  • its POP CULTURE THURSDAY!! This week on the JTrain Podcast, it's a Pop Culture Thursday, and Jared Freed dives into stories from Page Six, touching on everything from his upcoming comedy special to Tom Brady’s rocky transition into broadcasting. Jared gives listeners an inside look at his special taping on December 7th at Tarrytown Music Hall and reflects on the complexities of preparing new material while holding on to the tried and tested bits.

He also discusses the evolution of Tom Brady’s career, from his underdog beginnings to his current role as a Fox analyst, offering his own thoughts on Brady's transformation into a hustle-culture icon. Tom Brady has replaced Greg Olsen, who had rave reviews for his work during last season’s Super Bowl. Jared explores Brady’s transition from NFL legend to broadcaster and the weight of his $375 million contract. He reflects on Brady’s career shift, highlighting how Brady has gone from underdog to GOAT, and now faces the unique challenge of stepping into the shoes of someone beloved by fans.🙌

Jared questions how Brady feels about replacing someone like Olsen, who performed exceptionally well. He humorously compares Brady’s situation to that of Mitch Trubisky, noting how Brady’s fame and paycheck inevitably heighten the scrutiny he faces in this new role. Along the way, Jared also discusses the pressures of living up to expectations and how even a giant like Brady has to grapple with that reality.

The episode continues with Jared's response to watching the debate. Focusing on Kamala Harris’s approach and how it contrasts with other candidates. The host praises Harris’s emphasis on concrete numbers and rational discourse, highlighting her line about serving the American people as a refreshing change from the usual political rhetoric.

The conversation then shifts to a humorous take on recent celebrity news, specifically Elon Musk’s bizarre offer to Taylor Swift following her endorsement of Kamala Harris. The host examines the peculiarities of Musk's statement and its reception by fans, before delving into a review of Taylor Swift’s clever response to a misleading AI endorsement.

The episode wraps up with a look at some quirky tabloid stories, including Dax Shepard’s playful denial of swinger rumors and a headline about Luann de Lesseps’ defense of Shannon Beador in a facelift-related spat. The host shares insights on these stories, adding a comedic twist to the pop culture commentary.

  • It's CHIT CHAT WEDNESDAY!! 🙌 Jared has the hilarious Mike Cannon and he's on to chat and promote his new comedy special, Traumatized Animal ! In this candid and humorous episode, our guest opens up about the challenges of being a stand-up comedian with limited reach and the struggle to break through without a massive following. They touch on the evolution of entertainment, how conversations used to bring people together, and how the internet now often fuels division and conflict, especially in the comedy realm. The episode dives into the complexity of intention and success in the comedy industry, touching on issues like balancing career aspirations with family life and handling online criticism.

As Mike is now a father of 2, they open up about the insecurities that come with parenting in the public eye, specifically the debate over posting their child on social media. They acknowledge that decisions like using emojis to hide their child’s face are projections of their own uncertainty rather than judgments on others.

The episode continues with a lighthearted look at childhood memories, fitness after 40, and the absurdity of internet culture, where people often attack instead of celebrate. The conversation shifts to the rise of "scroll culture" and how social media has shifted interpersonal dynamics, fostering dismissiveness even in real-life situations like live shows.

With a mix of humor and vulnerability, this episode offers a candid look at the guest’s journey through comedy, fatherhood, and the often bizarre realities of modern life. Whether discussing the ridiculousness of online interactions or recounting a story of an on-stage brawl at a Chicago show! it's a fun episode with old friends. Check it out on YouTube too!

  • It's Ticked Off Tuesday! Jared reads listener complaints and gives them the validation they deserve. Jared kicks off the show with his own rant about his recent experience at Barry’s Bootcamp—now simply called "Barry's" to appeal to a wider crowd. From miscommunications at the gym to awkward encounters with fellow workout enthusiasts, Jared humorously vents his frustrations and breaks down the marketing shift that’s trying to reel in reluctant participants. As the episode progresses, the host shares updates about their upcoming special taping in Tarrytown, New York, expressing both excitement and frustration about the production process.

The discussion then shifts to a listener complaint about app confusion and customer service frustrations, particularly focusing on an unfulfilled order for a watch. The listener details a series of frustrating interactions with the company's customer service, including impersonal AI responses and a lack of clarity regarding the order's status.

Another listener's frustration regarding their friend’s bridal shower being scheduled on their birthday. Jared empathizes with the listener's annoyance, explaining how the timing appears inconsiderate and reflecting on the lack of communication from the friend about the scheduling conflict.

