  • Marijuana. Mary Jane. Pot. Dope. Grass. Weed. Bud. Flower. Hash. Ganja.

So many fun names, but really, we're talking about cannabis.

It is legal now in nearly half the country. Meanwhile, there might be a few things to consider when using cannabis with T1D.

Sami and Ginger aren't actually experienced cannabis users. (Could somebody please let Sami's mom know she only tried it once. We promise.) So we turn to a fellow T1D who is remarkably knowledgeable on all things cannabis: BJ Garceau!

BJ has lived with T1D for over 30 years. Today, she uses cannabis to manage ADHD, chronic pain, insomnia, and depression. She also has degrees and training in mental health and drug addiction recovery. BJ has extensive knowledge of cannabis, different uses, things to be aware of, and different methods of safely ingesting cannabis.

  • We know hundreds of people using Ozempic with type 1 diabetes — and the benefits are clear: insulin needs decrease, appetite calms down, blood sugars are easier to manage, A1c improves, time-in-range improves, etc. But actually getting Ozempic with T1D is still really difficult despite the obvious benefits.

In this episode, we talk about how people are getting doctors to write the scripts, insurance approval if the doctors are willing to do the prior authorization process OR how people are getting it when doctors and insurance won't cooperate.

  • Why are people with type 1 diabetes taking medications for type 2 diabetes? Actually, there are a dozen reasons why meds like Ozempic and metformin can help in managing T1D! Did you know there are five other hormones (beyond insulin) that your body doesn't produce properly with T1D? These medications can help your body compensate for the lack of those other hormones.
