We symbolize hope. We are fireflies finding glimmers of light from within even in moments of darkness. My name is Julie Rocco, and my purpose is to offer hope, healing, and happiness to individuals struggling with thoughts of suicide. In the depths of my own attempted suicide, I could not manifest thoughts of hope for a better, brighter future. The enduring pain and suffering eclipsed any glimmer of light, love, and life beyond the shadows of my pain. Hope was snuffed and suicide became my only option. I, like many others, am one of the fortunate who survived. This podcast will share "Rays of Light" illuminating What I Would Have Missed moments from individual submissions. We will also have more in-depth conversations with survivors of an attempted suicide and those who struggle with thoughts of suicide and ask them to reflect on their journey from suicide to living a life that considers and celebrates "What I Would Have Missed." The podcast will also feature family, friends, and colleagues of the guest as well as professionals in the fields of health and wellness. Listen anywhere you get your podcasts, and please rate and review the podcast and share it with others, if you enjoy it. This is a weekly show full of untold nursing stories that are sometimes hilarious, macabre, insane or anything in between. This is show is brought to you, by me Nicole, your fellow ICU nurse and by your colleagues.
In this height of the Covid 19 pandemic, the most stressful time any nurse has lived through, it is important to offer an outlet and a space for us. It is time to offer a mental vacation so you can laugh or cry or laugh cry... whatever suits you. This is geared for medical professionals and so there will be a lot of medical jargon but for the tourists who jump on board, we’ll try to use laymans terms at times but we will not always get this right.
Oh and we nurses swear like sailors so this is not kid safe either.
I hope you enjoy the show and honestly, this is supposed to be pure entertainment. You know everyone loves a good nursing story, so buckle up and I hope you can get a good belly laugh!

At least 20% of New Zealanders are believed to be neurodivergent, but there is very little awareness, understanding and support for people with conditions such as ADHD, Autism and Dyslexia.
Sonia Gray has a neurodivergent daughter and is an ADHDer herself. In this 10-part series she’ll talk to dozens of experts and people with a lived-experience of neurodiversity to better understand how we can support and celebrate those whose brains are wired differently.
No Such Thing as Normal is brought to you by NZ Herald and Team Uniform, with support from NZ on Air and launches June 10th. New episodes are available every Saturday.