The episode then transitions to another complaint about a travel app mishap. The host recounts their recent flight experience where they were upgraded to a middle seat despite requesting otherwise. They delve into the frustrating customer service interactions and the complications of managing seat upgrades through the app. The discussion also touches on the broader issue of service quality and the challenges faced by frequent travelers.

  • It's Monday AKA Mailbag Monday 🙌 📩Jared starts off venting about his frustrating experience trying to sign up for a Barry's Bootcamp class. What started as a simple decision to work out quickly spirals into a whole thing trying to figure out their apps and malfunctioning passwords. You're trying to commit to fitness, only to be bogged down by small inconveniences that leave him questioning the whole endeavor. He also dives into the psychological toll of attending fitness classes where insecurity creeps in. Is this Ticked Off Tuesday?😅

From there, Jared goes into sharing stories from his recent trip to Chicago, including an awkward fan interaction at a baseball game that left him feeling bloated and off his game. Jared then offers advice to a listener whose boyfriend, a freelance voice actor and podcaster, wants to lease a separate studio apartment for work. Jared sympathizes with the listener’s concerns about this being a potential red flag, exploring how the timing and reasoning for this new space might feel suspicious. He acknowledges the delicate balance between trusting a partner and addressing valid unease. Jared advises the listener to focus on the timing of the request and how it made them feel, rather than jumping to conclusions about trust or cheating. He highlights the importance of addressing how the sudden change affects the relationship dynamic and emphasizes that it's reasonable to feel off-put by such a last-minute decision. Jared also touches on personal experiences, sharing how he views relationship progression, and encourages open communication to better understand each other’s intentions.

He then answers a guy concerned about how to handle the awkwardness around splitting the bill on dates. Jared gives his own approach to paying and how he interprets the other person's insistence on splitting. He stresses maintaining a positive tone and making the other person feel appreciated for their time, while also acknowledging that some might want to split the bill to signal they’re not interested in a second date. Do you like splitting the bill? What are your thoughts?!!

Jared goes on to read about Johnny Depp and Rachael Ray. Johnny Depp, now 61, recently debuted new pearly white teeth, a huge change from his previously  viral "rotting teeth" photos that went viral during the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. Fans noticed the transformation when Depp was seen interacting with them in the Bahamas, sparking speculation that he might have gotten veneers. Interestingly, Depp had previously expressed disdain for "perfect teeth" and boasted about poor dental hygiene, but he now seems to have embraced the change.

Meanwhile, Rachael Ray faced criticism on social media after a recent Instagram cooking video where fans speculated about her health, with some suggesting she may have had a stroke due to her slurred speech. Despite these concerns, Ray did not address them directly, and her post focused on sharing a new recipe. Some users defended Ray, attributing her slurred speech to aging, while others remained worried. Jared highlights how public scrutiny can easily shift the narrative, even when celebrities may have innocent intentions.

  • It's Monday AKA Mailbag Monday 🙌 📩 In this episode of the JTrain podcast, Jared dives deep into a listener's dilemma about dealing with their best friend's misbehaving kids during a vacation. Jared offers a nuanced approach, advising the listener to separate opinions from facts, particularly when addressing behaviors like the "slam the door" game. He humorously reflects on how he might navigate such a situation as an outsider without kids, focusing on being inquisitive rather than accusatory. Jared emphasizes understanding the dynamics of different parenting styles and how, despite differing approaches, friendship remains strong as long as communication is open.

He also discusses how people often turn to clinical explanations as a defense mechanism when confronted about their kids' behavior. Jared shares how he'd handle the situation by asking questions like, "Do you play slam the door at home?" and suggests addressing the issue with humor and curiosity rather than judgment. This episode offers a mix of practical advice and laughs, reminding listeners that even in the trickiest situations, there's always a way to maintain the friendship.

Plus, Jared touches on the concept of "emotional masturbation," where people get ahead of themselves in relationships, trying to impress or avoid rejection by planning elaborate events. He explores how this can sometimes lead to frustration and shares his thoughts on managing expectations and social dynamics.

  • In this week's JTrain podcast, Jared dives into a wide array of pop culture topics, starting with Lana Del Rey's rumored relationships, including her headline-grabbing link to Oklahoma cop Sean Larkin and more recently to country singer Clayton Johnson and Jack Donahue! Jared humorously questions how Lana meets her current rumored beau, Arthur Dufresne, a man working at an airboat tour company, making for a real-life version of an American Notting Hill.

The conversation then shifts to Blake Lively's recent drama surrounding her new movie, "It Ends With Us," adapted from Colleen Hoover's book. Jared dissects the controversy over promoting the film while plugging her beauty and alcohol brands, poking fun at how the rich and famous balance their different ventures.

