  • Sleek, sensual bass science from the NYC SLINK boss, sketching a new blueprint for dub in the 2020s.

Kenzo Perron, AKA K Wata, uses bass the way a poet uses punctuation. Sub weight, subtle wobbles and snaking rhythms become commas, dashes and periods—tiny gestures that shape movement, tension and release.

Perron's sound sits somewhere between the cavernous minimalism of Rhythm & Sound and the wiry precision of Livity Sound, pulling equally from sound system culture, contemporary minimalism and East Coast club music. His breakthrough 2021 EP, What Do U Wan, sounds like the photo negatives of a Fade to Mind record redesigned for sunrise at Sustain-Release (not to mention his work with Daytimers affiliate Enayet as E-Wata).

More broadly, Perron belongs to a a growing American underground reshaping dub techno and bass music in adventurous ways. What sets his music apart, however, is the way it balances delicacy with kineticism and, as his RA Mix makes clear, a touch of sexiness and intimacy too. RA.1039 draws from that very sonic palette.

RA.1039 is mainly composed of contemporary dub tracks released in the past decade (with a few choice exceptions). One minute we're wigging out to the krautrock-meets-Black Ark Studio of Eiger Drums Propaganda, the next we're slinking to the hi-fi club of Significant Other. In Perron's hand they melt into a molten liquid of sexy, sleek, bass science.

  • Protean and boundary-pushing, Mor Elian’s body of work proves frisky and unpindownable by nature. Tapping into the widest array of influences, from abstract techno groovers to jacking house reliefs, via acid-dripping bass and fiery polyrhythms, the Fever AM co-founder enters the melee with a two-hour sonic cruise sweeping incendiary club material and more introspective moments, seamlessly rolled into a gravity-defying floor narrative. Her sense of construction and maneuvering, deftly shifting gears between full-fledged DJ-friendly use and more exploratory detours, reveals in all its unapologetically vibrant and shape-shifting glory in the present mix, vouching for Mor Elian’s pristine groove control and art of traction. Explosive.

  • Hailing from Guadalajara, Mexico, Andy Martin summons his ancestor’s voices through minutely crafted blends of future-facing electronics that keep on questioning the boundaries between continuity and rupture, between pragmatic physicality and spiritual escapism. Using his platform Diaspora Echoes as the launchpad to sustained sonic innovation release after release, Martin has been shaping up a body of work defined by precision and eclecticism, tapping into Mexico’s rich cultural background and history to build his own cutting-edge musical grammar. Cinematic and deep, his mixes and productions carry that psychoactive, cross-dimensional essence which makes every listen a trip of its own.

  • Pianeti Sintetici, the alias of Italian producer Davide Perrone (also known as one half of the duo Primal Code), kicks off his set whisper-quiet and spacey, like echoes in the mountains far away. The soundscape is vast, and he slowly introduces curious, organic whooshes and creature-like noises, melodies that feel like they could be from another planet.

It’s all done live, spontaneous and reactive to the crowd’s energy. The skilled artist creates a journey into a sci-fi dreamworld, an emotional sound bath that makes us forget time. Which is perfect.

Pianeti Sintetici enters Varden at 1PM on Sunday, on the fourth and final day of the festival. The weather is cloudy but still warm, a nice Norwegian summer day. At this point we want to lift people, gently, and give everyone time to find their mind, body and feet. And get moving again.

When he has everyone's attention, the Italian introduces a little more color with multiple drum patterns, creating a comforting and uplifting danceable energy.

  • Entirely unreleased, undeniably funky techno.Charles Accarisi, AKA Chlär, treats techno like a science. From his earliest days as an audio engineer, the Lisbon-via-Switzerland artist has approached techno with the precision of a seasoned experimentalist, dissecting our love of listening to kick drums in dark, sweaty clubs down to its very bones. Before launching his label, Primal Instinct, in 2023, he dug deep, building its foundation on neuroscience studies exploring syncopation and bass frequencies. Yet, for all its academic rigor, Accarisi's music remains incredibly funky. You can hear this endless pursuit of groove in his DJ sets. His productions flit across the techno continuum with similar versatility. One minute, as half of Funk Assault, he's flipping a Beastie Boys vocal into a 140-BPM weapon; the next, he aims straight for the head, trading peak-time bacchanalia for the haunted hypnotism of the afterhours.RA 1041 is all of this and more. Composed entirely of unreleased tracks, it delivers 70 minutes of heads-down techno in its purest form. It's heavy and dark, for sure, but undeniably swung, seamlessly bridging dub techno and sweat-inducing hardgroove throwbacks. This is contemporary techno synthesized by a master chemist.Read the Q&A at ra.co/podcast/1060 @chlaer@primalinstinctrecords

Expect rugged hails and fierce winds as SAMA takes over the waves and wreaks absolute havoc throughout this wild, wild ride.

  • This week, Pfirter welcomes East-Berlin native MASCHA to the airwaves. With over a decade of immersion in the underground circuits of both Berlin and Mexico City, MASCHA has cultivated a sound defined by surgical precision and hypnotic intensity.
Her style bridges the raw, industrial grit of her hometown with the soulful, driving lineage of 90s Detroit techno. Recently, she made waves by expanding the genre's boundaries through a live collaboration with the National Orchestra of Guatemala, proving her ability to command both the sweat-soaked dancefloor and the grand concert hall.
For this 70-minute journey, MASCHA delivers a masterclass in tension and release. Featuring heavyweights like Oscar Mulero, Planetary Assault Systems, and Rødhåd, the mix is a tightly structured descent into the deep, rhythmic techno that defines the MindTrip aesthetic.

  • Curaçao-born sound curator Rozaly both ignites and unites the dance floor. The sounds he plays are designed to blow open preconceptions about Caribbean music and tap into a more collective sense of memory. The distillation of his musical heritage through a new contemporary lens has made him a favourite at our festivals, which is why he will join us again in Amsterdam and Croatia this summer.

But first, his mix, which he describes as "a dream through the night of the Caribbean" that starts in the evening and takes you through to early morning and touches on niche styles like zess, chutney and soca, to Rabòday, Bouyon and Carnival Ganza. The selection is marbled with his own forthcoming field recordings, demos by friends and never-released tunes from overlooked cultural pillars. "A micro patchwork of the complexity of our identities in sound, aiming to fuel a forever-growing organism of pride. Caribbean pride."

  • A staple component of Marcel Dettmann’s MDR imprint and Berghain’s Ostgut Ton, German legend Norman Nodge clocks in this week with a killer two-hour deluge of Indus-oriented barrage fire. Known for his laser-precise mixing and lethal selections, Nodge cuts a path of absolute dance floor devastation, pushing back the boundaries of techno as we know it through streams of gravity-defying rhythmic assault and leftfield-informed abstraction. The result is a torrential outpour of powerhouse machine funk, no-surrender techno brutalism and fiery analogue thunder. Dive into an orgiastic smorgasbord of ruthless uptempo churn, surgical technique and immersive cerebrality. Sleek, propulsive ride all the way, y’all aren’t ready for this one. Enjoy!
