming of it, yearning for it, crying about it, running from it and some even downright avoiding it at all costs (What? Don't look at me like that.. I have pets!).

Jillian Turecki shares thoughts, ideas, suggestions and often, compelling hard truths on her Instagram to her 2 million followers, and so after appreciating her pearls of wisdom there for quite some time I thought I best get to on the show to help us all figure this thing out.

What IS love? being my first question of all. We talk about what love is (and isn't). What's important in relationships, what's tripping us up, culture, chemistry, infidelity, bad advice, and plenty more.

    Tune in lovers!!

  • In this chat, I sit down with hip-hop artist Donny Pelsoczy, who rocks the mic under the alias Eloquor, which means to shout out or express one's self. He's joined by his long-time friend and producer, Seven Six (7'6), and together we dive into the depths of their musical adventures and the powerful bond they've developed along the way. Donny shares how he's been in the game for over 15 years, starting out with pivotal help from 7'6 at his studio.

We get into how they've navigated both their professional relationship alongside what has become a deep friendship, weathering storms including a significant fall out and eventual reconciliation. They open up about the essence of collaboration, and how it's not just about the music but really about vibing with the right person. Throughout our banter, it’s pretty clear that these two are not just making tracks together; they're crafting life's soundtrack through their own trials, errors, and triumphs.

This episode is all about partnership, the passion behind the production, and how true connections can turn beats into anthems.

    Check them out!

So, what is it? I hear you say... Thanks for asking! It's a technique that lives at the intersection of daydreaming, emotion and flow state... A technique that Summer has identified to be a kind of magic elixir that does some pretty awesome things around healing and manifestation.

  • In this cracking episode of the show, we are blessed with the brilliant mind of Professor Jayashri Kulkarni, a titan in the world of women's mental health. Jayashri breaks down the intricate dance between hormones and mental health like nobody else. She's not just the top dog at the Monash Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre, she's also been on the front lines, pioneering research that digs into how our hormonal roller coasters can throw a wrench in our mental well-being.

We chat about her groundbreaking work (the Prof has not only penned over 200 research papers, but also pushed the boundaries of psychoneuroendocrinology).

Get ready to unpack everything from the nitty-gritty of brain chemistry, it's relationship with the impacts of early life trauma, and how to 'best' navigate the management of the mental, emotional and perhaps biological turbulence that can strike at any time of women's lives (yeah, hello menopause). Jayashri shares her wisdom on why a one-size-fits-all approach just doesn’t cut it for women’s mental health, and why tailored treatments are the game-changer we need.

Strap in ladies, because this episode is packed with insights that'll change the way you think about mental health and hormones!

  • Good grief... how many of us have been holding out for that perfect moment to transform our lives? Be it our situation, circumstances, lifestyle, career, habits, health, or outcomes. Here we seem to be yearning for improvement & change, but all too often finding ourselves continually engaging in counterproductive behaviors that only set us back. We squander time, talent, energy, and opportunities, ultimately engaging in those all too familiar acts of self-sabotage and self-destruction.

What is it that puts an end to this cycle? Perhaps now is the time.

  • In this episode I had the opportunity to sit down once again with Rae Bonney, a passionate and proactive advocate for men's health. Our discussion dives into the critical need for inclusive health policies that specifically address men's mental health. Rae highlights the startling gap in global health policies - very few countries have frameworks that adequately address this issue. She shared insights from her work with organisations that collaborate closely with the World Health Organisation to push for necessary reforms. Rae's dedication to this cause is truly inspiring, and it reminded me of the powerful impact advocacy can have on public health initiatives.

  • When I refer to the 'girls,' I'm not talking about your friends but rather the 'girls' on your chest!

Suzie Betts is making waves with Boob Armour, her pioneering product designed for women in contact sports. As someone from this field myself, it was a revelation to discover that breast protection had never crossed my path in the decade-plus I've spent both delivering and dodging punches.

In our conversation, we delve into the journey of turning an idea into a tangible product and the challenges of navigating the market to launch it successfully. Suzie has been through this process more than once, and I find it incredibly insightful, especially for women bringing ideas to market in the sports sector, which is often still viewed and dominated through a male perspective.
