In a nation nearly evenly split between conservatives and liberals, the left dominates nearly all major institutions, including universities, the government, and corporate America. Hanania argues that this is as much a legal requirement as it is an issue of one side triumphing in the marketplace of ideas. Culture has its own independent force, but the state has, since the 1960s, been putting its thumb on the scale. In the conversation, we dive into the roots of the concept of "wokeness" and its deep-seated origins in American society, dating back to government mandates and regulations from the late 1960s and early 1970s.
This discussion challenges the common perception that wokeness is a recent phenomenon, shedding light on its historical underpinnings and how it has influenced institutions and corporations. With American-style racial identity politics taking root in the UK, the book also argues that many liberal-leftists are disregarding the attachments to the traditional triad of faith, family and flag in historically Labour-voting, ethnic-minority communities. Dr. Ehsan discussed the ideas underpinning his book, including his personal experience growing up in Luton and the Left's lack of representation for traditionalist views of ethnic minority families.

She previously served as a manager in operations at Depository Trust Company in New York and the Pacific Clearing Corporation in San Francisco; she started her career in financial services operations at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.
