In July and August on Woven, we are talking all things "play". For our July episode, we discuss our own barriers to play and the areas where we'd like to become more playful. We also challenge each other to do something playful over the next month.
To enhance our discussion, we also talk to Courtney Ellis, the author of Happy Now: Let Playfulness Lift Your Load and Renew Your Spirit. We talk with her about why it's so hard for adults, even Christian adults to play. We also discuss that Jesus cares about our play, and how playfulness can even be a spiritual discipline. She also shares with us some practical ways to boost play and joy in our everyday lives. Come back in August to hear the 2nd half of the interview!

Woven is taking a short break in June, but we still want to share a little something with our listeners. Since we're talking about fun and playfulness in our July and August episodes, we asked Christie Cuthbert, author and friend of Woven, to read an excerpt from her book Mom I Farted in Church for our June episode. Christie is an expert in finding the humor and fun in parenting. We hope you enjoy this reading, and check out Christie and all her work.

Bonus Episode! Our May episode comes out on Tuesday, but in honor of Mother's Day, we thought we'd drop a bonus discussion on mothering- different types of mothering, our strengths and weaknesses as mothers, the Proverbs 31 woman (spoiler alert: it's not what you think), and how Mother's Day isn't always the easiest day for a lot of people. Enjoy!

For our April episode, we process what it means to grow slowly in different aspects of our lives. We talk about the areas where we struggle to grow low and slow versus fast and flashy. We also interview Jennifer Dukes Lee about her new book Growing Slow: Lessons on Un-Hurrying Your Heart from an Accidental Farm Girl. In our third segment, we talk about gardening, slow cooking, and books that are helping us to lean into the spring "growing" season and Eastertide.
About Jennifer:
Jennifer Dukes Lee lives on the fifth-generation Lee family farm in Iowa, where she and her husband are raising crops, pigs, and two beautiful humans. She writes books, loves queso, and enjoys singing too loudly to songs with great harmony. Once upon a time, she didn't believe in Jesus; now he's her CEO. As we inch into spring, towards Easter, and slowly out of the COVID crisis, we talk about what we've learned in the past year and what it looks like to add things back into our lives after much has been stripped away. What does it mean to begin again?
We also interview home designer, Shannon Acheson, about her new book Home Made Lovely. Many of us during this pandemic have spent time reexamining our homes, because we've spent more time in them than ever. We've learned what it means to make a house a home, and how we can make our homes work better for our families. Also, as we move out of the pandemic, we get to reexamine how we practice hospitality in our homes. We talk about all of this and more with Shannon.
In our last segment we talk charcuterie, Tim Keller's new book on Easter, and more.

Our February episode is here, and so is Lent! That means it's time to do some Spring Cleaning, and we're not talking about the dusting the baseboards and cleaning out the pantry type of Spring Cleaning. This month, we discuss how to Spring Clean internally. What does it mean to unclutter our spirts, souls, hearts, minds, etc?
Joining us for the interview portion of this episode is Carla Gasser. Carla is the author of a new devotional entitled The Beauty of the Uncluttered Soul: Allowing God's Spirit to Transform You from the Inside Out. With Carla, we discuss what it means to unclutter our souls, but even more importantly, the fruit that uncluttering can produce in our lives. When we do the work, the fruit of God's Spirit can grow in us for His sake and for the sake of those around us.
We also discuss, practically, what we're giving up for Lent this year and share resources to help as you prepare to Spring Clean during the Lenten season.

For our Advent series this year, we are doing a 4-part series on the history behind some of the church's most beloved Christmas hymns. This week we're focusing on Hark! The Herald Angels Sing. This song is so theologically rich, and we pray that after you listen to this episode you also will have a deeper appreciation for this carol. Again this week, Erin Freeman joins us to sing her rendition of this week's song. Thanks Erin! And, thanks for being such an awesome friend of the show!

The Advent season is upon us! This year we are doing a 4-part series on the history behind some of our most beloved Christmas hymns. We'll learn about the people who wrote them, the stories behind the lyrics, and why we still sing them today. We'll also talk about our favorite versions of each song, and share some of our favorite Christmas albums. We know there is a lot about this year that will make the Advent season different than years past, but music is something that can remain timeless and untouched by the world around us. We pray this series will be a light in the darkness for you as you celebrate the season.
Our first song is O Come, O Come Emmanuel. We are grateful to Erin Freeman, friend of the show and faithful Patron, for singing each song of the series for us on our episodes. Thank you, Erin for sharing your beautiful gift with us and our listeners!

Next week is Thanksgiving, and while it's been a hard year for all; we also know we have so much to be grateful for even in difficult times. But, before we can truly experience hope, praise and gratitude, we have to learn how to grieve and lament. This week we discuss what defines Christian lament, the difference between lament and complaining, and what we are each lamenting right now. We pray that while it's an intense topic, we will all learn the prayer language of lament so we can more deeply experience gratitude. From us to you, Happy Thanksgiving!

We are one week out from Election Day! For some of us, this thought brings excitement and energy, for others this thought brings dread and despair. We all know we are called to fulfill our civic responsibilities, but what really is the Christian's role in politics and political discourse? No matter the outcome of the election, how can we be filled with grace and hope as we live in community and love our neighbor? We, here at Woven, do not have it all figured out, but instead are on our own journeys of learning what it means to be a Christian during rough and tense political seasons. We pray our discussion will help you as you process your own thoughts over the next week and beyond. And, GO VOTE!!!

We're back!!! After a very refreshing September Sabbatical, we are so excited to be back in your ears. This week we talk Boundaries and the Enneagram. Every year, as the holiday season approaches, we like to tackle the idea of boundaries as this seems to be a season, both time-wise and relationally, that learning to establish boundaries in our lives seems to be of great help for everyone. In this episode we not only tackle what it looks like to set boundaries with family and friends during the holidays, we also discuss what it looks like to have boundaries in other areas of our life including with social media, news, etc. We also dig into how each Enneagram type deals with boundaries and how they can play to their strengths this holiday season.
