This podcast features several different Honors classes work. Anything from poems to full feature audio stories.
In the fall of 2023, our Writing for the Real World course (HON 315) researched topics related to climate change and the Blue Economy. As part of their research, students interviewed scientists, community activists, and waterfront workers to help tell the story of how climate change is affecting Maine. With their research and personal stories, students wrote, recorded, and produced documentary-style podcasts at WMPG.
In Fall 2023- After exploring Chimamanda Adichie's Ted Talk, "The Danger of a Single Story," Honors students in Amy Amoroso's College Writing course worked on writing personal narratives connected to stigma, marginalization, and single stories. Each student chose one sentence from their narrative and worked as a group to write a collective collage poem that included each student's voice. In addition to the collage poem, students created a visual to represent their story. The products are a visual and audio collage to remind us of the power of many stories.
In Spring 2023 The course Writing for the Real World researched a topic connected to climate change and interviewed experts at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute to write, record, and produce documentary-style podcasts at WMPG. Climate courage, policy changes, lobstering in Maine, and the Blue Economy are some of the topics covered in these creative and personal student podcasts. -

In the Shed with Trev brings farmers and industry together to work through the big calls shaping modern farming. Across New Zealand, there’s a bit of a shift happening. Not so much in what’s being done, but in how early decisions are being made and acted on. As things get more complex, the farms getting ahead tend to be the ones picking things up earlier and responding sooner.
Hosted by rural journalist Sheryl Haitana, this series steps inside real farm businesses and the wider sector, from farmers and operations managers through to banks, processors, and consultants.
Across each episode, we unpack what’s working, what’s shifting, and how stronger systems create the clarity to back the right calls at the right time. Because the difference on farm isn’t just what decisions get made, it’s when they get made. -

John Stuart Mills Utilitarianism stands as a cornerstone in the realm of ethical philosophy, offering a compelling defense of utilitarianism. Originally published as a series of three articles in Frasers Magazine in 1861, these writings were later compiled into a single book in 1863. Over his lifetime, Mill revised and released the work through four editions, each adding nuanced insights. While Mill touches on utilitarian principles in other notable works like On Liberty and The Subjection of Women, Utilitarianism is where he delivers his most comprehensive exploration of the foundational aspects of utilitarian ethical theory.