Next, Salma Hayek stuns at 57 in a yellow bikini during her Ibiza trip, but Jared amusingly critiques how even the most stunning posts come with a side of humility. He also touches on Tori Spelling's recent podcast revelation that she dresses her son in school clothes before bed, delving into the world of PR agents and how they craft these types of stories for maximum exposure.

Finally, Jared wraps up with a nod to Sarah Jessica Parker's return to Carrie Bradshaw's iconic wardrobe for the new season of "And Just Like That" and Cyndi Crawford's effortless beauty captured makeup-free.

  • It's Ticked Off Tuesday with your host Jared Freid! A special segment of the podcast where Jared encourages listeners to send in their grievances. From minor annoyances to major life issues, Jared provides a space for people to feel heard and validated. It's a cathartic experience for both Jared and his audience, allowing them to laugh through their frustrations!

In this episode, Jared addresses a listener's complaint about their gym experience. The listener shares their frustration with how their gym handles overcrowding and the lack of available equipment, which disrupts their workout routine. Jared discusses how important it is for gyms to manage their spaces effectively, ensuring that members get the value they expect. He highlights how these issues can make going to the gym feel more stressful than beneficial and suggests that clear communication and proper management could improve the experience for everyone.

We get another email where Jared responds to a listener's frustration over a disappointing chicken Caesar salad order. The listener received a salad with an overwhelming amount of lettuce, a tiny portion of chicken, and no room to mix the ingredients properly. Jared sympathizes with the complaint, pointing out how important it is for restaurants to balance portions and presentation, especially when charging premium prices. He critiques the lack of care in assembling the salad, emphasizing that dining out should be a satisfying experience rather than one that leaves you feeling shortchanged.

Jared discusses the importance of knowing exactly what you're getting when offered something for free, emphasizing that clarity and full explanations make the experience better. He compares this to frustrating experiences in grocery stores where sale items don't ring up correctly, leading to awkward interactions with store employees and other customers. This leads into a larger conversation about the emotional aspects of sales and how much people value the feeling of getting a good deal. Jared shares a listener's story about their boyfriend's experience shopping for sale items while on a business trip, only to find out the sale signs were outdated due to staff shortages. Jared ties this all together with a reflection on how frustrating it is when businesses take away the good feeling you get from a sale and how important it is to feel like you're getting something that others aren't. He wraps up the episode with a Tick Off Tuesday about a disappointing chicken Caesar salad that didn't live up to expectations.

  • Today’s episode dives into a Labor Day-themed conversation as Jared reflects on the unofficial end of summer and its significance. He humorously muses over how his internal calendar is still tied to the school year, even without kids, and ponders the weirdness of planning for Labor Day.

In this episode, Jared tackles a listener who wants to dump her guy because of his dog! We get an email where the listener is uncomfortable with how her date, Jason, handles his dog during their walks. From the labordoodle, Max, weaving through pedestrians to making people nervous, Jason’s carefree attitude and lack of control over Max begin to bother her. Jared breaks down the nuances of the situation, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and respecting others' fears, even if you believe your dog is harmless.

Another listener writes in about a new guy. After her recent divorce, she was cautious about intimacy, but when her date mentioned wanting a relationship, she assumed it was safe to go to his house. However, things didn’t go as planned, leaving her feeling uncomfortable and unsure about his intentions.

Jared delves into the nuanced and often vague language people use in relationships, like "I see myself falling for you," which can sometimes be a way to buy time rather than genuinely commit. He stresses the importance of setting personal boundaries and communicating them clearly, especially when past experiences make you cautious. Jared also discusses why it's essential to walk away from situations that don't align with your standards, even when the lines between casual dating and a committed relationship are blurred.

  • In this episode of the JTrain Podcast, Jared Freid takes listeners through another edition of Pop Culture Thursday, filled with celebrity gossip and reflections on his own life!

Jared also shares insights into the challenges of balancing new material with preparing for a taped special. He discusses how this process has made him a better comedian, as he continues to refine his performances for the stage. The struggle of creating new content while ensuring his existing material is ready for recording offers a glimpse into the complexities of stand-up comedy.

A major highlight of the episode is Jared's deep dive into the world of celebrity couples, particularly the ongoing fascination with Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez . He explores why their rekindled romance captivates audiences and why people are so intrigued by their relationship. Jared also talks about the engraved message on J.Lo's ring, which has sparked even more interest in their love story.

