Iggy Pop is a rock music icon. Frontman and songwriter with The Stooges, one of the most influential American bands of the 1960's and beyond who were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2010, Iggy has released 17 solo albums while extending his career into record production, writing and acting.
In 1983 I was privileged to spend time with this remarkable bloke for this interview I'd like to share with you on The Music Show.
Prior to rolling the tape we were chatting over cups of tea during which I asked if he minded if I referred to him by his Christian name Jim, (he was born James Osterberg Jr.) which he told me he preferred.
As you'll hear, Iggy/Jim is a fascinating character, happy to talk about his early days as a drummer in Detroit where he formed The Stooges, recording in Berlin with his friend David Bowie and how he sometimes referred to jazz legend Charlie Parker when collaborating in the studio with his musicians.
On April 21st of this year,2019,Iggy Pop celebrated his 72nd birthday on stage during the Melbourne leg of his sold out Australian tour.
Next year, 2020 will mark the 60th.anniversary of this rock music legend's career as a professional musician.

In this edition of THE MUSIC SHOW I'd like to share with you an interview I conducted in 1981 with American singer/songwriter Rodriguez.
Born in Detroit, Michigan in 1942, Rodriguez recorded two albums in the early 1970's, "Cold Fact" and "Coming From Reality", neither of them finding an audience in the US. But they did become extremely popular here in Australia, and Rodriguez toured here in 1979 and 1981, appearing at the Tanelorn Festival in NSW alongside Midnight Oil, Split Enz and Men at Work. He virtually disappeared after that, until 2012 when his story was told in the Academy Award-winning documentary "Searching for Sugar Man". -
