  • In today's episode, I am happy to welcome Zohra Bouhmedhel from EPEX Spot and Denny Wientzek from the European Energy Exchange AG. We are going to discuss the overlap of energy law and financial markets regulation. Energy law governs various aspects of energy production, distribution, and consumption, while financial markets regulation ensures transparency, stability, and fairness in financial transactions. Understanding this overlap is essential for policymakers, industry professionals, and investors alike to navigate the evolving energy landscape and foster sustainable and efficient energy markets. Let`s see what my two guests have to say about it.

  • In today's episode, I am thrilled to have Dr. Wolfgang Urbantschitsch, Executive Director of E-Control Austria, as our special guest. Amongst other topics, we will be exploring the role of national regulatory authorities in energy markets. According to the electricity market directive and the gas market directive, each Member State shall designate a single regulatory authority at national level. Further, Member States shall guarantee the independence of the regulatory authority and shall ensure that it exercises its powers impartially and transparently – key requirements that sometimes even challenge the Members States` constitutional framework. Lots of fun with this episode!
