  • Today I talk to Catherine Hobson about allergies, something which impact over 5 million people in the UK. Catherine chats to me about her personal experience if living with life-threatening allergies and her current work to improve the food industry's focus on all considerations around making the world a safer place for those with food allergies.

Catherine has lived with life-threatening allergies since birth and now has found a way to support the 1% of adults in the UK with allergies. Catherine has founded ActAllergy with her partner Carl Smith. The first exciting product was Catherine's book 'Take Away the Fear. A guide to living with life-threatening allergies' which became an Amazon Best Seller in March this year. Her book, public speaking and health coaching allows her to share her experiences, top tips and empathy with others navigating the world with food allergies. Catherine and Carl together work with the food industry to improve the diner experience and reduce the fear of eating out. Follow them on Facebook to see what they get up to in their world of living with allergies. @ActAllergy or go to www.ActAllergy.co.uk

  • Today's Mindful Meets with the effervescent Julie Mann. Julie has been working as an actor in theatre, improvisation and role play workshops for over 40 years but that's not really why I invited her onto the podcast....

As a younger actor, when her daughter came along she wanted to work nearer home. Julie knew it was smart to have several sources of revenue, Julie trained as a Hypnotherapist, Life Coach and EFT Practitioner and worked with clients from home too and became known as the Habit Fixer.

In our animated discussion we talk about personal awareness, change, understanding and self-compassion. It might encourage you to take a different look at your own life.

Julie loves helping people to regain their mojo and age well by showing them how they can change their habits; mind, body and skin. When you change your habits, you change your life!

Julie is also an Arbonne representative. A friend introduced her to Arbonne (a company now over 44 years old) in the social marketing industry. Although she knew nothing about health & wellness, or the industry, after doing her research it seemed like a ‘no brainer’. After all, she was already washing, using make up and taking nutrition, so she thought she might as well switch her brand to Arbonne, buy from herself and share that concept with others, who were looking for a ‘vehicle’ to realise their dreams too. Find out more here: Healthy Living - Habit Fixer

  • Today I am joined by weight loss surgeon Simon Monkhouse. In our fascinating conversation Simon helps us navigate the different weight loss surgical options, as well as emphasising the importance of an holistic approach to a successful outcome for bariatric patients. One area of which is mindful eating.

We discuss the complex nature of obesity, the damage done by dieting to our natural weight set point and metabolism, and how surgery interrupts and resets the body to help people suffering with obesity reconnect with their hormones to eat more normally and lose weight.

It's a really enlightening conversation which may answer several questions you have about this huge topic. As Simon says, we'd need 24 hours to talk about it properly!

Today she talks about productivity and dispels a few myths about how we need to think about it to really make it work for us.

Described by her clients as a soothing balm and a magician, Louise’s experience of work-related stress and anxiety led her to develop a slower, more mindful approach to productivity, which she uses to help her clients get the important things done.

  • It was amazing to get Dana on the podcast to share her wisdom and expertise with you.

Dana is a leading mental health and wellness expert, specialising in the gut brain axis. Dana believes that normalising poor mental health is not the correct objective because it is not normal! It’s the body’s way of telling us that something isn’t working as it should. She aims to inspire, motivate, and empower people with knowledge on how their bodies work and what we can do to support our bodies to work at their best.

When we understand the role that stress, genetics, poor nutrition and our lifestyles impact our mental health, and how we can make small, effective and achievable changes in each of these areas, then we can start to believe that poor mental health and poor resilience can be overcome.

Before embarking on her Nutrition career Dana had a successful corporate career working as a consultant for PwC. During this career she saw the far-reaching impacts of stress and poor food choices on performance and health of those around her. Finally following her passion Dana started studying a BSc in Nutrition Science and completed her dissertation on the link between stress, gut health and mental health.

Today Dana works with individuals and companies throughout the UK running programmes and courses for reactive and preventative responses to stress and the impact on the gut. Dana has been featured in many publications, regularly speaks on podcasts and at conferences, notably at Food Matters Live this year.

You'll want to learn more about her cooking and fall in love with food again - so many of us with a diet history have lost that, haven't we?

Sasi Krishnan is originally from Chennai, India, and now lives with her family in Thatcham, Berkshire. Her Business is called “Sasi Samyal” – “Samyal “means in the south Indian language of Tamil means “Cooking”.

She brings a strong passion for mindful cooking to others with Indian Cookery classes and healthy alternative recipes, utilising local ingredients as well as traditional spices.

She also shares brilliant, tasty healthy dishes, knowledge, and tips to prepare and enjoy traditional dishes, many made using fresh local produce.

She believes cooking is for all and a skill that everyone should. She currently teaches at Honesty Cookery school and at Brockhurst and Marlston Preparatory School. She loves working with children.

“My passion is cooking delicious and healthy food. Traditional recipes give me a basis from which to explore local ingredients and inspire healthy eating. • We chat with Elle Mace this month. It was difficult to come up with a title for this one because we talk about SO much! Elle talks about her history with restriction, bingeing and bulimia but not just that, also she shares how she came to understand why it was happening and what aspects of her life had contributed to her eating behaviour.

Elle has lived it and experienced it. She has the experience of living with body dysmorphia and disordered eating which has driven her to be passionate to support anyone suffering with their relationship to food, their body, themselves and others.

Elle Mace is a master practitioner in eating disorders, obesity and nutrition. She works with clients on a 121, group and online basis as well as running retreats and her own podcast. Her chat with me talks about how she overcame her issues and what she thinks it important to heal others. We chat about how to raise children without eating issues and the damage of dieting.

We share our coaching common ground and some tips about how you can start to recover from disordered eating.

It's an honest (and fun) conversation!

  • Today I talk to a very interesting guest. An interesting life and an interesting take on health and well-being. It's well worth a listen.

Vicky Midwood - AKA: The Addictions Eliminator & Health Creator is an integrative health, nutrition and lifestyle coach who has been in the fitness and wellness world for over 32 years. She is an author, podcaster (Raw Chatter) and creator of the B.L.A.S.T method to fabulous freedom.

Vicky started out as a fitness and fat loss instructor in 1991 as a way to justify and hide her bulimia, food, alcohol and exercise obsession - she shares her experiences with us on the podcast. On the outside she aimed to inspire, be a role model of fitness, strength and control, yet on the inside she was a full of guilt and shame and exhausted from hiding her real behaviour around food and alcohol.

Driven by her own rehabilitation experiences, Vicky has a passion for helping others to reconnect to themselves as a whole, to re-imagine life free from the daily obsession and compulsion to use food and/or alcohol to reward, numb-out, soothe and cope with feelings and the daily routine.

She states that her mission is to help you understand YOU in a way you never have before, and to embrace ALL that you are, instead of you feeling you have to be MORE than you are.

  • What we wear can contribute so much to how we feel about ourselves. In this Mindful Meets conversation I speak to the delightful Kerrie Ellis.

Kerrie has 17+ years experience as an advanced Stylist and Corporate Image Consultant.
