Nouman Ali Khan delves into the topic of the Musrifeen - the people who go into excess.
The word Israaf means to go what is beyond necessary. Israaf brings a lot of negative consequences into one’s life. Allah does not love those who indulge in Israaf. The following Ayah from the Qur'an delves into the aspect of Israaf:
“And when affliction touches man, he calls upon Us, whether lying on his side or sitting or standing; but when We remove from him his affliction, he continues [in disobedience] as if he had never called upon Us to [remove] an affliction that touched him. Thus is made pleasing to the transgressors that which they have been doing.”
[Surah Yunus, verse 12]
"Our Lord, forgive us our sins and the excess [committed] in our affairs and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people."
[Surah Ale Imran, verse 147]
When we fall into stressful times, we need to contemplate on what we were neglecting and what we were doing in excess. This is the principal part of our Deen. We need to bring deep reflections into our lives on our problems with Israaf and constantly strive to live in the middle path.

Every difficulty we go through comes WITH ease. In fact the manner in which the language of the Quran phrases it the ease is a certainty. And Allah's design is that with difficulty comes ease. But you cannot sit and wait for the ease.
Take time during your busy day to turn on this khutbah while you're driving or are caught in a jam and expand your knowledge of this verse of the Quran wherein our Lord promises times of ease with every trouble.
And when you find yourself free exhaust yourself of your responsibility. The believer will busy himself with something constantly. Learn to fight through difficulties find the strength to overcome our trials and be of use to others. -
Nouman Ali Khan delves into the meaning of the following Ayah from the Qur'an:
“And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided. And remember the favor of Allah upon you - when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and you became, by His favor, brothers. And you were on the edge of a pit of the Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses that you may be guided.”
Surah Ale Imran, verse 103
Our attention and focus deviate from being Muslims first to fragmenting ourselves into groups and sects. Do not be obsessed with criticizing other groups for their choice of thought regarding the Shariah, but instead focus on being obedient to Allah, earning His Happiness and being good and respectful to humanity. Otherwise, we will be heading for a Fitnah of sorts and do not make this fragmentation a point of contention amongst each other.