The episode then shifts to a discussion about privilege in the music industry, sparked by the news of two billionaire heirs, Jake Loeb and Henry Cornell Jr., performing at Montauk's Surf Lodge. Jared humorously critiques the notion of wealthy offspring pursuing artistic careers without acknowledging their privilege. He suggests that if you're born into immense wealth and choose to become an artist, you should at least have the self-awareness to own that identity—perhaps even naming the band something like "Nepo Babies." Jared dives deeper into the pressures and challenges of pursuing a creative career, especially when financial security isn’t a concern. He contrasts this with the reality most people face, where taking a shot at a dream involves significant risk and sacrifice.

Jared also explores Henry Cornell Jr.'s music, sharing his thoughts on the production and autotune used in the tracks. He believes the young artist would benefit from a more stripped-down sound to showcase his real talent, rather than relying on heavy production. He imagines himself advising these young, privileged artists on how to present themselves more authentically to the public.

The episode also touches on the topic of dating in the public eye, with a story about Hoda Kotb ending a brief romance with a mystery man who was dealing with a complicated personal situation. Jared appreciates Hoda's decision to prioritize simplicity and avoid getting entangled in drama. He admires her strong sense of self and speculates on what it must be like to date when you have a life as full and successful as hers. Ultimately, Jared emphasizes the importance of finding someone who adds to your life rather than complicating it.

it's a fun episode! tell us what you want to hear on next week's pop culture thursday ep!

  • In this lively Chit Chat Wednesday episode of the JTrain Podcast, Jared is joined by a close friend and former college roommate, Gamblin Thunder Dan, for a trip down memory lane and some wild sports talk. Broadcasting from the heart of Manhattan's West Village, Jared welcomes his guest with open arms, as they dive into hilarious stories from their days at Penn State and beyond🙌

The episode kicks off with a discussion about the psychology of watching sports at bars, revealing that it’s not always about the love for the game—it’s about the money on the line! Jared and Dan swap tales of their betting escapades, including a high-stakes trip to Vegas that left them both on the edge of their seats. The two start to reminisce about the golden age of gambling in their mid-twenties, sharing anecdotes of shared bets and the camaraderie that came with it. From betting on the Patriots to diving into sports strategies, they touch on the ups and downs of the gambling world and how their habits have changed over the years.

Dan takes us on a deep dive into a story about scuba diving with some unexpected heroes—older men from an apartment above who agree to help them retrieve lost items in the water. Their adventurous spirit and the lengths they go to for a bet make for a fascinating and funny tale that perfectly captures the essence of their friendship.

In addition to the entertaining stories, they get into the nitty-gritty of football—talking teams, players, and upcoming seasons. From discussing the glory days of Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger to analyzing the current quarterback controversies, they provide insights that any football fan would appreciate. Jared’s guest even shares a fun tidbit about his nephew, who’s just getting into football and always wants to know who they’re rooting for.

The episode also covers some predictions for the upcoming NFL season, with a focus on the Bills, Dolphins, and Patriots. Jared and his guest debate whether the Dolphins' offense will continue to surprise teams or if the NFL will have figured them out by now. They also touch on the pressures that come with being a top player like Josh Allen, comparing him to other NFL greats like Patrick Mahomes.

Finally, they wrap up with thoughts on the changing nature of football schedules, how to balance life and sports fandom, and some of the best cities to watch a game—Vegas, New Orleans, and Morgantown, West Virginia, all make the list.

Whether you’re into gambling, football, or just love a good story about friendship and adventure, this episode has something for everyone. Tune in for a ride through the past and present with Jared and his special guest, and get ready to laugh, reminisce, and maybe even place a bet or two.

  • In this episode of the Luxury Lounge, AKA TICKED OFF TUESDAY, Jared opens up with some standout complaints that many can relate to. The first is all about elevators—why is it that people feel the need to rush into a packed elevator, squeezing in like they're Indiana Jones on a mission? Jared suggests a simple solution: let it go. Wait for the next one. It's not a race, and it would make everyone's life easier if we just let that elevator go and wait for the next one.

Next, Jared tackles a gym annoyance that hits home—chatty gym goers during a workout class. He describes the frustration of trying to focus during a high-intensity interval training session while a group of moms turns the class into their social hour. With the class size maxed out at 16 people, the chatter becomes a major distraction, making it hard for others to concentrate on the workout.

Lastly, he dives into a controversial wedding topic: Venmoing the bride. Jared explores the awkwardness of having to send money digitally as a gift or contribution, which, while convenient, often feels impersonal and adds an extra layer of social complexity to an already loaded event. How much do you send? What’s the etiquette? It's a modern dilemma that many listeners will understand all too well.

This is the safe place to complain!! This is Luxury Lounge!!

