If you're prepping for a salary negotiation, this is the episode for you! We're bringing you into the living room conversations we've been having in Maddy's share house over many a glasses of wine and cups of tea, and sharing how each of us has been preparing for our upcoming career chats.
On today's episode, Maddy and Sophie chat to Maddy's housemate Georgie Owen (aka @conceivingitall) about building a negotiation playbook, and how talking to your friends about salary can help you get a raise.
And if you'd like to learn more about negotiation, you can sign up to the course Maddy references throughout this episode - Negotiating for Yourself using our code YIGC for 15% off. We've all been there... When the vacay with your besties finally makes it out of the group chat, only to find that tensions are rising because you're all on different pages about money... Whether it be the friend that always wants to split the bill evenly despite consistently ordering the most expensive items, or the one that's eating everyone's leftovers but not ordering a meal for themselves. Each of these situations can be avoided (and many more in between) by having a simple conversation before you jet set off into the Euro sunset.
On today's episode, Maddy and Sophie chat to Alex Hourigan from Two Broke Chicks about their travel money saving hacks, travel story disasters, and how to avoid them.
And if you'd like to hear more from Alex, she and her co-host Sal just published their first book! You can buy Finding Your People: The ultimate guide to friendship here.

Ever caught yourself wondering, how on earth do they afford it? Well, there's a good chance it's thanks to the bank of Mum and Dad!
And yet, whether or not your friends are getting money from their parents is very rarely spoken about. Of course, there is a huge amount of privilege inherent in this conversation (which is probably why it's not common to say anything!), but when we avoid these conversations, we also fall into the trap of comparing ourselves and wondering what we're doing "wrong".
With cost of living challenges and house prices continuing to rise, more and more young people are relying on an inheritance or significant financial windfall from their parents to help them get ahead in life.
That's why on today's episode, we speak to none other than Maddy's mum Fi and Soph's dad Tony about how they, as our parents, would hypothetically want us to raise a conversation with them about inheritance and borrowing money, in away that is respectful to each individual's financial situation.
But the conversation doesn't end here... We want your thoughts!

You can't put a price on friendship, right??? Whilst our hearts are saying yes to every new restaurant, Saturday night gig, or weekend away that someone sent into the Whatsapp group, our brains are frantically subtracting what another night out might set us back with just one week left until our next paycheque.
On today's episode we chat with Gyan Yankovich, author of Just Friends, about the cost of friendship. We discuss the changing dynamics amongst friends in your late 20s and early 30s, as money priorities can shift depending on whether you're saving for kids or stockpiling for your next holiday. We talk about the financial cost of making new friends, when the emotional cost is already high of hanging out with people you don't know that well. And we discuss why having conversations about money with your friends can be such a valuable and important thing to do.
But the conversation doesn't end here... We want your thoughts!

Is it more expensive to be single than in a relationship? That's the question we're unpacking on today's episode... Whether it's as boring as the household bills or as exciting as nights out and holidays with friends - the sad reality is that all of these things cost more if you're single.
On today's episode we chat with Hannah Ferguson, Founder and CEO of Cheek Media about how the singles tax has impacted each of our lives, the ways in which society rewards "coupling up", and the things that partnered people can think about when it comes to best supporting their single friends.

How much does it actually cost to have a baby? On today's episode Rachel Maksimovic, solo mum and co-host of her own podcast Mothering on my Own shares how much it has cost her.
As we enter our late 20s, we have started to feel a societal pressure to consider whether or not we want to have kids. With more people getting married and moving onto the "next step" of starting a family, we always thought that having a baby was the norm. But the more conversations we have, the more we realise that having a baby is a financial luxury (in fact, more than 50% of Australians have reported this).
Five years on from having her son Lenny, Rach shares with us how she's navigated the financial challenges that have arisen with solo parenting, and how she's been able to lean on her community to save money and support others, all by having more open and honest conversations.
But the conversation doesn't end here... Parents, we want your thoughts!

Today's episode has the perfect representation of what a dinner table conversation with our friends would look like when discussing money. So luckily, we are joined by the dinner club queen herself, Sophie McIntyre, founder of Club Sup. Through the three courses of this episode, we share our money stories, and discuss whether the concept of "treating yourself" is problematic. We delve into navigating money with housemates and friends, and what is and isn't appropriate to add to Splitwise. And finally for dessert, we chat about being a founder and how to think about paying yourself, whilst also keeping a business afloat.
But the conversation doesn't end here... we want your thoughts!
Do you think the concept of 'treating yourself' is problematic? How do the Splitwise politics work in your household?Have you experienced issues in a friendship because of money? Tell us your stories...Have you had to navigate paying yourself a salary as a founder? How did you decide what to pay yourself?
Send your thoughts to these questions, or anything else from our chat to [email protected] for our brand new newsletter. And don't forget to subscribe whilst you're at it!
