In the 21st century, overpopulation has become such a problem that scientists begin preparing for the colonization of Mars. Their first steps in the terraforming of Marsinvolve seeding the planet with moss in order to absorb the sunlight and create a hospitable atmosphere as well as increase the surface temperature. They also introduce cockroaches in order to spread the moss.
500 years later, in the year 2599, a crewed mission is sent to the red planet to clear out the cockroach colony in preparation for the human colonization of Mars. The crew is an international team of misfits and criminals who are given the opportunity to take part in the mission to gain forgiveness for their crimes.

In an attempt to colonize Mars, 21st century scientists are tasked with terraforming the planet. Their goal is to seed the planet with a modified algae to absorb sunlight and purify the atmosphere, and cockroaches, whose corpses spread the algae across the planet as they feed, breed, and die.
Five hundred years later, the first crewed ship to Mars lands and its six crew members are attacked by giant mutated humanoid cockroaches with incredible physical strength, later labeled "Terraformars"; the crew is wiped out after sending a warning back to Earth. Two years later, BUGS II, a multinational expedition of genetically modified humans, is sent to collect 10 samples of both sexes of roaches, and exterminate the mutated bugs to take control of the red planet. Only two survivors manage to return to Earth, one swearing to return and avenge their fallen companions. As a third expedition is assembled questions are raised about the true origin of the Terraformars and their connection with an unknown disease afflicting mankind, the Alien Engine Virus, or A.E. Virus. To fight the Terraformars' strength and agility, members of the second and third expedition undergo genetic modification to inherit the characteristics of other organisms, only possible after having a special organ implanted.

Yoko, a full cyborg, and Erika, part cyborg, are on a journey to experience all of the amenities Mars has to offer including but not limited to:
societal and atmospheric collapse as the result of past wars and devious alliances between corrupt kingdoms, bounty hunters, and other factionsbetrayal by friends, family, sworn protectors, and lovers alikeThe brutal murder of everything they love, including stuff that only exists in the mind Compelling, fleshed-out villains; some with tragic backstories, others with male energy befitting of a Greek letterLastly, all the kooky cyborgs, profuse German vernacular, and space Nazis
All of this takes place in a kinda neo-classic western, kinda post WW1, kinda dystopian cyberpunk atmosphere.

Today we’re covering the 2023 Kickstarter comic Vampire Hunter D: Message from Mars, an American project based on an otherwise untranslated and unpublished short story by the author of VHD himself, Hideyuki Kikuchi.
SPOILER ALERT SYNOPSIS maybe kinda don't sweat it
Message from Mars is told from the point of view of Cecile, a girl who could see the future, one of the human colonists on Mars. D arrives to find a colony that is little more than a blood farm. With Left Hand -his talking left hand with various unspecified abilities- by his side, D sets out to cleanse Mars of the vampiric scourge! We see the ascension of the Nobility in the aftermath of a nuclear war on Earth and a part of the beginning of D's journey as a vampire hunter. -

It's time to let loose just a smidge instead of always writing dissertations. Let's keep things shorter and more personal with the new Taquitos! Or mini-sodes. Look, I gotta keep it thematically complicated.