  • Jared dives into a whirlwind of hot topics and celebrity news. First up, he dissects the aftermath of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee's appeal regarding Jordan Chiles’ bronze medal. Despite submitting video evidence showing that the challenge was filed within the 60-second window, the international sports court rejected the appeal, leading to Chiles having to relinquish her medal. Jared is baffled by the court’s decision, questioning the appeal process and the handling of evidence. What are your thoughts??

Shifting gears, Jared addresses the controversy surrounding Blake Lively's response to questions about her film It Ends With Us, which tackles sensitive themes of domestic violence. He explores Lively’s flippant reaction during interviews and contrasts it with her co-star Justin Baldoni’s more thoughtful approach. Jared reflects on how celebrities should handle such topics with care, emphasizing the responsibility they carry in these discussions.

In lighter fare, Jared touches on the passing of Broadway star Peter Marshall and Scarlett Johansson's skincare line, The Outset. He praises Johansson’s glowing appearance and humorously critiques the PR tactics behind celebrity beauty products, comparing them to more accessible options.

Join Jared for a captivating episode that blends insightful commentary on hot topics with a dash of celebrity intrigue, leaving you both informed and entertained.

  • We have Brittany Schmitt this week! Jared & Brittany dive into the contrasts of living in Beverly Hills versus Venice Beach. Brittany reflects on moving from the creative, yet chaotic, Venice to the safer but mundane Beverly Hills. As they exchange stories, Brittany shares an unusual encounter with a man on a unicycle wielding a machete, highlighting the unpredictability of her previous neighborhood😅

The conversation then shifts into Brittany's journey into comedy, starting with her background in advertising. She opens up about her personal life, from her challenging family dynamics and her mother's tragic passing to navigating sobriety and a divorce. Humor, she explains, has been a crucial tool for processing pain, especially when tackling sensitive subjects like her mother's suicide.

They also touch on the complexities of modern dating, including encounters with various sexual preferences and relationship structures. Brittany humorously recounts dating experiences on apps like Hinge, navigating the landscape of ethical non-monogamy, and the shifting definitions of sexuality.

Throughout the episode, Brittany emphasizes the importance of pursuing her comedy career, even if it came at the expense of her marriage. She balances deep reflections with sharp humor, making this episode a blend of personal growth, resilience, and laughs.

Don't miss out on this candid and entertaining conversation—tune in for a mix of heartfelt moments and comedic gold that will leave you thinking, laughing, and maybe even reflecting on your own journey.

  • Welcome to another session of the Luxury Lounge, where no complaint is too big, too small, or too frivolous to be heard! First up, Jared's LL! Jared kicks off with a complaint about a peculiar gift from Spotify after attending the Cannes Festival. Among the items sent was a sunglass case—oddly, without the sunglasses—and a pool float, which only added to the clutter of his small New York apartment. The absurdity of receiving a pool float without owning a pool highlights the impracticality of some luxury gifts.

Jared also tackles a luxury problem involving a listener who frequently receives emails meant for others due to sharing the same name as several individuals. The inconvenience of mistakenly receiving personal emails like medical test results or school deadlines underscores the downside of having a common name in the digital age.

Another listener writes in about the frustrations of endless tapas dinners, where sharing 10 to 12 dishes leaves them longing for the satisfaction of enjoying their own entrée. Jared empathizes with the annoyance of having to conform to group dining preferences, especially when the meal is on the company’s dime.

The episode continues with a story about a three-week wait for prescription sunglasses, forcing the listener to endure sunny days by awkwardly stacking regular sunglasses over their prescription glasses. This complaint resonates with Jared, who humorously critiques the unfashionable and impractical look of double-glassing.

Tune in for Jared's hilarious takes on these and other luxury problems, as he finds a way to commiserate with each listener’s unique dilemmas.

To close the episode, Jared encourages listeners to keep sending in their luxury complaints, reminding them that no gripe is too small for the Lounge. Whether it’s the disappointment of a subpar luxury item, the complications of living with high-tech gadgets, or the letdown of an exclusive event, the Luxury Lounge is here to listen—and Jared is here to commiserate.

You'll never look at Italian food—or hot tubs—the same way again😂

But the episode takes a more serious turn as Jared tackles a listener’s story about discovering their girlfriend’s infidelity. The email details the heart-wrenching moment of finding out about the betrayal and the difficult emotions that follow. Jared approaches the situation with empathy, offering advice on how to cope with the pain and move forward. While he keeps the tone light with his signature humor, Jared also provides thoughtful insights on trust, communication, and the importance of self-respect in relationships.

With these two stories, the episode showcases the full range of human experience—from the absurd to the deeply personal.
